finlandesi ha messo a punto

festeggiare il suo primo centenario lanciandosi con il
paracadute da un aereo. Non soddisfatta, la supernonna dopo aver soffiato le molte candeline ha espresso il
desiderio di fare un tuffo tra gli squali bianchi: «Questi
poveri vecchi squali se la stanno passando male», ha dichiarato al termine della gita, «Per via della pesca non
c’è più pesce qui, e sono costretti a cercare i bagnanti
verso le spiagge».

A great-great-grandmother who has little to envy from
the various Bear Gryll. Georgina Harwood has seen fit to
celebrate her first 100 years by jumping with a parachute from
an airplane. Not satisfied with this, the Super Gran expressed
her desire to take a swim with white sharks moments after
blowing out the candles: «Those poor old sharks are not having
a good time», she declared at the end of her swim, «Because of
fishing there is no more fish here, and they are forced to move
in on swimmers on the beaches».

ederlo volare è un piccolo incanto: ha zampe rosa,
becco rosso, piume candide, a eccezione delle
punte delle ali che sono nere. L’ibis bianco è un
uccello dall’aspetto elegante e adora vivere vicino al
mare, dove la natura è ancora intatta. A Cuba, l’ibis è
chiamato Coco. Ecco perché quest’isola meravigliosa,
in mezzo all’arcipelago Jardines del Rey, è stata battezzata Cayo Coco: è il rifugio tranquillo degli ibis,
un piccolo paradiso che l’uomo ha saputo rispettare,
e, anzi, rendere perfino più godibile. Ma non è l'ibis
il solo regnante su questo trono. Una strada rialzata,
lunga 27 chilometri, consente di arrivare a Cayo Coco
in macchina da San Rafael tagliando la Bahia de Perros: è qui che vive la più grande colonia di fenicotteri
dei Caraibi, un incredibile spettacolo naturale famoso in tutto il mondo. Al tramonto, quando volano bassi sulla sabbia, regalano un’indimenticabile emozione.
Con molta lungimiranza, tutta questa zona è sotto rigorosa tutela naturalistica e le numerose isole, Cayo
Coco, Cayo Guillermo e Cayo Sabinal sono le più
grandi, compongono l’ecosistema del Parque Nacio-

nal el Bagà, un ambizioso progetto nel quale si è riusciti
a far coesistere, con ottimi risultati, salvaguardia ambientale e sviluppo turistico. Un modello, un esempio
da seguire.
Con autentiche isole gioiello, spiagge candide come
neve, Jardines del Rey è un arcipelago incantato che
fino alla fine del 1800 era soltanto un’intricata palude
di mangrovie infestata da zanzare. Poi, verso gli anni
Trenta del Novecento, una piccola comunità, meno di
mille persone, venne qui a estrarre carbone: un’attività
che però non fece arricchire nessuno. Finché si scoprirono le straordinarie potenzialità delle isole e il governo
cubano di Fidel Castro decise di puntare con convinzione sul turismo.
Panorami fantastici che colpirono anche l’Ernest più
famoso e apprezzato a Cuba dopo Che Guevara: l’altro
Ernest, el señor Hemingway, che consegnò alla fama
mondiale, con il suo “Isole nella corrente”, Cayo Guillermo, appena tre chilometri a ovest di Cayo Coco. Il
libro venne pubblicato postumo nel 1970, ma venne
scritto negli anni Cinquanta: da allora poco è cambiato,
«Erano stupendi, con
il loro acuto colore
rosa, in contrasto con il
fondo grigio della riva:
la loro misura e l’essere
tanto brutti nei dettagli
e alle volte tanto perseverantemente belli,
devono essere volatili
antichi, dei tempi remoti». È la descrizione
che Ernest Hemingway
fa dei fenicotteri rosa di
Cayo Guillermo nel suo
“Isole nella corrente”.
E a Thomas Hudson, il
protagonista del libro,
quando avvista l’isola,
fa dire: “Ecco, non
vedi quanto è verde e
promettente?”.

i profumi, le emozioni. Come la pesca d’altura, grande
passione di Hemingway, che ancora oggi affascina molti
viaggiatori. Playa Pilar, a Cayo Guillermo, era la preferita dello scrittore americano e ha lo stesso nome della
sua barca da pesca. Splendida è anche Playa el medio,
con enormi dune sullo sfondo, o l’interminabile Playa
el paso, 5 chilometri di spiaggia. A Cayo Coco, invece,
imperdibili sono Playa Colorada, Playa Larga, Playa
Prohibida, Playa los Flamencos. Ma è bellissimo anche lasciarsi le spiagge alle spalle, e farsi cullare dallo
splendido mare con un windsurf, una barchetta o un catamarano. E perdersi per un po’, fra queste isole nella
corrente.

o see it fly is magical: it has pink paws, a red beak and white
feathers with exception for the tips of the wings which are
black. The white ibis is an elegant bird and it loves to live
near the sea, where nature is still intact. In Cuba, the ibis is called
a Coco. This is why this wonderful island, in the middle of the
archipelago of Jardines del Rey, was christened Cayo Coco: it is the
quiet retreat of the ibis, a little paradise that man has been able to
respect, and, even make it more enjoyable. But is not just the ibis
to reign the throne of this land. A causeway, 27 kilometers long,
allows access to Cayo Coco by car from San Rafael cutting through
Bahia de Perros: here lives the largest colony of flamingos in the
Caribbean, an incredible natural sight famous all over the world.
To see them at sunset, when they are flying low over the sand, it is
an unforgettable experience. With great foresight, this whole area is
under strict nature protection and the many islands, of which Cayo
Coco, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Sabinal are the largest, make up
the ecosystem of the Parque Nacional El Bagà, an ambitious project
in which it was possible to allow the coexistence, with very good
results, of environmental protection and tourism development. A
model, an example to follow.
With authentic beautiful islands and beaches white as snow,
Jardines del Rey is a wonderful archipelago that until the end of
1800 was only a tangled swamp infested with mosquitoes. Then,
towards the thirties, a small community of less than a thousand
people, moved here to extract coal: an activity that did not make
anyone rich. All until the discovery of the extraordinary potential of the islands when the Cuban government of Fidel Castro
decided to focus strongly on tourism.
Fantastic panoramas which also struck the most famous and
appreciated Ernest in Cuba after Che Guevara: the other Ernest,
el señor Hemingway, who made Cayo Guillermo world famous
with his “Islands in the Stream”, just three kilometers west of
Cayo Coco. The book was published posthumously in 1970, but
was written in the fifties. Since then little has changed, with
exception to the amount of people who have visited these wonders, infected also by the enthusiasm of Hemingway in describing the glories of the place, the colony of the pink flamingos, the
“blonde” beaches, the colors, the smells, the emotions. Just like
deep sea fishing, a great passion of Hemingway, which today still
fascinates many tourists. Playa Pilar, in Cayo Guillermo, was
the American writer’s favorite and it has the same name as his
fishing boat. Also beautiful is Playa el medio, with huge dunes in
the background, or the endless Playa el paso, with 5 km of beach.
In Cayo Coco, however, not to be missed are Playa Colorada,
Playa Larga, Playa Prohibida and Playa los Flamencos. Beautiful too is to leave the beaches behind and be lulled by the clear
sea with windsurfing, a boat or a catamaran. Getting lost for a
while between these islands in the stream.

l turismo fa sorridere Cuba: flussi in aumento, nuovi investimenti, apertura di
villaggi. Il ministro del Turismo Manuel Marrero Cruz può guardare al futuro
con ottimismo, anche per quanto riguarda l’Italia che, fra i paesi europei, è stato
quello che ha segnato il maggior incremento nei viaggi verso l’Isla Grande, con un
aumento che l’anno scorso ha toccato il 17,3 per cento. Un dato che conferma il
nostro Paese al quarto posto nella classifica degli arrivi internazionali. Anche grazie
a Blue Panorama, che mantiene la sua leadership nei collegamenti con Cuba e che
sta per festeggiare i 20 anni di collaborazione con Cubana de Aviacion. “Una tappa
importante – dice il ministro Marrero Cruz – E il recente rinnovo dell’intesa fra le
due compagnie dimostra che questo accordo funziona e fa bene al turismo cubano
oltre che alle imprese italiane”. “Per il mercato italiano – spiega ancora il ministro
– è un buon momento: Cuba è di moda e la domanda è alta. Il turista italiano è
un ottimo cliente che cerca mare e relax, ma vuole anche conoscere il patrimonio
culturale cubano; frequenta i villaggi all inclusive, ma non si chiude in hotel: compie
escursioni e acquista prodotti di artigianato”.
Proprio per questi risultati il governo cubano ha deciso di avere l'Italia come Paese
ospite di FitCuba 2015, la fiera internazionale del turismo in programma dal 5 al 7
maggio a Cayo Coco. “L’Italia è un mercato importante per Cuba – afferma ancora
Marrero Cruz – Al momento sono sette i villaggi italiani e stiamo sviluppando
una politica di accordi con i tour operator per aprirne altri. È un mercato molto
fidelizzato che registra un alto livello di soddisfazione. Nel corso del
2015 sono previste 4 o 5 inaugurazioni, ma in forte crescita sono anche
il turismo “fai da te” e il mercato incentive”.
Non solo. C’è grande attenzione anche al mercato crocieristico. “Abbiamo 3 terminal crocieristici a Cuba, attraverso i quali ci piacerebbe
fare una grande operazione che, ne sono convinto, sarebbe molto
importante, non solo per i clienti italiani, ma anche per quelli europei
e del resto del mondo. Pertanto, siamo aperti e attenti a tutte le opportunità. Cuba garantisce tranquillità e sicurezza, abbiamo una natura splendida e
una storia e un popolo straordinari. E sappiamo che in tutto il mondo c’è una gran
voglia di visitare Cuba”.

Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz can
look at the future with optimism, also with regards to
Italy which, among European countries, was the one
which showed the highest increase in travel to the Isla
Grande, with an increase that last year hit 17.3 percent.
This figure confirms our country in fourth place for the
ranking of international arrivals. This also thanks to
Blue Panorama, which maintains its leadership in the
links with Cuba and is about to celebrate 20 years of
collaboration with Cubana de Aviacion. “An important milestone - says Minister Marrero Cruz - And the
recent renewal of the deal between the two companies
shows that this agreement works and is good for Cuban tourism as well as for Italian companies”.
“It is a good time for the Italian market - explains the
minister - Cuba is fashionable and demand is high. The
Italian tourist is a great customer looking for sea and
relaxation, but also wants to learn about the Cuban
cultural heritage; attends all inclusive resorts, but does
not stay confined to the hotel: goes on excursions and
buys local crafts”.
Because of these results, the Cuban government has
decided to have Italy as the host country of FITCUBA
2015, the international tourism fair scheduled from
May 5th to 7th in Cayo Coco.
“Italy is an important market for Cuba - continues
Marrero Cruz - There are seven Italian villages at the
moment and we are developing a policy of agreements
with tour operators to open further ones. It is a very
loyal market which records a high level of satisfaction.
During 2015 there will be 4 or 5 inaugurations, but
also in great growth are “DIY” tourism and market
incentives”.
It doesn’t stop here. There is also great attention to
the cruise market. “We have three cruise terminals in
Cuba, through which we would like to take on a major
operation which, I am convinced, would be very important, not only for Italian clients, but also to the rest
of Europe and the world. Therefore, we are open to all
opportunities. Cuba guarantees peace and security, we
have beautiful wildlife and a history of extraordinary
people, and we know that in the world there is a great
desire to visit Cuba”.

ubana de Aviacion e Blue Panorama ancora insieme. L’accordo di cooperazione avviato fra le due compagnie 12 anni fa è stato esteso fino ad aprile
2016. L’intesa prevede la conferma dei servizi da Roma per L’Havana del
lunedì con prosecuzione su Cancun, del Roma- L’Avana-Santiago de Cuba
del giovedì, e introduce un terzo volo da Roma per Cayo Largo. «Il rinnovo
dell’accordo per i prossimi 12 mesi – sottolinea il fondatore di Blue Panorama, Franco Pecci – consolida il rapporto fra i due vettori che collaborano
con successo da maggio 2002, anno di avvio per BPA delle operazioni di
lungo raggio e di ingresso nella IATA, l’Associazione Internazionale delle
Aerolinee nata proprio all’Hotel Nacional di Avana e della quale Cubana de
Aviacion è uno dei membri fondatori». BPA e Cubana de Aviacion insieme
con Distal Group, GSA delle due compagnie, formano un sodalizio di quasi
20 anni di collaborazione, traguardo che sarà celebrato durante la prossima
fiera del turismo di Cuba dal 5 maggio a Cayo Coco, l’ultima destinazione a
essere lanciata in ordine di tempo fra le sei servite regolarmente su Cuba da
Blue Panorama. Il network di linea di BPA per l’Isla Grande prevede per le
prossime stagioni – oltre ai voli da Roma – servizi da Milano Malpensa per
L’Avana, Cayo Largo, Holguin, Santa Clara-Cayo Santa Maria e Cayo CocoGiardini del Re.
«I nostri prossimi investimenti – aggiunge Remo Della Porta, direttore commerciale di BPA – prevedono la riconfigurazione della Blue Class a bordo del
terzo Boeing B767-300 ER e l’aggiornamento dei menù pasti e bevande di

cooperation agreement between the two companies which started
12 years ago has been extended until April 2016. The agreement
gives confirmation of the flights from Rome to Havana on Mondays
with continuation on to Cancun, Rome-Havana-Santiago de Cuba
on Thursdays, and introduces a third flight from Rome to Cayo
Largo. «The extension of the agreement to the next 12 months - says
the founder of Blue Panorama, Franco Pecci - consolidates the
relationship between the two carriers that collaborate successfully
since may 2002, the starting year for BPA on long-haul flights and

S
essant’anni fa Gabriel Escarrer fondò España Meliá Hotels International, catena alberghiera leader mondiale nel settore vacanze. Era un periodo segnato da
profonde trasformazioni che questo pioniere del turismo ha gestito sempre con
il suo carisma e grandi capacità visionarie. Iniziò alle Baleari, e da lì passò ad altre
mete turistiche spagnole. Capì subito che il know-how turistico spagnolo poteva
essere esportato ad altre destinazioni per continuare a crescere e così Meliá è stato
il primo albergo ad “uscire” fuori dal paese, con un hotel Meliá a Bali nel 1985. Poi
arrivarono i Caraibi, che si stavano aprendo al turismo, e in seguito l'Europa, l'AsiaPacifico e i mercati emergenti del Medio Oriente e dell'Africa.
Escarrer ha saputo sviluppare un portfolio di marchi alberghieri adattandolo alle
diverse tipologie di clienti, introducendo un proprio brand di Spa e scommettendo
sul design e l'alta gastronomia. Sempre con un elevatissimo livello di servizio e
avendo il cliente come priorità: i concetti di “anima” e “magia” si trasformeranno
quasi in un dogma del servizio Meliá.
Il gruppo ha vissuto un importante rinnovamento con l'avvento della seconda
generazione della famiglia Escarrer a metà degli anni 90, che ha portato anche
all’ingresso della compagnia in Borsa, il 2 luglio 1996. Meliá è stata la prima catena
spagnola ad avere un proprio sito internet per le prenotazioni, cosciente che internet avrebbe rivoluzionato il settore alberghiero. Oggi Escarrer continua a stimolare
lo sviluppo tecnologico della sua impresa e a mantenere una grande attenzione
nei confronti del personale, della società e dello sviluppo sostenibile, convinto
che il turismo e la responsabilità sociale devono andare di pari passo. Numerosi

L'ultimo hotel aperto a Cuba è il
Meliá Jardines del Rey, che con
oltre 1100 camere è il più grande
della compagnia al mondo. Il primo
venne inaugurato il 10 maggio del
1990: il Sol Palmeras, a Varadero
in collaborazione con Cubacan, la
prima impresa mista del settore
turistico. Negli anni successivi,
seguirono il Meliá Varadero (il primo
hotel a cinque stelle dell'isola e il
primo con il marchio Meliá) e Meliá
Las Américas, dopo aver avviato la

S
ixty years ago Gabriel Escarrer founded España Meliá Hotels International, the world's
leading hotel chain in holiday industry. In that period, marked by deep changes, this
tourism pioneer has always managed with his charisma and high visionary capacity. He
began in the Balearics and from there moved to other destinations in Spain. He soon understood that the Spanish tourist know-how could be exported to other destinations to keep on
growing and thus, Meliá was the first hotel “to get out of ” the country, with a Meliá hotel in
Bali in 1985. Then came the Caribbean, which were opening up to tourism and later Europe,
Asia- Pacific and the emerging markets of the Middle East and Africa.
Escarrer could develop a portfolio of hotel brands adapting it to different types of customers,
introducing his own brand of Spa and betting on design and haute cuisine.
Always keeping in mind to mantain an high level service and the client as a priority: concepts
like “soul” and “magic” will be almost a dogma for Meliá service. The advent of the second
generation of the Escarrer family in the mid 90s, brought a major renovation together with
the entry of the company on the stock exchange, July 2, 1996. Meliá was the first Spanish
chain to have its own website for reservations, conscious that the Internet would revolutionize the hotel industry. Today Escarrer continues to stimulate the technological development of

Meliá IN Cuba
Meliá Jardines del Rey is the last hotel
opened in Cuba, that is, with over 1100
rooms, the company largest hotel in
the world. The first was inaugurated
on May10, 1990: the Sol Palmeras in

York. Da ragazza si è dedicata con passione e qualche
successo all’equitazione, vincendo numerosi premi

l 26 marzo appena trascorso Roberto Bolle è felicemente approdato al traguardo delle 40 primavere.
40 anni di cui ben 28 consacrati da un successo di
livello mondiale. La fama però non gli ha mai fatto
dimenticare quanto duramente il talento deve essere forgiato al fuoco costante della dedizione. Arabesques, pirouettes, pliés e pas de deux ripetuti fino
a raggiungere la perfezione: non c’è altro modo per
salire i gradini della Scala di Milano. In Accademia
Roberto Bolle arriva appena dodicenne. A infilargli
in valigia calzamaglie, determinazione e tanti sogni
ci ha pensato la mamma, che non ha esitato a lasciarlo partire ancora “cucciolo” mentre i suoi coetanei
inseguivano palloni nei cortili coccolati dalla presenza costante e ovattata dei genitori. «A quell'età se
non porti a termine una cosa non importa, ne inizi
un'altra – riflette Roberto – perché fai sempre in
tempo a diventare chiunque. Da piccolo, ballare non
mi pareva una scelta definitiva, solo un qualcosa che
mi faceva star bene. Non avevo capito che fosse un
bisogno, una passione. Invece si trattava già allora
di una scelta ben precisa, l'unica possibile, perché
i ragazzi soffrono se non fanno quello che amano.
E se ciò che amiamo richiede sacrifici, pazienza».

Così è la danza: un imperativo rigoroso, esigente,
unico. Un susseguirsi altalenante di linee morbide e
rigido esercizio, grazia di movimento e agilità felina,
crampi di dolore soffocati dalla tenacia e lacrime
di gioia dopo un’ovazione. Quando le tende di velluto pesante si schiudono, l’esitazione deve svanire
anche se il cuore pulsa forte. Roberto ha avvitato in
dégagés e tournant ogni centimetro del suo metro e
ottantasette d’altezza, “volando” leggero e divino in
armonia con la musica. Le note di “Romeo e Giulietta” lo hanno consacrato Primo Ballerino, aprendo
la strada a quella carriera internazionale che ne
fa oggi il “simbolo dell’Italia che piace”. E che ha
commosso Lady Diana, strappando applausi perfino
agli austeri reali d’Inghilterra. Il 2009 è l’anno del
successo: le sue esibizioni fanno il giro del mondo.
Quando l’American Ballet Theatre lo nomina “Principal Dancer”, a Milano gli viene tributato il titolo
di Première Étoile. La sua, però, è una vittoria tutta
particolare, che brilla a dispetto dei fuochi fatui
della popolarità e affonda le radici in valori sedimentati. «Rispetto del prossimo, generosità, semplicità,

of which 28 consecrated by worldwide
success. Fame, however, has never
made him forget how hard talent must
be set alight by constant dedication.
Arabesques, pirouettes, pliés and pas
de deux repeated to achieve perfection: there is no other way to climb the
steps of the Scala in Milan. Roberto
Bolle is twelve when he arrives at
the Academy. To pack his bags with
tights, determination and hopes was
his mother, who did not hesitate to let
him free when still a “puppy” whilst
his peers were busy chasing balls in
courtyards, cocooned by the constant
presence of parents. «At that age if
you don’t complete a task it does not
matter, you can always start another
- reflects Roberto - because you still
have time to become anything. As a
child, dancing did not seem like my
final choice, just something that made
me feel good. I did not realise it was a
need, a passion. But, already back then
it was a clear choice, the only possible
one, because youngsters suffer if they
don’t do what they love. If what we
love requires sacrifice, then be it».

of movement and feline agility, cramping pain stifled by the tenacity and
tears of joy after a standing ovation.
When the heavy velvet curtains open,
hesitation must vanish even if the
heart beats fast. Roberto has moved in
dégagés and tournant every inch of his
one meter eighty-seven body, “flying”
light and divine in harmony with the
music. The notes of “Romeo and Juliet”
have established him Primo Ballerino,
opening the way to the international
career, one that touched Lady Diana,

austere royals of England. 2009 was
the year of success: his performances

mai stata. Ho sempre dipinto la
mia realtà, non i miei sogni”

l suo primo quadro fu un autoritratto che donò al
ragazzo di cui era innamorata. Insieme avevano avuto
da poco un terribile incidente. All'uscita di scuola il
bus su cui era salita con Alejandro per tornare a casa
venne travolto da un tram. La colonna vertebrale di
Frida si spezzò in tre punti; femore, costole e gamba
sinistra frantumati, osso pelvico spezzato; un corrimano
le entrò nel fianco e uscì dalla vagina. Un disastro, che
nel corso della sua vita le costò 32 operazioni. Costretta
a letto per anni col busto ingessato, cercò consolazione
nella lettura e nella pittura. I genitori le regalarono un
letto a baldacchino con uno specchio in alto in modo
che potesse vedersi mentre dipingeva.
Intorno a Frida Kahlo si è costruito un autentico mito e
la sua figura è un'icona mondiale della cultura messicana del ’900, anticipatrice del movimento femminista. Nacque nel 1907 a Coyoacan, vicino a Città del
Messico, ma le piaceva dire che il suo anno di nascita
era il 1910, perché si sentiva profondamente figlia della
Rivoluzione messicana di quell’anno.
Quando decise che dipingere sarebbe stata la sua vita,
mostrò le sue opere a Diego Rivera, illustre pittore
dell’epoca, che rimase molto colpito dal suo “stile
moderno”. Fra i due il legame non fu solo artistico,
fecero politica nel Partito Comunista messicano e si
sposarono. Rivera non fu mai un marito fedele. Ma
anche Frida ebbe numerose relazioni, con entrambi
i sessi. Quando rimase incinta di Rivera, il suo fisico
debilitato non le consentì di diventare madre e per lei
fu un’enorme sofferenza. Rivera le fu molto vicino:
tornarono a vivere insieme in Messico, ma in due case
separate collegate da un ponte in modo da avere ognuno
i propri “spazi da artista”. Nel 1939 si separarono
ancora: l’ennesimo tradimento di Rivera fu gravissimo,
perché la sua nuova amante era Cristina Kahlo, la
sorella di Frida. Fu il divorzio. Ma un anno dopo si
risposarono.
Rivera fu l’uomo della vita per Frida, anche dal punto di
vista artistico. Da lui assimilò uno stile naif che la portò
a dipingere piccoli autoritratti ispirati all’arte popolare
e alle tradizioni precolombiane, un modo per affermare
l’identità messicana. I critici, a proposito della sua arte,
hanno parlato di Pauperismo Rivoluzionario, Estridentismo, Realismo Magico. “Pensavano che anche io fossi
una surrealista – ripeté la Kahlo – ma non lo sono mai
stata. Ho sempre dipinto la mia realtà, non i miei sogni”. Non smise mai di soffrire: le amputarono la gamba
destra e un’embolia polmonare la uccise a soli 47 anni.
Fu cremata e le sue ceneri sono ancora conservate nella
sua Casa Azul, oggi sede del Museo Frida Kahlo. Le ultime parole che scrisse nel suo diario furono: “Spero che
l'uscita sia gioiosa e spero di non tornare mai più”.
Frida Kahlo è stata la prima donna latino-americana
ritratta su un francobollo degli Stati Uniti, emesso il 21
giugno 2001. La sua vita è stata raccontata in due film
e perfino un album della band Coldplay è ispirato a una
frase che scrisse su un suo quadro otto giorni prima di
morire: “Viva la vida”.

er first painting was a self-portrait that she gave the young boy
she was in love with. They had both just been involved in a
terrible accident. Finishing school the bus on which she had got
on with Alejandro to return home was hit by a tram. Frida’s spine
broke in three places, the femur, the ribs and left leg were broken,
her pelvic bone also broken, a handrail entered her in the side and
came out of her vagina. A disaster that in the course of her life cost
her 32 operations. Bedridden for years with her bust in plaster, she
sought consolation in reading and painting. Her parents gave her
a four-poster bed with a mirror on top so that she could see herself
whilst painting.
Around Frida Kahlo a true legend has been built and her figure is
a global icon of Mexican culture of the '900, the forerunner of the
feminist movement. Born in 1907 in Coyoacan, near Mexico City,
she liked to say that her birth year was 1910, because she deeply felt
daughter of the Mexican Revolution of that year.
When she decided that painting would become her life, she showed
her works to Diego Rivera, a renowned painter of that time, who
was impressed by her “modern style”. The bond between the two
was not only artistic, together they were involved in politics in the
Mexican Communist Party and also married. Rivera was never a
faithful husband. But Frida also had numerous relationships with
both sexes. When she became pregnant by Rivera, her weakened
body did not allow her to become a mother and this was for her
a huge suffering. Rivera stayed close to her: they returned to live
together in Mexico, but in two separate houses connected by a bridge
in order to each have their own “artist space”. In 1939 they parted
again: the umpteenth betrayal by Rivera was very serious this time,
because his new lover was Cristina Kahlo, Frida's sister. It was a
divorce. But a year later they remarried.
For Frida, Rivera was the man of her life, also from an artistic point
of view. From him she assimilated a naïf style which led her to paint
small self-portraits inspired by folk art and pre-Columbian traditions, a way to affirm her Mexican identity. Critics, on the subject
of her art, have spoken of Revolutionary pauperism, Estridentism

and Magic Realism. “They thought that I was too a Surrealist - told
Kahlo - but I have never been one. I always painted my own reality,
not my dreams”. She never stopped suffering: her right leg was amputated and a pulmonary embolism killed her at just 47 years old. She
was cremated and her ashes are still preserved in her Casa Azul, now
the site of the Frida Kahlo Museum. The last words she wrote in her
diary were: “I hope the end is joyful and I hope never to return”.
Frida Kahlo was the first Latin American woman portrayed on a
US postage stamp, issued on 21st of June 2001. Her life has been told
in two films and even an album from the band Coldplay has been
inspired by a phrase that she wrote on one of her paintings eight days
before her death: “Viva la vida”.

Sono collocate all’interno della residenza
privata Villa Croce, in un contesto raffinato e
arredato con mobili Vitra, Molteni e Schiffini, le opere raccolte da Rosetta Barabino. Il
titolo dell’esposizione deriva dall’attitudine
della collezionista ad acquistare con disinvoltura opere uguali a quelle esposte al Moma
di New York, collocandole al di fuori da un
contesto espositivo canonicamente inteso,
appendendo, ad esempio, piccoli quadri di
Warhol su un comò di design. La mostra
riunisce settanta artisti italiani e internazionali tra i quali Carl
Andre, Donald Judd, Cy Twombly, Dan Flavin, Robert Morris, Olafur Eliasson, Cindy Sherman, Gordon Matta-Clark,
Takashi Murakami, Ettore Spalletti, Ai Wei Wei, Fischli &
Weiss e Yang Fudong. I lavori scelti, realizzati tra il 1962 e il
2014, raccontano le trasformazioni dell’arte internazionale
negli ultimi cinquant’anni attraverso mezzi espressivi che spaziano dalla pittura alla scultura, dai disegni alle installazioni
site-specific, dalle fotografie ai ricami fino alle tessiture.
Sono esposte per la prima volta in Italia le 140
opere del Maestro provenienti dalla collezione dell’Israel Museum di Gerusalemme.

influenzata dal grande amore per la moglie
Bella Rosenfeld e dal dolore per la sua morte
prematura avvenuta nel 1944. La mostra, curata da Ronit Sorek, si articola in 8 sezioni
tematiche che delineano una mappa artistica
e spirituale ampia e caleidoscopica, che sta a
fondamento del profilo apolide dell’artista. Il percorso, infatti,
ripercorre la sua vita e la sua arte, che fu commistione delle
maggiori tradizioni occidentali europee: dall’originaria cultura
ebraica a quella russa, fino all’incontro con la pittura francese
delle avanguardie. Un’intera sezione è dedicata alle illustrazioni della Bibbia con temi che esercitarono sempre un grande
fascino su di lui e che rivelano un’interpretazione “umanista”
dei testi sacri, come il ciclo d’incontri storici tra l’uomo e Dio
dell’Antico Testamento.

CHAGALL. LOVE AND LIFE
Allocated inside the private residence Villa Croce,
in a refined environment furnished with Vitra,
Molteni and Schiffini, are the works gathered
by Rosetta Barabino. The title of the exhibition
derives from the attitude of the collector of casually buying works which are the same as those
exhibited at Moma in New York, placing them
outside a canonically intense exhibition context,
hanging, for example, small paintings by Warhol
on a designer dresser. The exhibition brings
together seventy Italian and international artists
such as Carl Andre, Donald Judd, Cy Twombly,
Dan Flavin, Robert Morris, Olafur Eliasson, Cindy Sherman, Gordon Matta-Clark, Takashi Murakami, Ettore Spalletti, Ai Wei Wei,
Fischli & Weiss and Yang Fudong. The chosen works, created between
1962 and 2014, tell of the transformation of international art in the
last fifty years through mediums ranging from painting to sculpture,
from drawings to site-specific installations, from photographs to
embroidery right through to textiles.
Exposed in Italy for the first time the 140
works of the Master from the collection of the
Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Drawings, oils,
gouaches, lithographs, etchings and watercolors
tell the poetics of Chagall influenced by his
great love for his wife Bella Rosenfeld and
his pain from her premature death in 1944.
The exhibition, curated by Ronit Sorek, is
divided into eight thematic sections which
outline a wide and kaleidoscopic artistic and
spiritual map, which is the foundation of his
personas profile. The exhibition, in fact, traces
his life and his art, which was a mingling of the major Western
European traditions: from the original Jewish culture to the
Russian one, until the meeting with the French avant-garde
painting. An entire section is dedicated to the illustrations of the
Bible with themes that show a great charm about him, revealing
a “humanist” interpretation of the sacred texts, such as the cycle of
historical encounters between man and God of Testament.

icono che sia una sensazione difficile da descrivere, di quelle
che non puoi comprendere se non le provi in prima persona.
La corsa, le occhiate per controllare che la vela si gonfi senza
intoppi, il vento che fischia nelle orecche e la corda che inizia a tirare, più forte e ancora più forte. Fino a che la terra viene a mancare
sotto ai piedi, dolcemente, e la forza di gravità ci abbandona. Una
volta decollati ci si mette comodi, seduti, a godersi lo spettacolo
che la natura aveva riservato soltanto agli uccelli.
E se è grazie ai fratelli Wright che ora voliamo ancor più comodamente seduti in prima classe – con pranzo vegetariano e bagaglio
in stiva – è per via di alcuni pioneri del volo in paracadute che oggi
possiamo godere di tutta l’indescrivibile libertà di un viaggio in
parapendio. È all’inizio degli anni ’80 che i deltaplanisti iniziano
a trovare traffico nei cieli: una manciata di alpinisti sta pian piano
scoprendo e provando l’ebbrezza di lanciarsi con il paracadute
dalle pendici delle montagne, al termine di una scalata. Nel 1985
Pierre Gevaux decolla dagli 8035 metri del K4, pochi anni dopo
Jean Marc Boivin fa lo stesso dall’Everest. Da lì, per il parapendio,
è tutto in discesa. Non letteralmente, almeno: con l’affinarsi delle
tecniche, degli equipaggiamenti, e soprattutto con la “scoperta”
delle correnti ascenzionali, il volo in parapendio acquista sempre
più libertà perché la permanenza in aria passa dai minuti alle ore,
gli spostamenti dai metri ai chilometri. Arrivano associazioni, club,
brevetti da rilasciare, scuole e istruttori, competizioni ufficiali, piloti specializzati e record da battere. Il motivo del successo è la sua
semplicità. Il parapendio, infatti, è il volo libero meno traumatico e
più facile da intraprendere, in tandem prima, da soli poi. Solo nelle
zone autorizzate, certo: Gran Sasso (Abruzzo), Bassano (Veneto) e
Cervinia (Valle d’Aosta) tra le altre in Italia. Per potersi godere lo
spettacolo come fanno le aquile.

hey say it is a difficult feeling to describe, one of those that
cannot be understood until tried. The run, the glances to
check that the glider is inflating smoothly, the wind whistling and the rope starting to pull, stronger and stronger. Until land is gently lost under your feet, and gravity abandons
you. Once taken off you make yourself comfortable, seated, to
enjoy the spectacle that nature had reserved only for birds.
If it's thanks to the Wright brothers that we can now fly
more comfortably seated in first class - with a vegetarian
lunch and checked baggage - it's thanks to some parachuting
pioneers that today we can enjoy the indescribable freedom of
paragliding. It was in the early 80s when hang gliders started
to find traffic in the skies: a handful of climbers slowly
discovering and experiencing the thrill of skydiving from the
mountain slopes at the end of a
climb. In 1985 Pierre Gevaux
takes off from 8035 meters on
the K4, a few years after Jean
Marc Boivin does the same
from the Everest. From then
on, for paragliding, it's all easy.
At least with the refinement of
techniques, equipment, and especially with the “discovery” of
the currents, paragliding gains freedom because the stay up
in the air passes from minutes to hours, shifts from meters to
km. Associations, clubs, patents issued, schools and instructors, official competitions, riders and specialized records to
beat all arrive. The reason for the success is its simplicity.
Paragliding, in fact, is the least traumatic and easiest to learn
free flight to take, in tandem initially and alone then. Only in
authorized areas of course: Gran Sasso (Abruzzo), Bassano

ivertente, piacevole, comoda, colorata. Super accessoriata. È
giovanissima la “sorella maggiore” di casa Smart: tre metri e
mezzo di lunghezza, quattro posti e cinque porte. È la ForFour:
una divertente e pratica citycar, ricca di versioni, accessori e finiture.
L’allestimento Prime comprende persino i sedili in pelle e il tetto in
vetro in due parti, anteriore e posteriore. Le portiere, anche quelle
posteriori, sono ampie e si aprono quasi ad angolo retto, rendendo
agevole l’accesso a un divano che è adatto anche per due adulti.
Quanto al bagagliaio, il rivestimento è curato e la praticità buona,
con l’enorme comodità di poter ripiegare a libro anche il sedile
destro: e così il vano di carico diventa davvero molto spazioso.
Anche nella guida, la Smart ForFour ricorda da vicino la ForTwo.
Le dimensioni aumentano di 75 centimetri e consentono una
maneggevolezza straordinaria. Tenuta di strada e risposta dello
sterzo sono ottimali e nonostante il peso, che è superiore di
circa un quintale rispetto alla ForTwo, il tre cilindri 0.9 turbo a
benzina è davvero brillante e non consuma nemmeno molto: 15
chilometri con un litro. E nella versione con il cambio manuale, la
fluidità della guida è decisamente maggiore rispetto agli “strappi”
dell’automatica ForTwo. Le Smart ForFour hanno gli stessi
allestimenti delle ForTwo, con prezzi superiori di 650 euro: si parte
dai 13.400 euro della 70 Youngster, che, come tutte le Smart, ha di
serie cinque airbag, il “clima” automatico, gli alzavetri elettrici, il
servosterzo, la radio e i cerchi in lega. La Prime ha, oltre agli interni
in pelle, fendinebbia, sensori di parcheggio posteriori, interfaccia

brilliant and does not consume much: 15 Kilometers per
liter. With manual version, the fluidity of the drive is
much greater than that of the automatic ForTwo.
The Smart ForFours have the same equipment as the
ForTwos, with prices higher of the 650 euro mark:

ra il 1517. Tre navi, al comando di un ricco hidalgo che aveva finanziato la
spedizione, videro terra ventuno giorni dopo esser partiti da Cuba. Era la costa
nordorientale dello Yucatán. Gli spagnoli avvistarono un grande centro abitato
con templi in pietra e si convinsero che si trattava del Cathay, il paese del Gran
Khan, e la battezzarono “Grande Cairo”. Secondo alcuni il nome Yucatán deriva
dalla parola, in lingua nahuatl, Yucatán, che significa "il luogo della ricchezza", ma
altri fanno riferimento alla risposta che gli indigeni diedero ai primi spagnoli: “non
ti capisco”.
Sia come sia è una terra splendida e affascinante, ricca di una storia che ha lasciato testimonianze archeologiche uniche, da Chichen Itza a Uxmal e Tulum, città
affascinanti, come Merida, splendide località di mare. Lo Yucatán custodisce tesori
preziosi, come le haciendas henequeneras, dedicate alla coltivazione dell'agave.

rali d'acqua tipiche del Messico, proprio come fecero le haciendas qualche
secolo dopo. In ogni angolo dello Yucatán c'è una hacienda henequenera: di alcune non resta molto più che delle semplici rovine, mentre altre
sono diventate accoglienti e interessanti centri turistici. Tra le più note ci
sono l’Hacienda Yaxcopoli, trasformata in un museo che illustra come si
viveva in una tipica hacienda, la Hacienda Santa Rosa, oggi uno spettacolare albergo di lusso, Teya, con il suo famoso ristorante, e Sotuta de Peón,
una delle poche ancora attive. La cucina è un’altra caratteristica interessante dello Yucatán: molte delle componenti utilizzate nella tradizionale
cucina maya, tra cui il cioccolato, vengono spesso abbinate a ingredienti
come il maiale, le arance, portate dagli spagnoli, e l'edam, un tipico formaggio olandese. Il risultato è una gastronomia ricca di influenze europee,
caraibiche, mediorientali e indigene. Tra i piatti tradizionali yucatechi che
si trovano nei ristoranti di Mérida vanno ricordati la “sopa de lima” (una
zuppa di pollo e tortilla con lime), il “poc chuc” (carne di maiale marinata
nel succo di arancia amara), il “pollo ticuleño” (pollo cotto all'interno di
foglie di banano), il “pavo en relleno negro” (tacchino preparato in una
salsa scura a base di peperoncino) e il “pavo en escabeche” (tacchino con

I
t was 1517. Three ships, under the
command of a rich hidalgo who had
financed the expedition, saw earth
twenty-one days after they departed from
Cuba. It was the north-east coast of Yucatán. The Spanish sighted a large town
with stone temples and were convinced
that it was Cathay, the land of the Great
Khan, and named it “Greater Cairo”. According to some, the name Yucatán comes
from the word Yucatán, in Nahuatl,
which means "the place of wealth," but
others refer to the answer that natives
first gave to the Spaniards: “I don’t understand ”.
Whatever the truth, it is a beautiful and
fascinating land, rich in history that has
left unique archaeological evidence from
Chichen Itza to Uxmal and Tulum, fascinating cities, like Mérida, and beautiful seaside locations. Yucatán preserves
precious treasures, such as haciendas
henequeneras, areas of agave cultivation.
The world's most famous hat
was born in Becal between
Campeche and Merida. They
called it the “fipis” but changed
its name when it was used for
its lightness by the workers who
were digging the Panama Canal under the sun. The working
of the fiber was done in caves
where moisture helped to make
the hats very flexible, so much
so that the best products, called
“finos” could go through a wedding ring and resume shape immediately after.
Splendid buildings where they once lived,
and in some cases still live in perfect symbiosis between nature and history: the
Mayas would settle close to cenotes, natural reserves of water typical of Mexico,
just as the haciendas did few centuries
later.
In every corner of the Yucatán there is a
hacienda henequenera: of some all that is
left are simple ruins, while others have
become welcoming and attractive tourist centers. Among the best known there
are the Hacienda Yaxcopoli, made into a
museum illustrating what life was like in
a typical hacienda, the Hacienda Santa
Rosa, now a spectacular luxury hotel,
Teya, with its famous restaurant, and Sotuta de Peón, one of the few still active
ones.
Food is another interesting feature of
Yucatán: many of the ingredients used in
the traditional Mayan cuisine, including
chocolate, are often combined with ingre-
dients such as pork and oranges, brought
by the Spaniards, and edam, a typical
Dutch cheese. The result are local dishes
rich with European, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and indigenous influences.
Among the traditional Yucatán dishes
found in Mérida restaurants examples
are the “sopa de lima” (a chicken soup
with tortillas and lime), the “poc chuc”
(pork marinated in sour orange juice),
“pollo ticuleño” (chicken cooked in banana
leaves), “pavo en relleno negro” (turkey
prepared in a dark sauce made with
chilly) and “pavo en escabeche” (flavored
turkey with spices, cloves and black pepper). Another local specialty that should
absolutely be tried in the Mérida restaurants is the “queso relleno”, Edam stuffed
with minced meat with spices.

ev’essere stato il Meltemi a soffiarle in giro qua e là nell’Egeo. Forse
per dispetto, magari per volere degli dei. Oppure la perseveranza
delle onde, che hanno lusingato la terra montuosa del continente
fino a guadagnarne qualche frammento. Fatto sta che le Sporadi – una
trentina in tutto, molte di queste disabitate – sono pezzi confusi di un
grande puzzle, un mosaico verdeggiante e scanzonato sullo specchio del
mare. A mezza strada tra Grecia e Turchia, tra mondo classico e modernità, l’arcipelago delle “sparse” punteggia di baie d’oro un’acqua che più
turchese non si può. Consigli per la partenza: mettere in valigia un po’ di
tutto, dalle scarpe da trekking all’abito da sera, senza ovviamente dimenticare il bikini. Chi visita le Sporadi ha fatto centro: non v’è altro luogo
sulla terra che sappia mescolare occasioni di svago così alternative e pros-

The Greek archipelago amazes its visitors
thanks to a unique beauty, between old and new
sime fra loro. Distano poche miglia l’una dall’altra, ma ognuna riflette un aspetto
che la rende unica. Stessi gli ingredienti, diverse le dosi: a seconda del prevalere
di paesaggi caratteristici e tesori archeologici, natura incontaminata e attrazioni
mondane, queste isole sono perfette per turisti d’ogni tipo. E di qualunque umore:
dopo un’immersione incantata e meditativa nella natura lussureggiante di Skyros,
basterà prendere il traghetto e dirigersi verso la più chiassosa Skiathos, secondo
l’estro del momento. Sebbene impossibili da “riordinare” perfino su una mappa,
gli antichi avevano comunque individuato due raggruppamenti a nord e a sud della
Thessalia. Di qui la suddivisione in Sporadi Settentrionali e Meridionali, entrambe
battenti bandiera greca. Procedendo in senso orario, da nord verso le coste avvolgenti della Turchia, si incontra subito Skiathos, la regina del divertimento, l'isola
che ubriaca i vacanzieri con un rutilante caleidoscopio di locali notturni, ristoranti,
attrattive e disco club. Annidati in più di settanta calette, i più chic si affollano nei
pressi della splendida Koukounariés, spiaggia cosmopolita e modaiola. Di tutt’altro
stampo la dirimpettaia Skopelos, un “percorso dell’anima” fra vigneti e bianchi
monasteri, olivi e chiesette color pastello e commossi ex voto dei marinai dell’isola.
Più in basso troneggia Alonissos, seducente nelle sue curve di sabbia fine, che fa gli
onori di casa alle spiagge di Skyros, l’ultima delle Settentrionali, patria dei rarissimi
cavalli nani e culla di un bellissimo artigianato locale. Quando la bussola punta a
sud, le lancette dell’orologio turbinano a ritroso nei secoli, ad annunciare un viaggio nel tempo fra colonne e rovine. Fa da apripista Samo, terra natia di Epicuro e
Pitagora, consacrata al culto di Era, dea dell’amore e regina dell’Olimpo. Toccano
alla mitica Rodi, invece, gli onori di casa nel Dodecaneso, sul cui fondale restò addormentato il famoso Colosso, settima meraviglia del mondo antico. Per tornare al
presente, basterà salpare a bordo della prima barca in partenza dal molo!

Sporade islands – about 30 in total, many
unhabited – seem like confused pieces of a
big puzzle, a green mosaic placed along the
sea. Half way between Greece and Turkey,
between an old world and a new one, the
archipelago of the Sporades dots the turquoise sea with golden bays. Advice for
travel: pack a little of everything in the

chiudere in bellezza qualunque libagione. Gli ingredienti
occorrenti sono facilmente reperibili: frutta, burro, zucchero, rum e liquore aromatizzato all’arancia. Fondamentale è che i mango siano maturi e succosi al punto giusto.
Al burro sciolto a fuoco lento in una casseruola, vanno
uniti zucchero e scorza d’arancia grattugiata. Dopo aver
innaffiato di Triple sec, si procede ad “infiammare”. Fuoco
spento per l’aggiunta di succhi d’arancia e di limone, e
poi di nuovo acceso per portare a ebollizione. Siamo alla
fine: i mango tagliati a metà devono restare a macerare
nel composto così ottenuto per 5 minuti a fiamma bassa,
in modo che ne assorbano l’aroma. Una spruzzata di rum
riscaldato, e ancora fuoco sul tutto. Da servire subito,
con l’aggiunta del contrasto cold di una pallina di gelato.

is 30 minutes, sweet-toothed guests and a desire
to surprise. Ideal for a jolly evening in company,
the mischievous reference between passion and
fire makes it devilishly suitable for a romantic
tête-à-tête. Not only fresh and original, it is
also digestive, it goes well with any menu: a
real touch of class to finish off any meal. The
ingredients needed are readily available: fruit,
butter, sugar, rum and orange flavored liqueur.
Ripe and juicy mangoes are a must. Melt the
butter on low heat in a saucepan, and then add
the sugar and grated orange peel.After having
added Triple sec, proceed to “inflame”. Switch
off the heat to add the orange juice and lemon,
and then turn on again to bring to the boil.At
the end: the mangos cut in half must remain to
marinate in the mixture obtained for 5 minutes
over low heat, so that they can absorb the
aroma. Throw in a splash of heated rum, and
boil everything again. Serve immediately, with
the addition of the contrast of a ball of ice cream.

Dopo una stagione 2014 all'insegna dei
bikini e dei trikini striminziti, il nuovo
anno viaggia indietro nel tempo e ripropone la moda mare tipica degli anni ’50.
Slip a vita alta che esaltano le forme
anche delle donne più in carne, costumi interi per un impeccabile effetto
vintage e niente orli, solo tagli a vivo
che non stringono e non segnano. Non
mancano le contaminazioni sportive:
tra i trend più bizzarri dell'estate c'è il
bikini con top da fitness ispirato alle
nuotatrici professioniste. Lo propone
Victoria's Secret, mostrando come un
modello non troppo succinto possa essere comunque sexy (almeno indosso ai
suoi Angeli) e Mara Hoffman che il suo
bikini sporty lo fa addirittura accollato:
non farà troppo caldo?
Tra gli evergreen, invece, c'è il classico
bikini a triangolo o a fascia, ma dalle
note retrò, come i modelli di Bikini
Lovers indossati dalla fashion blogger
Chiara Biasi.
Ma passiamo alle fantasie di stagione.
Resistono le tinte fluo, che si mischiano a motivi geometrici ed esotici. Le
stampe animalier sposano le tonalità
pastello, come nel caso della SS 2015
collection Blumarine. C'è chi, come
Parah, preferisce le tinte unite e chi
osa con bikini spezzati (slip tinta unita
e reggiseno fantasia o viceversa). Il
risultato? Una bellissima esplosione
di colori. Non è tutto. I lookbook delle
maggiori case di beachwear mettono in
risalto un altro must have di stagione: le
frange. Lo scorso inverno le abbiamo
trovate su borse e accessori e con
l'arrivo dell'estate approdano sui costumi. Ideali per un effetto sbarazzino e
per mettere in risalto anche i décolleté
meno prosperosi.
La moda mare dell'estate, dunque,
è all'insegna della comodità e di una
sensualità perduta, quella delle pin up
degli anni ’50. Un solo consiglio: meglio
alternare vite alte e top sportivi ai classici bikini, per evitare che a rimetterci
sia l'abbronzatura.

un, sea, a straw hat and ... bikini, trikini or a swimsuit?
With just few weeks to go before the holidays, many
begin to flip through magazines, look on major fashion
brand websites and peek in shop windows in search of the
trends of Summer 2015.
After the 2014 season in the name of skimpy bikinis and
trikinis, this year we travel back in time and repeat
swimwear typical of the 50s. High-waisted bottoms which
enhance shapes of even the fuller women, swimsuits for a
flawless vintage effect and no hems, only raw cuts which
are not too tight.
There is no shortage of sporty inspirations: among the most
bizarre trends of summer there is the bikini with fitness
tops inspired by professional swimmers. To propose them is
Victoria's Secret, showing how a not too skimpy piece can
still be sexy (at least on their models) and Mara Hoffman
which does the sporty bikini with a high neck: will not be
too hot?
Amongst the evergreen, there are the classic triangle bikini
and bandeau, but with an added retro feel, such as the
pieces by Bikini Lovers as worn by fashion blogger Chiara
Biasi.
Moving on to patterns for the season. Made to stay are
the fluorescent dyes, which are mixed with geometric and
exotic motifs. Animal prints marry with pastel shades, as
in the case of the SS 2015 Blumarine collection. Some, like
Parah, prefer solid colors and those who dare with mixed
bikinis (plain bottoms and fancy top
or vice versa). The result? A beautiful
explosion of colors.

Se c'è un gioco che non passa mai di moda,
che sa coinvolgere grandi e piccini e che
permette di trascorrere un'ora spensierata
in riva al mare, quello è il gioco delle biglie. Disegnate una pista con una paletta
o direttamente trascinando sulla sabbia il
più piccolo componente del gruppo, create
dei simpatici ostacoli con ciabatte, palette,
secchielli e tutto ciò che avete sotto l'ombrellone e iniziate la vostra gara a colpi di
unghia (dell'indice o del medio).
Voglia di una parentesi divertente e dinamica?
Giocare a racchettoni sul bagnasciuga è l'attività ideale per soddisfare questo desiderio.
Meglio comprare dei racchettoni di plastica
dura e la classica pallina in gomma di media
grandezza (non si rovineranno neanche con
acqua e salsedine), tenerne però sempre in

is the game of marbles. Make a track in the sand
by using a scoop or dragging something along the
sand, create some nice obstacles with flip flops,
shovels, buckets and all that you have under your
beach umbrella and start the game by hitting the
marbles with your fingernails (index or middle).

Un classico intramontabile per coinvolgere
tutta la famiglia è, senza dubbio, il gioco
delle bocce. Vietato farne a meno per le vacanze al mare. Si può decidere di giocare 1
contro 1 o anche in squadre. Un consiglio:
meglio allestire l'area da gioco dove la sabbia è asciutta, magari non nelle ore più calde
del giorno, per permettere alle bocce e al
boccino di rotolare con maggiore facilità e
percorrere traiettorie più interessanti.
Un simpatico passatempo da fare in compagnia di amici è la "staffetta d'acqua". Cosa
occorre? Due squadre di almeno 4 persone
disposte su due file, 2 spugne e 2 bottiglie
vuote. Eseguendo la classica staffetta, ogni
squadra (un giocatore per volta) deve correre
in mare, inzuppare la spugna di acqua, strizzarla nella bottiglia e cercare di riempirla nel
minor tempo possibile. Vince la squadra che
riesce per prima nell’impresa.
Bowls
A timeless classic to involve the whole family is
without a doubt the game of bowls. A must have
for beach holidays. You can decide to play 1-on-1
or in teams. A tip: better to play where the sand is
dry, and maybe not during the hottest hours of the
day, to allow the bowls and the snitch to roll more
easily and follow more interesting routes.
Water Relay
A nice game to play in the company of friends is the
"water relay". What do you need? Two teams of at
least four people placed in two rows, two sponges and
two empty bottles. By performing the classic relay,
each team (one player at a time) has to run into the
sea, soak the sponge in water, squeeze it in the bottle
and try to fill it as quickly as possible. The team that
fills the bottle first.

il telo dai 4 angoli e utilizzarlo

permette di posizionare il palloncino al centro e di dare la spinta
necessaria per il lancio della bomba d'acqua. Le 2 squadre dovranno passarsi il palloncino in questo
modo: la coppia che per prima lo
farà scoppiare avrà perso.

Grazie a Il Saggiatore arrivano in Italia tre racconti ancora inediti dello straordinario Jerome David Salinger: I
Giovani, Va’ da Eddie, Una volta alla settimana.
Conosciuto dai più per il romanzo Il giovane Holden,
sono i racconti brevi a caratterizzare la sua produzione
letteraria. Uno stile piano, uno sguardo limpidamente
cinico, una scrittura asciutta che avrebbe segnato per
sempre una svolta nella letteratura contemporanea americana. Siamo alle soglie della seconda guerra mondiale e
Salinger è un giovane ambizioso che vuole caparbiamente essere pubblicato dal New Yorker con la ferma convinzione di essere un grande scrittore. Aveva ragione, ma
il New Yorker non lo aveva saputo riconoscere. Nel 1940
fu la piccola rivista Story che pubblicò I Giovani. Va’
da Eddie fu pubblicato da un giornaletto universitario.
E allora dobbiamo riconoscere l’onestà intellettuale di
queste piccole realtà editoriali ed esserne molto riconoscenti, perché Jerome David Salinger è uno dei migliori
scrittori di tutti i tempi e ora lo sa anche il New Yorker.
“Pensa positivo, ci consigliano i manuali furbi. Ma il
pensiero non muove di un millimetro la realtà e poi cosa
significa essere positivi, soltanto positivi? La pila ha un
polo negativo e uno positivo: senza non potrebbe funzionare. La notte si alterna al giorno, il sonno alla veglia;
soltanto nel buio della terra si sviluppano i semi”.
Ecco, questo piccolo e prezioso trattato edito da Chiare Lettere per la collana Feel book, non è un manuale
furbo. Mosca propone una riflessione intelligente sulla
psicologia del personaggio letterario Marlowe, l’investigatore privato protagonista dei polizieschi hard boiled
di Raymond Chandler. Attraverso la sua analisi raffinata
e piacevolmente godibile di dialoghi, scelte, azioni del
personaggio letterario creato da Chandler, Più sicuri di
sé con Raymond Chandler regala al lettore uno sguardo
sulla vita che vale la pena di prendere in considerazione.
Come un piccolo manuale, il testo è suddiviso in capitoli:
ad ognuno di essi è dedicato un insegnamento, a partire
dall’introduzione “Cadi dieci volte, rialzati undici”.
Se a far sorridere sono anche i momenti un po’ tristi, deprimenti, impacciati, fuori sincro della vita di tutti i giorni, allora
va bene così. Se a volte ci dimentichiamo come si fa, Francesco
Piccolo saprà ricordarci da che angolazione guardarla. In Momenti di trascurabile infelicità ritroviamo lo sguardo leggero
ma mai superficiale che Piccolo rivolge agli accadimenti no del
nostro quotidiano e mentre leggiamo non possiamo che sorridere e provare affetto, perché da quelle pagine sembra che lui
ci dica che ci trova simpatici, che ci vuole bene, che, infondo,
anche i nostri piccoli disastri sono solo degli spunti di comicità
a-portar-via. “Quando a casa mi dicono che non posso usare
quello shampoo – che significa che è troppo buono per me”
“Quando mi dicono: ti potevi vestire meglio. E io mi ero già
vestito meglio” E poi “quando ti fanno i complimenti per il libro e ti dicono che è molto meglio di quello precedente , e non
ti spiegano perché è bello questo ma perché è brutto quello
precedente” ma noi a Piccolo questa piccola infelicità non glie
la possiamo proprio dare, perché ci è piaciuto questo tanto
quanto quello precedente.
Torna Massimo Carlotto con il suo attesissimo noir che
vede protagonisti l’Alligatore, l’investigatore Marco Buratti, e Giorgio Pellegrini, personaggi letterari che abbiamo già conosciuto nei suoi precedenti libri. Il caso ruota
attorno alla misteriosa scomparsa di un uomo, Guido di
Lello, un professore universitario.
La tensione, il torbido della vicenda e delle esistenze che
ne sono protagoniste, emerge pagina dopo pagina. Più
le indagini dell’Alligatore scavano, più l’oscuro prende
luce, aggiungendo violenza alla violenza, pericolo al pericolo e la perversione diventa sinonimo di autenticità.
Uno scontro di mondi quello tra Buratti e Pellegrini, il
primo conosce l’illegalità, le complicate contraddizioni
dell’essere umano, ma sceglie di vivere seguendo la regola del rispetto, rispetto tout court, anche delle realtà più
discutibili, mentre Pellegrini è un sadico che non riconosce l’Altro e che porta avanti l’affermazione di sé attraverso il controllo sugli altri e la loro umiliazione. Uno
scontro in cui forse non vincerà nessuno.

unpublished stories from the extraordinary Jerome David
Salinger: The Young Folks, Go See Eddie, Once a Week Won’t
Kill You. Known mostly for his novel The Catcher in the Rye,
it is the short stories that characterise his literary productions.
A flat style, a limpidly cynical outlook and dry writing that has
marked a turning point in contemporary American literature.
We are at the beginning of World War II when Salinger is an
ambitious young man who stubbornly wants to be published
by the New Yorker with the firm conviction of being a great
writer. He was right, but the New Yorker did not recognise
him right away. In 1940 it was the small Story magazine that
published The Young Folks. Go See Eddie was released from a
university comic. So, we must recognise the intellectual honesty
of these small publishing houses and be very grateful, because Jerome David Salinger is one of the best writers of all time, and
now acknowledged as such even by the New Yorker.
“Think positive, recommend smart manuals. But thought does
not move reality by an inch, and what does being positive actually mean, only positive? Batteries have a negative and a positive pole: without they would not work. Night changes into day
sleep to waking, only in the dark of the earth seeds grow”. This
small and valuable extract published by Chiare Lettere for the
Feel book, is not a smart manual. Mosca proposes an intelligent
reflection on the psychology of the literary character Marlowe,
the private investigator protagonist of the hard-boiled detective
stories by Raymond Chandler. Through his refined analysis and
pleasantly enjoyable dialogues, choices and actions of the literary
character created by Chandler, Più sicuri di sé con Raymond
Chandler (More self assured with Raymond Chandler) gives
the reader a glimpse of a life that is worth considering. Like a
small manual, the text is divided into chapters: each of them has
a dedicated teaching, starting from the introduction “Fall ten
times, get up eleven”.
If you can also smile at sad, depressive, clumsy, out of sink moments in life, then it is ok. If at times we forget how to, Francesco

feels like he is telling us that we are great, that he loves us, and
that deep down even our small disasters are fun moments to remember.

“When they tell me: you could have dressed better. I was already
dressed my best” To add “When they compliment you for the book
and tell you it is so much better than the last without telling you
why” but we cannot give this small unhappiness to Piccolo, because we liked this book just as much as the last.
Massimo Carlotti is back with his long awaited noir that sees as
main characters the Alligator, the investigator Marco Buratti
and Giorgio Pellegrini, characters that we have already met
in his previous books. The case revolves around the mysterious
disappearance of a man, Guido Di Lello, a university professor.
The tension, the happenings and the lives of the protagonists,
emerge page after page. The more that the Alligator’s investigations dig deep, the more obscure ideas take light, adding violence
to violence, danger to danger and perversion becoming synonym
of authenticity.
A clash of worlds between Buratti and Pellegrini, the first is
aware of illegalness, the complicated contradictions of human
beings, but chooses to live by the rules of respect, tout court, even
for the most questionable realities, while Pellegrini is a sadist
which does not recognise the other and carries on self-affirmation through control over others and their humiliation. A clash
in which perhaps no one will win.

Dopo il successo ottenuto con La Grande Bellezza, il regista campano sceglie un cast e una produzione internazionali per il suo nuovo film girato in
lingua inglese. La maggior parte delle scene è ambientata sulle Alpi svizzere dove, in un’atmosfera
sospesa e talvolta surreale, due ottuagenari amici
di vecchia data villeggiano in un lussuoso hotel discorrendo del loro passato, dei loro progetti e del
futuro piuttosto incerto dei propri figli. A Fred, un
elegante direttore d’orchestra in principe di Galles che da tempo si è ritirato dalle scene, viene offerto di dirigere un concerto a Buckingham Palace
in occasione del compleanno del principe Filippo.
Al contrario, Mick è un regista ancora nel pieno
dell’attività, anche se per il suo ultimo progetto ha
incontrato numerosi ostacoli che hanno rallentato il lavoro di sceneggiatura.

After the success of The Great Beauty, the director from
the Campania region has chosen an international cast
and production for his new film filmed in English. Most
of the scenes are set in the Swiss Alps, where in a suspended and sometimes surreal atmosphere two 80 year
old friends enjoy skiing in a luxury hotel talking about
their past, their projects and the rather uncertain future
of their children. Fred, once an elegant orchestra conductor in the Prince of Wales has long been retired from the
scene, but is offered to conduct a concert at Buckingham
Palace for the occasion of the birthday of Prince Philip.
Contrasting, Mick still works hard as a director, although for his latest project he encountered numerous obstacles that slowed down the screenplay.
“The film looks like a return to Sorrentino’s key themes:
advancing age, art and desire” wrote Ben BeaumontThomas in the Guardian, reminding us of other films
by the filmmaker such as The consequences of Love or

Ci sono popstar che non hanno ancora raggiunto la
maggiore età, e poi ci sono i Toto, che possono vantare
38 anni di esperienza musicale. Dopo quasi dieci anni
dall’ultimo disco di inediti, la band di Los Angeles ritorna con Toto XIV, un ammiccare a quel Toto IV del 1982
che, con pezzi come “Rosanna” e “Africa”, ha portato
il gruppo nell’Olimpo della Musica. Toto XIV ricorda
a tutti come e perché Steve Lukather e soci siano tra i
fondatori del genere: dal progressive al melodic pop, dal
jazz al blues – impacchettati come sempre in un sound
godibile e radioso – la tracklist non si fa mancare niente. “Orphan” ha nelle sue corde un’esplosività melodica
assolutamente ballabile, mentre “Holy War” è un pezzo
Toto da manuale, capace di consegnare con semplicità e
contagiosa immediatezza un lavoro musicale minuzioso
ed estremamente tecnico.
La cultura della scena rave condensata in uno dei
gruppi big beat che dagli anni ’90 continuano a dettare legge in merito. I The Prodigy lanciano sulla scena
un disco graffiante e fedele al sound che spazza ogni
dubbio sulla possibilità che il trio britannico potesse aver perso terreno negli ultimi anni: The Day Is
My Enemy, la title track, è un pezzo tanto industrial
quanto violento, di quelli che si infilano sotto la pelle.
Ed è anche il manifesto di un album che è pura energia
e aggressione ritmica: il singolo “Nasty” corre come un
treno, sugli stessi binari di quella Firestarter del 1996.
Ogni traccia va a toccare quella vena che dalla scena
underground ha portato linfa vitale ai The Prodigy:
dalla techno in Destroy, passando per la dance rock di
Wall of Death, fino ad arrivare al dubstep in Invisible
Sun.
In questo album di Lorenzo Cherubini, alias Jovanotti, ci sono 30 canzoni. Basta questo per capire che Lorenzo 2015 cc non è un disco come gli altri. Una varietà
di stili che si avvicina molto al quel Lorenzo 1997 che
ha fatto decollare la carriera del cantautore romano.
Il risultato è un album che è un piccolo “Bignami Jovanottiano”, non di certo pensato per essere ascoltato
tutto d’un fiato: dal Lorenzo rapper, a quello dance,
a quello un po’ naïf e un po’ pop, sta a chi ascolta trovare una personale chiave di lettura e selezionare la
propria playlist tra la variegata offerta del disco. Variegata come “All The People”, dove ritroviamo quel
Jovanotti “World Music” che shakera lingue e luoghi,
mentre in “L’Estate Addosso” viene fuori tutta la sua
genuina spensieratezza e in “Una Scintilla” pulsa una
vena glamour ed elettro-pop.
There are pop stars who have not even yet come of age,
and then there the likes of Toto, who can boast 38 years
of musical experience. After almost ten years since their
last album, the Los Angeles band returns with Toto XIV,
a follow on to the Toto IV of 1982 which had pieces like
“Rosanna” and “Africa” and led the group to the Olympus
of Music. Toto XIV is a reminder of how and why Steve Lukather and members are among the founders of this
genre: from progressive to melodic pop, from jazz to blues
- packed as always with an enjoyable and radiant sound

law of this genre. The Prodigy launch on the scene a
hard tune faithful to the sound that sweeps all doubts
over whether the British trio could have lost ground in
recent years: “The Day Is My Enemy” , the title track,
is a piece as much industrial as violent, one of those
that get under the skin. It is also the manifestation of
an album that is pure rhythmic energy and aggression:
the single “Nasty” runs like a train on the same track
as Firestarter in 1996. Each track touches that vein
from the underground scene that has led to vital life
for the Prodigy: from techno in “Destroy”, through to
rock dance of “Wall of Death”, right up to the dubstep
in “Invisible Sun”.
In this album by Lorenzo Cherubini, aka Jovanotti, there
are 30 songs, enough to understand that Lorenzo 2015 cc is
not an album like all others. A variety of styles that is close
to the Lorenzo of 1997 which launched the career of the Roman singer. The result, an album that is a small ‘Bignami
Jovanottiano’, certainly not meant to be listened to in one
breath: from rapper Lorenzo, to dance Lorenzo, to the little
naive and a little pop Lorenzo, it's up to the listener to find
a personal interpretation and select the favourite playlist
between the varied range on the disc. Varied as “All The People”, where we find the Jovanotti of “World Music” which
shakes languages and places, while in “L’Estate Addosso”
(Summer on My Skin) all his genuine care freeness comes
out and in “Una Scintilla” (A Spark) beats a glamorous and
electro-pop vein.

UNA GUIDA RAPIDA PER AIUTARE
IL PASSEGGERO
Per proteggervi contro la nuova minaccia derivante dagli esplosivi liquidi, l’Unione
Europea ha adottato nuove regole di sicurezza che limitano le quantità di liquidi
che possono essere introdotti nelle aree sterili. Tali regole si applicano nei confronti
tutti i passeggeri in partenza dagli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea verso qualsiasi
destinazione.
Ciò significa che ai controlli di sicurezza, il passeggero e il relativo bagaglio a mano
devono essere controllati per verificare la presenza di liquidi. Comunque, le nuove
regole non limitano la quantità di liquidi che possono essere acquistati presso gli
esercizi commerciali situati oltre il punto di controllo del titolo di viaggio od a bordo
di un aeromobile di compagnia appartenente all’Unione Europea.
Le nuove regole si applicano a partire da lunedì 6 novembre 2006, in tutti gli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea, in Norvegia, Islanda e Svizzera a meno di eventuali
modifiche.
A SHORT GUIDE TO HELP YOU
To protect you against the new threat of liquid explosives, the European Union
(EU) introduced new security rules to limit the amount of liquids that you can take
through security checkpoints. They apply to all passengers departing from EU airports to all destinations.
This means that, at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage must be
inspected for liquids screening in addition to other prohibited articles. However,
the new rules do not limit the liquids that you can buy at shops located beyond
the checkpoints.
The new rules are in force as to Monday 6th November 2006 at all airports in the
EU and in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland until further notice.

Jet Lag
Il vostro “orologio biologico” può a volte non gradire i cambi di fuso legati
al viaggio aereo: senso di affaticamento, difficoltà a prendere sonno e riduzione dell’appetito sono tra i sintomi più comuni. Per minimizzare l’impatto
di tale fenomeno, si consiglia di dormire bene la notte prima del volo e di
mantenere le proprie “lancette biologiche” sull’orario di casa se la permanenza nel luogo di destinazione non dovesse superare i due giorni. In caso

Sometimes you “biological clock” may not welcome the time changes involved in air travel and it finds ways of letting you know about this. Some
of the most common symptoms are a sense of weariness, difficulty in falling
asleep at night and appetite loss. To minimize jet lag effects, make sure
you get a good night sleep before leaving and, if you plan to stay abroad
less than two days, keep you biological clock set on your home time (i.e.
keep your regular eating and sleeping habits). In the event of a longer trip,
it is advisable to get used to local time as soon as possible and to conduct
a regular and healthy life. Remember that getting over jet lag is generally
quicker when travelling westwards than eastwards.

To help you feel better when you fly with us, just follow these
tips and suggestions designed to enhance your well being on
board
Stare a lungo seduti in una stessa posizione può farvi sentire a
disagio sull’aereo. Sgranchitevi gambe e braccia ogni due ore
circa. Alzatevi di tanto in tanto e camminate su e giù per il corridoio oppure fate i semplici esercizi* di stretching illustrati per
prevenire problemi circolatori.
Prolonged sitting in a fixed position can make you feel uncomfortable in the plane. Every few hours, stretch your arms and legs
or carry out some easy exercises* suggested below.
Consumate pasti leggeri, mangiate con moderazione e limitare
bevande gassate, tè e caffè.
Eat a light meal and moderate you intake of fizzy drinks, tea and
coffee.
Bevete molta acqua naturale, meglio se in piccole quantità e
spesso.
Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
Moderate il consumo di bevande alcoliche, poiché queste sono
assorbite più facilmente dal corpo ad alta quota a causa della
bassa pressione dell’aria all’interno della cabina.
Moderate your intake of alcohol.
In caso di permanenza prolungata a bordo è consigliato sostituire le lenti a contatto con degli occhiali per evitare irritazioni
oculari. Togliete sempre le lenti a contatto prima di dormire.
In case of a long flight it is recommended to wear eyeglasses
rather than contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before sleeping.
*Vi suggeriamo di sospendere immediatamente questi esercizi
se causano dolore o disagio.

you feel pain or discomfort.

Iniziate gli esercizi stando seduti in modo comodo ed eretto.
Start the exercise by sitting in comfortably in your seat in an upright position.

Poggiate entrambi i piedi sul pavimento. Flettete i piedi puntando i talloni in su e poi in giù. Ripetete per cinque volte.
Rest both feet on the floor. Flex both feet with toes pointing
upward, then point your toes downward Perform this exercise
five times.

Sollevate dolcemente il ginocchio verso il busto per alcuni secondi, poi lasciatelo andare, poggiando nuovamente il piede
sul pavimento. Fate lo stesso con l’altra gamba. Ripetete cinque
volte per gamba.
Raise you knee gently towards the chest for a few seconds and
then release, placing your feet back on the floor. Continue with
the other leg. Repeat five times for each leg.

Mettete le mani sotto una coscia e sollevatele dolcemente verso il busto. Ruotate la caviglia in modo circolare per 5 secondi.
Ripetete con l’altra gamba. Ripetete questo esercizio cinque
volte per gamba.
Place your hands under one thigh, and gently lift toward your
chest. Rotate your ankle in a circular motion for 5 seconds. Repeat with the other leg. Perform this exercise five times with
both legs.
