SANTISSIMA TRINITÀ
IL mistero della Trinità sconvolge il modo di pensare umano e religioso. Da quando si mise in dubbio la divinità del Figlio e
dello Spirito Santo rispetto al Padre, la Chiesa si
è imp egnata a difendere, proclamare e adorare “la
Trinità delle persone, l’unità della natura,
l’uguaglianza nella maestà divina” (Prefazio).
Questa dichiarazione è proclamata nella liturgia
almeno dall’VIII secolo, ma fu elaborata ancor
prima grazie ai concili dell’antichità.

TRINITY SUNDAY
WHILE THE MYSTERY of God is beyond our comprehension, today’s readings offer a tangible connection to God’s great
wisdom. We begin with a front row seat at the creation of the universe: God, with Wisdom at his side, delighting in the work
of all creation. With humble awe, we receive glory and honour beyond our understanding.
On one level, we know many things. We know we are created in the image and likeness of God, the Creator. We know God’s
very being walked on this earth, in the person of his son, Jesus Christ. We know that when Jesus returned home to the
Father, he sent his Spirit to teach and guide us.
On another level, we cannot comprehend the “Why?” of it all. Wisely, we turn to a question we can answer: “How?”
Whenever we delight in creation, we are in harmony with our Creator. We honour the Redeemer by living with faith, hope
and love. Quietly attentive, we hear in our hearts the whispered wisdom of the Sanctifier.
Each time we bless ourselves with the Sign of the Cross, we are acknowledging the mystery of the threefold presence.
Refreshing ourselves in Word and Sacrament, we receive the grace to live holy and sacred lives. Rejoicing, we share in God’s

REFLECTIONS for the Year of Mercy –
May 22, 2016 – Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
The word mercy, Pope Francis
declared in his announcement of the
Jubilee Year of Mercy, “reveals the
very mystery of the Most Holy
Trinity” (Misericordiae Vultus, 2). For
mercy is how God comes to meet us;
mercy is the fundamental law helping
us recognize everyone as brothers and
sisters; mercy is the bridge connecting God and
humanity, opening our hearts to the hope of being
loved forever despite our sinfulness. God’s selfrevelation as a life-giving, love-sharing Trinity of
Persons draws us closer to God in friendship and
communion. Both Judaism and Islam consider
mercy one of God’s most important attributes. Israel
unceasingly proclaims God boundless in mercy.
Islam addresses the Creator as “Merciful and Kind,”
believing divine mercy limitless, its doors always
open. May this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis
prays, open us to more fervent dialogue, deepen our
mutual understanding, eliminate all closed-minded
disrespect, and drive out every form of violence and
discrimination.

Year of Mercy Talk No. 3

Come and spend an evening with
Archbishop Richard Smith on May 31, 2016
(Tuesday) at the church, and listen to him
speak on the Year of Mercy.
Mass will be at 6:30 p.m. then starting at
7:00 he will lead us in our study and
reflection. Everyone is invited.
This is the third part of the continuing special
reflections and studies about the Year of Mercy
that we started last January 21. Fr. Stefano
Penna was our resource speaker in the previous
two sessions. Join us as we reflect together with
the Archbishop on God’s mercy and how we are
called to live it out through the corporal and
spiritual works of mercy. What better way to
fully experience and live out the Extraordinary
Jubilee Year of Mercy than by taking part in this
adult faith formation series? So let us all come
and participate in this very important activity of
our Parish. Coffee will follow at the Hall.
Also, as we know, the Archbishop has recently
concluded the series of five (5) sessions of
“Every Life Matters” held in different parishes
of the archdiocese. We look forward to
Archbishop Smith sharing with us his insights
and thoughts on what had happened during
these sessions and their profound significance
and impact on our lives primarily as Catholic
faithful.

It is time once again to plan for the FEAST
DAY celebration of our patron saint, Santa
Maria Goretti.
This year’s celebration will take place on
Sunday, July 3, 2016.
A lot of planning, time and volunteers are
required in order to prepare for and make this
celebration a success. We invite and encourage
you to attend our 3rd planning meeting on
Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in the
SMG community hall. We need your ideas
and inspirations, please. With your help, we
are sure that this year’s celebration will be
another fun, successful and spiritual day for
everyone.

Your Knights wish all our Parishioners a wonderful Victoria
Day long weekend! This long weekend signals the start of
the four best months of the year, weather-wise. Camping,
barbecues, holidays, school break and many outdoor
activities. Please include attending church as one of your
outdoor activities. You do, after all, have to go outdoors to
get to church, eh? And, isn't it a wonderful feeling to walk
out of church with a smile, a hello to friends and be
greeted with sunshine outside?
Santa Maria Goretti Chapter
Next week is the fifth Sunday of May. Your Knights will
have our Fifth Sunday Rosary Program. A half hour before
11:30 mass, we invite all Parishioners to join us as we pray
the rosary. This is a solemn spiritual activity to promote
devotion to our Mother Mary. Let us experience faith and
fellowship in a short devotional. We are most pleased to
be a part of this Knights program.
If you have any questions about what your Knights are all
about, please join us next Sunday and ask one of us. We'd

Meeting on May 29 at 3:00 p.m. at the
Center Hall (Basement) of the Center.

Your Centre has been undergoing some overdue touchups in the last few weeks. Among them, ceiling tiles have
been replaced (with help from some of our very own
Parishioners-thank you!) and our precious hardwood
floor has been refinished. Expensive little projects, but
necessary. Our building requires constant attention as,
like many of us have noticed as we've aged, it too is
getting older. Even buildings get a touch of the
rheumatism...
Our menu for this Sunday Pranzo: Antipasto, Arancini,
Penne with Ceci and Roasted Tomato Sauce, Insalata,
Roasted Flank Steak, Roasted Red Potato, Mixed
Vegetables, Panacotta with Berries, Coffee and Tea.
Also, a reminder about our Lobster Night on June 24.
We are serving Whole Lobster, Alberta Roast Striploin
