Una zona living proiettata nella modernità, tra originalità formale e atmosfere
notturne. Sullo sfondo della parete attrezzata Wall System caratterizzata
dagli inserti attrezzati, il divano Park di
Carlo Colombo diventa protagonista assoluto: una proposta dalla forte valenza
espressiva, definita dalla base strutturale in alluminio. Il sistema di sedute
prevede, oltre agli elementi ad angolo,
pouf e chaise longue, quattro diverse tipologie di braccioli (nel particolare a
fianco, il bracciolo largo) e una serie di
tavoli bassi. La scelta dei complementi
rivela uno stile eclettico, aperto alle influenze etniche del tavolino Cheese di
Paola Navone, in alluminio spazzolato,
così come alle geometrie primarie di
Martì, un progetto di Giampiero Peia,
che interpreta un materiale contemporaneo come il DuPont Corian in un’estetica dalla massima essenzialità.
La poltrona Gaston, design Vincent Van
Duysen, è un progetto preciso, dalle
forme rigorose, che non trascura le necessarie esigenze del comfort.

A living area focused on modernity,
among formal originality and night-time
atmospheres. On the background a wall
equipped with Wall System and characterized by the open elements, the Park
sofa of Carlo Colombo becomes the absolute protagonist: a proposal of strong
expressive value, defined by the structural base in aluminium. The seating system foresees, besides the corner
elements, pouf and chaise longue, four
different typologies of arms (detail of the
wide arm beside) and a collection of coffee tables. The choice of the complements reveals a versatile style, open to
the ethnic influences of the Cheese coffee
table of Paola Navone, in brilliant aluminium, and the primary geometries of
Martì, a project of Giampiero Peia, that
interprets a contemporary material like
the DuPont Corian with an aesthetical
aspect of maximum essentiality.
The Gaston armchair, design Vincent
Van Duysen, is a precise project with rigorous shapes, that concentrates on the
necessary needs of comfort.

In giro per il mondo alla ricerca di climi
miti, lusso e mondanità: si parte dalla
California con Santa Monica e Malibù,
per poi spostarsi sulla costa opposta a
Miami e sull’isola caraibica di St Barth.
Quando le distanze non sono un problema perchè volare da un continente all’altro è un’esperienza normale, in
Sudamerica le tappe obbligate sono Buzios in Brasile e Punta del Este in Uruguay. In Oriente la mecca del turismo
internazionale resta l’isola di Bali, affiancata da Phuket in Thailandia.
Ma se la crociera a bordo di yacht privati
rappresenta l’idea di vacanza più ambita
e prestigiosa, allora il luogo ideale resta
il Mediterraneo che, nella stagione estiva,
condensa la massima concentrazione di
località esclusive. Da Ibiza, nelle isole Baleari, alla Costa Azzurra, fino alle irrinunciabili tappe italiane: Portofino, Capri
e Positano. Una sosta in Costa Smeralda
in Sardegna è senz’altro garanzia di puro
divertimento in uno tra i mari più trasparenti del pianeta, un primato conteso con
Mykonos, nel mare Egeo.
When searching for mild climates, luxury
and high society around the world start
from Santa Monica in California and
move to the opposite coast of Miami and
on the Caribbean island of St Barth. When
the distances are not a problem because
flying from a continent to the other one is
a normal experience, the forced stops in
South America are Buzios in Brazil and
Punta del Este in Uruguay. In the East, the
mecca of the international tourism remains the island of Bali, near Phuket in
Thailand. But if a cruise on board of a private yacht represents the most aspired and
prestigious idea of holidays, then the ideal
place remains the Mediterranean Sea that
has the maximum concentration of exclusive places in the summer season.
From Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands, to the
French Riviera, up to the indispensabile
Italian stops: Portofino, Capri and Positano. A break in Costa Smeralda in Sardinia is a sure guarantee of pure fun in
one among the most transparent seas of

Geometria pura e forme armoniche, naturali, dalle forti suggestioni. Contrari
apparenti in armonia, per uno stile che
rispecchia tutta la varietà dell’esperienza contemporanea.
Carlo Colombo firma la zona living, con
la madia Free caratterizzata dalla massima essenzialità del disegno: superfici
assolute, prive di maniglie e scandite dal
ritmo visivo delle diverse configurazioni
delle ante. L’esplorazione di differenti
ispirazioni stilistiche del designer prosegue all’insegna della varietà, dalla semplicità delle sedie Strip alla sorprendente originalità del tavolo Air: linee
pure, quasi oniriche, rese possibili dai
nuovi materiali ad alta tecnologia come
il cristalplant.
L’innovazione incontra la creatività più
libera anche nella poltroncina Venus di
Marcel Wanders, che interpreta il tema
della seduta monoscocca come punto
d’incontro fra l’essenzialità del design
razionalista e decori neobarocchi, in un
linguaggio formale di grande originalità
espressiva.

Pure geometry, harmonic and natural
shapes of strong suggestions. Visible contraries are in harmony, for a style that
reflects the whole variety of the contemporary experience.
Carlo Colombo signs the living area,
with the Free sideboard characterized
by the maximum essentiality of the drawing: absolute surfaces, without handles and subdivided by the visual effect
of the different configurations of the
doors. The exploration of different stylistic inspirations of the designer continues to concentrate on variety, from the
simplicity of the Strip chair to the amazing originality of the Air table: pure
lines, almost dreamlike, made possible
thanks to the new high technological
materials like the cristalplant.
The innovation meets the free creativeness also in the Venus armchair of Marcel
Wanders, which interprets the theme of
the mono-body seating like a meeting
point among rational essential design
and neo-baroque decors, in a formal language of great expressive originality.

Icona pop dei nostri tempi, simbolo dei
sogni effimeri, forse la collina più fotografata del mondo: è il monte Lee, poco più
di 500 metri d’altezza, sul cui versante
sud sorge l’Hollywood Sign. La scritta
originale, che era più lunga e diceva
“Hollywoodland”, fu inaugurata il 13 luglio 1923: commissionata dall’agenzia
proprietaria del terreno, costò 21.000 dollari dell’epoca ed era destinata, nei programmi, ad essere smontata dopo 18
mesi. Nel 1940 la camera di commercio
di Hollywood se ne fece carico, restaurando la scritta e facendo eliminare le
quattro lettere finali. Nel 1978, con una
grande campagna, molte celebrità contribuirono a realizzare una nuova versione
della scritta, donando ognuno una singola lettera al prezzo di 27.777 dollari.
L’originale non fu distrutto, come pensarono in molti, ma messo in un magazzino
dove fu ritrovato e comprato nel 2007 da
un famoso collezionista. Una curiosità:
nel 1978, la rock star Alice Cooper donò
l’ultima “o” della scritta con la postilla:
“in ricordo di Groucho Marx”.
Pop icon of our times, symbol of the ephemeral dreams, perhaps the most photographed hill of the world: it is the Lee mount,
little more than 500 meters high, on which
rises the Hollywood Sign on the south hillside. The original writing, that was longer and said "Hollywoodland", has been
inaugurated on July 13th, 1923: it was
ordered by the agency owner of the
ground, had a cost of 21.000 dollars at
that time and was destined to be dismantled after 18 months. In the 1940s the
Chamber of commerce of Hollywood became responsible, restored the writing and
removed the four final letters. In 1978,
thanks to a big campaign, a lot of celebrities contributed to realize a new version
of the writing, donating each a single letter for a price of 27.777 dollars. The original one was not destroyed, as many
thought, but was put in a warehouse
where it was found again and bought in
2007 by a famous collector. A curiosity: in

Dream di Marcel Wanders è un vero e
proprio sistema per la zona notte che
comprende letto tessile e una serie di contenitori: i pannelli imbottiti della testata
possono assumere diverse configurazioni,
per comporre un’idea di morbidezza che
si declina lungo le pareti, valorizzando
tessuti e disegni.
Il letto Onda, design Paolo Piva, pone
l’accento sui materiali e sulle sensazioni.
Un segno semplice, immediato, impreziosito dalla lavorazione capitonné del rivestimento, disponibile in pelle o tessuto.
Big Bug di Paola Navone è una poltrona oversize, da vivere come una
chaise longue. Una vera isola del relax,
dalle forme morbide e rassicuranti. Presenza ideale in spazi ampi, in cui è richiesta una forte presenza scenica.

the interpretation of increasingly individual conceptions, to create an exclusive style.
Dream of Marcel Wanders is a real system for the night area that includes
textile bed and a collection of chest of
drawers: the upholstered panels of the
headboard can assume different configurations, creating an idea of softness
and can be extended along the walls highlighting the fabrics and drawings.
The Onda bed, design Paolo Piva, focuses
on the materials and on the sensations.
A simple, immediate mark embellished
by the quilted finishing of the covering,
available in leather or fabric.
Big Bug of Paola Navone is an oversize
armchair, to use as a chaise longue. A
real island of relax, with soft and reassuring shapes. Ideal presence in wide

Se è martedì sera, il locale dove darsi appuntamento a Hollywood è The Room.
Fino a poco tempo fa l’entrata era su un
vicolo, dietro un edificio anonimo. Non si
fa pubblicità e non ha nemmeno l’insegna
perchè, dicono i regulars, “you’re supposed to know”. La musica è fra le migliori
di L.A. e l’atmosfera è rilassata e amichevole, fra talenti emergenti, modelle e locals. Per chi preferisce iniziare la serata
con un drink, The Frolic Room è il posto
giusto. Da lì ci si sposta all’Avalon, uno
dei ritrovi più a la page del momento. È
qui che fanno tappa i tour delle band più
attese, e dopo il concerto entrano in
azione i DJ fino all’alba. Per respirare in
pieno l’atmosfera di Hollywood, è d’obbligo una puntata allo Sky Bar, dove ci si
rilassa lungo la piscina all’aperto dell’Hotel Mondrian, ammirando il panorama
della città notturna. Altro luogo cult è la
Polo Lounge del Beverly Hills Hotel,
punto di incontro per agenti e produttori.
Nelle parole di una sua assidua frequentatrice, “si respira l’atmosfera dei grandi
affari, passati e presenti”.
If it is Tuesday evening, the place to be in
Hollywood is The Room. Until recently the
entrance was in an alley, behind an anonymous building. There isn’t even the sign
because, the regulars say, "you're supposed to know." The music is among the best
of L.A. and the atmosphere is relaxed and
friendly among emergent talents, models
and locals. For the one who prefer to begin
the evening with a drink, The Frolic Room
is the correct place. From there you can
move to the Avalon, one of the most renowned meeting points at the moment. It
is here that the most attended tours stop;
after the concert the DJs enter in action up
to the dawn. To fully breathe the atmosphere of Hollywood, it is mandatory to go
to the Sky Bar, where it is possible to relax
along the open air swimming pool of the
Hotel Mondrian, admiring the panorama
of the night-time city. Other cult place is
the Polo Lounge of the Beverly Hills Hotel,
meeting place for agents and producers.
Here the words of one of its assiduous frequenter: "you can breath the atmosphere
of the big businesses, pasts and presents”.

sue freeways. Una cosa è certa: a L.A. il
divertimento ha mille volti diversi. Ecco
allora una piccola guida ai locali più
trendy, dove è possibile anche incontrare
le star del momento. Si comincia con il
Vanguard: il suo biglietto da visita è una
pista di oltre 6000 metri quadri, ma come
tutte le discoteche di L.A. ha anche una
sala VIP. Serate migliori: mercoledì con il
drum and bass internazionale, giovedì
con i DJ locali e sabato con house e techno, fino all’alba. Per chi cerca i dancefloor più esclusivi, il LAX (ispirato nel
tema all’aeroporto) e il Garden of Eden
sono le mete preferite: stile ricercato, ingresso selezionatissimo e pubblico composto quasi esclusivamente da atleti e
celebrità. In stile più low key, le varie
piste dell’A.D. spaziano su tutti i generi:
funk, house, hip-hop, disco e 80s. Il famoso Viper Room, ispirato nello stile ad
un jazz club degli anni ‘20, alterna musica mixata con concerti a sorpresa delle
più famose star internazionali.

scene in Los Angeles is even more complicated than its freeways. Here is a small
guide to the more trendy places, where it
is also possible to meet the stars of the moment. You start with the Vanguard: its business card is a dance floor of over 6000
square meters, but like all the discotheques of L.A. it also has a VIP room. Best
evenings: Wednesday with the drum and
international bass and Saturday with
house and techno, up to the dawn. For the
one who look for the most exclusive dance
floors, the LAX (inspired by the theme of
the airport) and the Garden of Eden are
the preferred destinations: refined style,
selection at the entrance and public composed almost exclusively of athletes and
celebrities. You can find a more low key
style on the various dance floors of the
A.D., which range over all kind of music:
funk, house, hip-hop, disco and 80s. The
famous Viper Room, inspired in the style
of a jazz club of the 1920’, alternates
mixed music with surprise concerts of the
most famous international stars.

Uno stile di vita libero, informale, in cui

A free and informal lifestyle, in which
modern and sophisticated habits coexist
with a wish for spontaneity and naturalness. An architectonic project that foresees wide glass windows designed to
favour a constant relationship with the
landscape. The furnishing choice, from
lacquers to fabrics, privileges the absolute white as a neutral and bright background, in which the lively colours of
accessories and objects do emerge, as in
the case of the Wall System bookcase.
Carlo Colombo’s Sintesi system composition combines the ground and wall
containers with a desk-top, in a solution
that reflects a use-typology close to the
most contemporary habits. The contrast
between neutrality and force of the colour goes on with the Bali armchairs’
originality, designed by Carlo Colombo.

of a living area designed in the name of

Il Giappone fra social network e tradizioni: come cambiano le abitudini nell’epoca di Skype? Per esempio, il rito del
“nomikai”, quasi un equivalente del nostro aperitivo, oggi si svolge anche online,
con una webcam e un avatar: virtual
drinking. I sushi bar invitano i clienti al
passaparola attraverso il più diffuso network di messaggistica. Una catena di ristoranti offre sconti agli avventori che
messaggiano alla propria contact list le
loro impressioni sulla cena: maggiore il
numero di contatti, maggiore lo sconto.
Ma c’è una realtà tutta giapponese che a
quanto pare potrebbe mettere in difficoltà
i network internazionali: utilizzata soprattutto dalle ragazze, può già vantare
endorsers celebri come modelle e cantanti
pop. Cosa offre in più? La possibilità di
inserire nei testi le “emoji”, ovvero le faccine emoticon, per ora ancora escluse dal
grande concorrente americano: la passione tutta giapponese per il “kawaii”
(tutto ciò che è carino, di diretta discendenza manga) ha trovato la propria dimensione anche nel mondo digitale.
Japan in-between social networks and
traditions: how are habits changing in
the Skype age? For instance, the “nomikai” ritual, almost an equivalent of our
aperitif, today also occurs online, by
using a webcam and an avatar: virtual
drinking. Sushi bars invite to pass the
word through the most popular messaging network. A restaurant chain offers
discounts to those customers that inform
their contact list about their impressions
on the dinner: the highest the contact
number is, the highest the discount. Yet
there is an all Japanese network that apparently might embarrass the international networks, used above all by the girls,
it can already boast famous endorsers
such as models and pop singers. What
does it offer more? The opportunity of inserting the ‘emojis’ into the texts, i.e. the
emoticon small faces, at present still excluded by the big US competitors: the all
Japanese passion for the ‘Kawaii’ (everything that is nice, directly descending
from the mangas) found its own dimension in the digital world as well.

Uno stile solo in apparenza senza regole, che sa coniugare semplicità e originalità, leggerezza e praticità. Il living,
la zona pranzo, l’area relax: ambienti

proporzioni eccezionalmente ampie, in
equilibrio fra semplicità del disegno e
sottili rimandi etnici: gli stessi che si ritrovano nel tavolino Basso, altra proposta firmata da Paola Navone così come
il tavolino Vulcano, caratterizzato da un
design semplice, ma dotato di una forte
personalità.

A style that is just apparently unregulated, combining simplicity and originality, lightness and practicality. The living
and the dining rooms, the relax area:
environments dominated by the light
and by the white, in which inserts of primary colours fit in. The absolute protagonist of the living area, against a big
equipped Wall System, is the Airport
sofa by Paola Navone, complete with the
respective pouf. A primary shape with
exceptionally wide proportions, keeping
its balance between a simple design and
subtle ethnical cross-references: the
same can be found in the Basso coffee

una propria storia. Harajuku è il luogo
in cui la street fashion incontra la performance: erede della tradizione del Takenokozoku, la versione giapponese della

Uno dei piaceri delle tavole estive è
senza alcun dubbio la fresca e dissetante anguria. È un frutto dalla polpa
croccante, di un colore che può essere
più o meno rosso e dalla buccia di un
colore verde scuro molto resistente.
Ricca d’acqua e fruttosio, l’anguria
contiene anche una grande varietà di
vitamine, e grazie alla sua composizione, l’anguria è un frutto fortemente
ipocalorico.
Per preparare il gelo d’anguria, frullate
l’anguria, passatela per eliminare tutti
i semi e conditela con 4 cucchiai di zucchero. Mettete metà del composto in frigorifero e metà in una casseruola con
l’agar-agar, portate a ebollizione e
dopo 1 minuto spegnete.
Aggiungete il succo fatto raffreddare e
il limone spremuto, mescolate e versate
in una stampo rettangolare.
Riponete il composto in frigorifero e lasciatecelo per 1 ora.
Al momento di servire, tagliate l’anguria fresca a fette sottilissime, squadra-
tele e appoggiatele sui piatti da portata.
Sformate il gelo, tagliatelo a fette spesse
e presentatelo sull’anguria fresca decorando con qualche petalo di fiore.
One of the pleasures of the table during
summer is without any doubt the fresh
and thirst-quenching watermelon.
It is a fruit with a crispy pulp, of a more
or less strong red colour and with a
dark green coloured and very resistant
peel. The watermelon is rich of water
and fructose, and also contains a great
variety of vitamins.
Thanks to its composition, the watermelon is a highly hypocaloric fruit.
To prepare the frozen watermelon,
shake the watermelon, sift it in order to
remove the seeds and season it with 4
spoons of sugar.
Put half of the mixture into the refrigerator and half in a casserole with the
agar-agar powder, bring to ebullition
and turn-off after 1 minute.
Add the cooled juice and the squeezed
lemon, mix and put in a rectangular
mould. Put back the mixture into the
refrigerator and leave it there for another hour. When serving, cut the fresh
watermelon to thin slices, square them
and lay them on the plates.
Remove the frozen watermelon from
the mould, cut it to thick slices and
serve it above the fresh watermelon decorating with some flower petal.

curiosa riguarda le onnipresenti macchine
distributrici di bibite agli angoli delle
strade: in Giappone sono più di 2 milioni.
Un’azienda ne sta sviluppando un prototipo “verde”, in grado di funzionare con
l’energia solare e, per garantirne l’isolamento termico in inverno, è stato rivestito...
da un tenero manto d’erba! L’energia solare è la grande scommessa anche per i
gadget elettronici: sono in vendita dei
mini pannelli solari, grandi come un portatile, che possono essere utilizzati per ricaricare telefonini, computer e ipod. La
sfida dei designer è produrre oggetti di
grande appeal con materiali riciclati: uno
dei più diffusi brand di scarpe e borse per
giovani ha introdotto una linea assolutamente cutting edge, prodotta utilizzando
pneumatici usati. Anche il packaging si
evolve: una marca di acqua ha rinnovato
la propria bottiglia, progettata per essere
facilmente compressa, dopo l’uso, in un
blocchetto di plastica di appena 12 grammi.
A Japanese online magazine has recently drawn up a mini-ranking of the best
ecological innovations. The most curious one regards the omnipresent beverage dispensers at the street corners: in
Japan they are more than 2 millions. A
company is developing a “green” prototype capable of working with solar
power and, in order to ensure its thermal insulation in Winter, it was covered…with a soft turf. Solar energy is a
great challenge for the electronic gadgets as well. Mini solar panels, as big as
a portable phone are on sale. They can
be used to recharge mobiles, computers
and ipods. The designers’ challenge lies
in producing highly appealing objects
with recycled materials: one of the most
widespread shoe and bag brands for the
young people has introduced an absolutely cutting-edge line, produced employing used tyres. Packaging is
evolving as well: a water brand has renewed its own bottle, designed to be easily compressed after use, into a 12
gram plastic cube.

architettonico che mira a garantire le
più importanti qualità dello spazio interno:

L’area living, a tutta altezza, è il vero
centro vitale della casa: un punto di incontro e un contenitore di storie pop, da
arricchire e reinventare continuamente.
Una geometria essenziale interpreta la
composizione giorno, con i contenitori
sospesi del sistema Sintesi di Carlo Colombo che si affiancano alla libreria
pensile Sketch disegnata da Roberto Barbieri. La libertà di interpretare momenti
e mood diversi definisce la dimensione
del comfort, con due proposte di Carlo
Colombo: il divano Shangai dalle proporzioni extralarge, con una composizione
caratterizzata dal terminale chaise-longue,
e la poltrona Bali, una presenza di grande
originalità. Rivestita in pelle, la poltrona
girevole Snake è completata dal poggiapiedi: due segni primari, dalle forti suggestioni, firmati da Roberto Lazzeroni.

A house designed to meet the needs of
young and informal users. On a 80
square meters total surface, an architectural project aiming at ensuring the most
important features of the internal space:
wideness, spaciousness, brightness. The living area, developed in height, is the house’s real vital center: a meeting point and
a container of pop stories, to be enriched
and re-created continuously. An essential
geometry interprets the day composition,
with the hanging containers of Carlo Colombo’s Sintesi system, placed side by
side with the Sketch hanging bookcase,
designed by Roberto Barbieri. The freedom of interpreting different moods and
moments defines the comfort dimension
with Carlo Colombo’s two proposals: the
Shanghai sofa with extra-large dimensions, with a composition featuring a
chaise-longue end section and the Bali
armchair, quite an original presence.
Coated with leather, the Snake revolving
armchair is completed with a footrest:
two primary signs, with strong suggestions, designed by Roberto Lazzeroni.

viaggio intorno al mondo, per seguire i
grandi festival del rock. In Inghilterra,
nomi come Reading e Glastonbury sono
sinonimo di esperienze sempre entusiasmanti, con i più grandi nomi del panorama internazionale. Gli acquazzoni dell’estate inglese sono parte integrante del
loro fascino. In Serbia, Exit nacque nel
2000 come protesta degli studenti universitari contro il regime: specializzato in techno, oggi attira oltre 200.000 persone. Il
Paredes de Coura Festival, in Portogallo,
predilige il genere alternative ed è uno dei
5 migliori festival europei. Il Nord è il territorio del rock più duro, con il Dynamo
Open Air in Olanda e il Tuska (in finlandese: “agonia”) che si tiene in un parco
nel bel mezzo di Helsinki. Menzione speciale per il Montreux Jazz Festival, dagli
ampi orizzonti musicali. Nell’edizione del
1971, durante il concerto di Frank Zappa,
il Casinò Barrière andò a fuoco. L’episodio è entrato nella storia del rock grazie
alla canzone che lo racconta con dovizia

enthusiastic experiences, with the biggest
names of the international scene. The English Summer downpours are an integral
part of their charm. In Serbia, Exit was
born in 2000 as a university students’ remonstrance against the regime: specialised in techno music, today it appeals over
200,000 people. The Paredes de Coura
Festival, in Portugal focuses on the alternative genre and it is one of the 5 best
European festivals. North is the territory
of the hardest rock, with the Dynamo
Open Air in the Netherlands and the
Tuska (in Finnish, it stands for “agony”),
and it is held in a park, in the middle of
Helsinki. A special mention for the Montreaux Jazz Festival, featuring wide musical horizons. In the 1971 edition, during
a Frank Zappa’s concert, the Casinò Barrière burned. This episode made the rock

Stati Uniti è all’insegna della varietà, con
alcuni appuntamenti decisamente originali. Per esempio il Beale Street festival
di Memphis, “the Mardi Gras of the MidSouth”, che celebra il blues in ogni sua
forma. O il festival di Conjunto a San Antonio, la musica ranchera che nasce
dall’unione fra la chitarra spagnola e la
fisarmonica della tradizione tedesca.
New Orleans a luglio ospita l’Essence festival, che raduna i più grandi nomi della
musica black, soul e hip-hop. “Where
rock lives” è invece la dichiarazione d’intenti del Rock on the Range, in Ohio. Il
Bonnaroo (slang di New Orleans per “il
massimo del divertimento”) è stato nominato miglior festival estivo dalla più importante rivista rock del mondo. La
qualità della musica è sempre garantita
al Coachella Festival, con un cartellone
che mixa abilmente nomi di primo piano
e band di culto. Interamente dedicato
all’elettronica da ballare è invece l’Ultra
Festival, che si tiene sulla spiaggia del Bicentennial Park, a Miami.
The musical event scene in the States is in
the name of variety, with some really original rendezvous. For instance the Memphis-based Beale Street Festival, “the
Mardi Gras of the Mid-South”, celebrating the blues in all of its expressions. Or
the Conjunto festival in San Antonio, the
music from the ranches, originating from
the combination of the Spanish guitar
and the accordion from the German tradition. New Orleans in July hosts the Essence Festival, gathering the greatest names
of the black, soul and hip-hop music.
“Where rock lives”on the other hand is the
mission statement of the Rock on the
Range, in Ohio. The Bonnaroo (a New
Orleans’s slang expression meaning “the
top of enjoyment”) was declared the best
Summer festival by the most important
rock magazine in the world. Music quality
is always guaranteed at the Coachella Festival, with a program nicely mixing firstrate names with cult bands. The Ultra
Festival, that is held on the Bicentennial
Park in Miami, is wholly devoted to electronic dance music, on the other hand.

Il boulgour è un alimento molto diffuso
in medio oriente. È costituito da frumento integrale, grano duro germogliato. I chicchi di frumento vengono
cotti al vapore e fatti seccare, poi vengono macinati e ridotti in piccoli pezzetti. Si trova nei negozi di alimenti
biologici e nei grandi supermercati
negli scaffali dei cibi etnici.
Ottima e validissima alternativa alla
classica insalata di riso estiva, il boulgour è anche ricco di fibre, vitamine e
sali minerali.
Cuocete il boulgour a grana piccola in
600 g di acqua per 12 minuti; scolate,
raffreddate passando sotto l’acqua corrente, sgocciolate bene e versate in una
terrina.
Unite il grosso cetriolo lavato, asciugato e grattugiato con una grattugia a
fori grossi, i pomodori perini scottati,
pelati e tagliati a dadini, il succo dei
limoni e 1 cucchiaino raso di sale.
Mescolate e fate riposare il tutto per
3-4 ore, mescolando ogni tanto.
Aggiungete 3 cucchiai da tavola di
alga nori secca, una manciata di foglie
di prezzemolo e menta tritate e 4 cucchiai di olio extravergine di oliva; lasciate riposare in frigo per un’ora e
servite.
The bulgur is a much diffused aliment
in the Middle East. It is constituted by
integral corn, budded hard wheat.
The grains of wheat are steamed and
dried, then milled and cut in small pieces. It can be found in the shops of biological food or in the ethnic food
department of big supermarkets.
The bulgur is an excellent and valid
alternative to the classical summer rice
salad and is rich of fibres, vitamins
and mineral salts.
Cook the fine-grained bulgur in 600 g.
of water for 12 minutes; drain, cool
passing under the running water, drip
well and put in a terrine.
Add the big cucumber, washed, dried
and grated with a grater with big
holes, the perini tomatoes peeled and
cut to cubes, the juice of the lemons
and 1 level teaspoonful of salt.
Mix and leave the mixture stand for 34 hours, mixing occasionally.
Add 3 tablespoons of dried Nori algae,
a handful of minced parsley and mint
leaves and 4 spoons of extra virgin
olive oil; leave the mixture to stand in
the refrigerator for an hour and serve.

La parte più intima e personale della
casa è collocata al secondo piano, separata dalle zone conviviali.
La camera da letto come rifugio in cui
dedicarsi al relax, un’idea di spazio dominato dalle sensazioni dei tessuti e da
colori che riflettono una passione per
l’arte moderna. Un dintorno di tinte
neutre, dal tappeto al laccato grafite del

The most intimate and personal section
of the house is situated on the second
floor, separated from the convivial areas.
The bedroom as a shelter where to
relax, an idea of space dominated by the
fabric sensations and by colours mirroring a passion for modern art. A surrounding of neutral shades, from the
carpet to the graphite-lacquered coffeetable Vulcano, designed by Paola Navone, contrasting with the sugar paper
shade of the bed covering and the sulphureous yellow of the night table from
the Abbinabili collection. Two interpretations of the textile bed in a contemporary key, both of them featuring a
simple design and wide upholstered surfaces: Dream, designed by Marcel Wanders is a system that enables to fancy
different interpretations, ranging from
an informal style to highly original solutions. The big upholstered headboard
and the subtle formal cross-references on
the other hand characterise Moon, Carlo
Colombo’s creation, also available in the
version with container base.

cerca un’alternativa al pop più commerciale: una realtà estremamente varia, che
si apprezza al meglio dal vivo. Nell’eccezionale varietà di proposte che caratterizza i gruppi indie (dalla musica acustica
al rock più duro), l’elemento unificante è
lo stretto rapporto con il pubblico, creato
proprio nei concerti. Ogni grande città del
mondo si è identificata in una propria
scena indie, una sorta di ritratto della cultura giovanile di quel momento: il grunge
di Seattle, lo shoegaze a Londra, il neoacoustic nelle capitali del Nord Europa.
Erede dello spirito delle garage band
americane e della massima di Joe Strummer “tre accordi e la verità”, l’indie nasce
all’inizio degli anni Ottanta, dalla ricerca
musicale di giovani che non volevano essere delle star ma che semplicemente suonavano per se stessi e per altri ragazzi
come loro. Musica di nicchia, per appassionati: la sensazione di un segreto gelosamente custodito è tuttora parte integrante del fascino di questa pop culture.
Indie: standing for “independent”. Discovering a musical culture in search of
an alternative to the most mainstream
pop: quite a various reality, that is best
appreciated live. In the exceptional variety of proposals that characterises the
indie groups (from the acoustic music to
the hardest rock), the unifying element
lies in the close relationship with the audience during the concerts. Every big city
of the world has been identified in its
own indie scene, a sort of portrait of the
juvenile culture of an age: the grunge
from Seattle, the shoegaze in London,
the new-acoustic in North European capitals. Heir of the US garage band’s spirit and of Joe Strummer’s motto “three
chords and the truth”, the indie-style
was born in the early Eighties. From the
musical research of young people who
did not want to be stars but who simply
used to play for themselves and for other
boys like them. Niche music for fans: the
sensation of a secret that is jealously kept
is still an integral part of this pop culture’s fascination.

Muziekgebouw concert hall, overlooking
the city bay, is the kingdom of transparency, with a glass façade that floods the
whole building with light. The new Bimhuis seat is also part of the ensemble:
Bimhuis is a historical jazz venue. The
Arcam as well, the centre of contemporary architecture, mirrors in the Oosterdok: it is an unmissable place for the
fans, where they can find all the information about the most interesting buildings
in the city. Many of them can be found on
the Eastern Harbour, the area beyond the
IJ river. One of the most photographed
one is the red steel bridge nicknamed Python Bridge. For an original shopping,
the area included between the Singel and
Prinsengracht proms, called “The 9 pathways” is full of small shops, coffee bars
and art galleries. Let’s not miss the Albert
Cuypmarket, the daily market where flowers are a constant presence, of course.
