L’EUCARISTIA È IL CUORE DELLA VITA DELLA CHIESA
SANTISSIMO CORPO E SANGUE DI CRISTO
QUALE grande mistero avvolge il Corpo e Sangue di Cristo che ci sono donati nell’Eucaristia? È più forte del semplice
ricordo di Cristo... È mistero della presenza del
Signore. Esso affonda le sue radici nell’ultima
cena ed è dono che la Chiesa primitiva raccolse e
ha fatto giungere fino a noi (II Lettura). I Padri
della Chiesa vedono in Melchìsedek la
prefigurazione del Cristo (I Lettura), il salmo
profetizza, nel re di Salem, il sacerdozio di Cristo
stesso. La moltiplicazione dei pani e dei pesci è
l’anticipazione del cibo che dona la vita eterna
(Vangelo).
In questo gioco tra memoria e profezia, la Parola
di Dio oggi ci offre un ingresso privilegiato. Il
Preziosissimo Sangue, ci invita a fare memoria
che tra noi e Dio è stata fatta una nuova alleanza
fondata nel suo sangue. Il suo Corpo che è per
noi, ci sprona a muoverci affinché i poveri siano
soccorsi. Come i bambini accettano di buon grado
il cibo quando si sentono avvolti dall’amore dei
genitori, così noi, in Cristo presente
nell’Eucaristia, accogliamo il “pane degli angeli,

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)
TODAY WE JOIN the crowds following Jesus. Our hearts are afire with anticipation and joy as he speaks about the kingdom
of God. To hear his voice, to walk in his presence, to see him healing the sick with gentleness and compassion, touches our
hearts with wonder.
Jesus receives the people and speaks to them about the kingdom of God, and he heals those who need to be cured. Above
all, he feeds them, the five thousand, “with five loaves and two fish” and when the leftovers are gathered up, they fill twelve
baskets. This miracle foreshadows God’s great love for us and his abundance through the Eucharist.
Come to the feast with trust and hope and belief that God will always provide, and that God is present in the celebration of
the Eucharist. It is here that we are fed with the body and blood of Christ and are satisfied. It is here that we come for
forgiveness and it is here that we are nourished by God’s everlasting love.
Today’s readings centre on God’s presence and intervention in the lives of people down through the ages. God continues to
be with us today in and through the gift of the Eucharist. Our response is one of praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God for

The next Baptism Preparation Course will be on
Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 7 PM in the basement of the
Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre. Both parents and

REFLECTIONS for the Year of Mercy –
May 29, 2016 – Solemnity of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy,
the Lectionary’s Year of Luke
presents a Gospel in which
Jesus, who has welcomed,
taught, healed, and shown God’s
mercy to the multitude, refuses
the Twelve’s demand to dismiss
the crowd before him. Instead, he says,
“Give them some food yourselves” (Luke
9:13). In Jesus’ hands, what little the Twelve
has feeds five thousand (“men,” and
probably as many women and children),
leaving twelve baskets so the Twelve can
continue Jesus’ ministry of mercy. Pope
Francis has asked how we celebrate and live
the Eucharist. Do we keep it to ourselves?
Or do we “commune” not only with Jesus
but with the multitude whom Jesus has given
us to cherish? Entrusted to Jesus and shared
with others, our limited resources can go a
long way. Recognizing Jesus in the
Eucharist demands that we recognize Jesus
also in the hungry crowd. Adoring Jesus
present in the Eucharist requires that we
serve Jesus present in our neighbour.

YEAR OF MERCY
Talk No. 3

Come and spend an evening with
Archbishop Richard Smith on May 31, 2016
(Tuesday) at the church, and listen to him
speak on the Year of Mercy.
Mass will be at 6:30 p.m. then starting at
7:00 he will lead us in our study and
reflection. Everyone is invited.
This is the third part of the continuing special
reflections and studies about the Year of Mercy
that we started last January 21. Fr. Stefano
Penna was our resource speaker in the previous
two sessions. Join us as we reflect together with
the Archbishop on God’s mercy and how we are
called to live it out through the corporal and
spiritual works of mercy. What better way to
fully experience and live out the Extraordinary
Jubilee Year of Mercy than by taking part in this
adult faith formation series? So let us all come
and participate in this very important activity of
our Parish. Coffee will follow at the Hall.
Also, as we know, the Archbishop has recently
concluded the series of five (5) sessions of
“Every Life Matters” held in different parishes
of the archdiocese. We look forward to
Archbishop Smith sharing with us his insights
and thoughts on what had happened during
these sessions and their profound significance
and impact on our lives primarily as Catholic
faithful.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Santa Maria Goretti Chapter
This week is the fifth Sunday of May. Your Knights will
have our Fifth Sunday Rosary Program. A half hour
before every fifth Sunday 10 AM mass, we invite all
Parishioners to join us as we pray the rosary. This is a
solemn spiritual activity to promote devotion to our
Mother Mary. Let us experience faith and fellowship in
a short devotional. We are most pleased to be a part of
this Knights program.
Your Knights recently attended a funeral prayer service,
presided by Father George at our parish. He said
something so incredibly simple yet powerful. "A family
that prays together, stays together." We the Parishioners
are a family. And the more we come together in prayer
at Mass, the stronger we become. Let us pray together at
Mass!
