Present perfect or present perfect continuous?
Present perfect o present perfect continuous?
In general, the present perfect simple is used
when the action or situation we are describing is
seen as one that has finished very recently or
at some unspecified past time.
We use the present perfect continuous when
the action is seen either as unfinished and still
happening or when a situation is seen as temporary.
When we see an action as a finished one, we
use the present perfect simple.
- "I've written to Mary"
When we see an action as unfinished or still happening, we use the present perfect continuous.
- "I've been writing to Mary"
In generale, il present perfect simple viene usato quando l'azione che si descrive è percepita come se fosse finita recentemente o come se facesse riferimento a qualche momento non precisato nel passato.
Si usa il present perfect continuous quando l'azione è
percepita incompleta e ancora in corso o come temporanea.
Quando un'azione è percepita come conclusa, si usa il
present perfect simple.
- “Ho scritto a Mary”
Quando un'azione è percepita come incompleta o ancora in corso, si usa il present perfect continuous.
- “Ho scritto/stavo scrivendo a Mary”
The present perfect simple is used when we
are interested in result:
- "Tim's learnt to read"
The present perfect continuous is used when
we are interested in process or activity.
- "Tim's been learning to read"
Il present perfect simple viene usato quando si è interessati al risultato:
- “Tim ha imparato a leggere”
Il present perfect continuous è utilizzato quando si è
interessati al processo in corso o all'attività in sé.
- “Tim ha imparato a leggere”
The present perfect simple is used for single actions.
Il present perfect simple viene usato per un'azione
sola.
- "I've cut myself"
- “Mi sono tagliato”
When there is little difference in meaning between the present perfect simple and the present perfect continuous, we normally use the
continuous form:
Quando esiste una piccola differenza di significato tra il
present perfect simple e quello continuous, normalmente si usa quest'ultimo:
- "I've been playing tennis for years"
The time expressions used with the present
perfect generally refer to indefinite time.
When you use expressions which indicate specifically when something happened, you need
to use the past tense.
- “Ho giocato a tennis per anni”
Le espressioni di tempo utilizzate con il present perfect si riferiscono, generalmente, a un momento indefinito. Quando si impiegano espressioni che indicano specificamente il momento in cui qualcosa è accaduto,
bisogna usare il past tense.
