Would Ludovico Mares ever have imagined that over the course of 60 years his small factory in Rapallo
would become the worldwide leader in the production and distribution of diving equipment? In 1949
Mares was founded by former Istrian diver Ludovico Mares, who served in the Austrian State Navy
during World War I.

Mares quickly became a small industrial company and in the late ‘60s, as the passion for diving grew
around the world, the company expanded into the European diving and snorkeling market.

Among the athletes there are names of international honor in the world of spearfishing that
stands out more than others. Dario Marinov, driven by perseverance and determination, has
long been the leader in world-wide spearfishing competitions. In 2008 Joseba Kerejeta and
Mares conquered the long-sought title of “World Champions” in the waters of Venezuela: a
major achievement over years of cooperation and process.
Mares’ name shines in the history of freediving, and its athletes prove it. Gianluca Genoni,
first and foremost, collected no less than 13 world records during his long career, in various
freediving disciplines, as well as applying his talent to scientific research and training. With
Christian Redl, Mares reached under the ice, finding its way in a trying environment with
record-breaking results.
The considerable experience and sportsmanship of our athletes working together with
Mares in the development of the Pure Instinct line, have come together to create top-ofthe-line equipment for all levels of use.

Dario Marinov con grande costanza e determinazione è da anni ai vertici dell’agonismo
mondiale. Joseba Kerejeta ha conquistato insieme a Mares nel 2008 l’ambito titolo di
“Campione del Mondo” nelle acque venezuelane, importante risultato raggiunto grazie
a un lungo percorso di crescita comune.
Mares ha scritto la storia dell’apnea con i record ottenuti dai suoi testimonial. Tra
questi atleti Gianluca Genoni nella sua lunga carriera ha ottenuto ben 13 record del
mondo nelle diverse discipline dell’apnea impegnandosi anche nella ricerca scientifica

to create wetsuits for the Mares Spearfishing and Freediving line
with an optimal pre-formed cut. Thanks to careful development,
Mares neoprene garments embrace different body types with perfect

Mares designed a brand-new version of the Razor Carbon fin, as result of years of
research and analysis and the resulting product is vastly superior to any carbon fin you
have seen before. Our new production line allows full control over each and every step

The fine-tuned shape of pre-impregnated 3K carbon skins are made using different

A version of the Phantom model created using a special reinforced nylon compound optimizing the gun’s technical features. This is one of our models featuring a cuttlebone barrel and
integrated shaft guide, with specific design for every barrel length, ensuring perfect buoyancy, optimum stability, and easy aim. The double-hole muzzle, handle, and barrel are singlepiece. The handle and the sternum support are lined with soft touch slip-proof material.
The highly sensitive stainless steel release mechanism is also suitable for use with strong double power sling. Phantom Speed comes complete with a full range of high-tech accessories
guaranteeing top performance levels:
- Speed shaft in 174 PH tempered stainless steel, three special high-resistance pins, lower embedded single barb, 6.5mm diameter.

A new fin with interchangeable blade.
The foot pocket is incredibly comfortable thanks to the design
developed in collaboration with a leading Italian podology
clinic.
Its shape and the extra thickness on the instep and the
tensioners under the arch have been meticulously researched
to convey the maximum amount of energy produced to the
blade, and yet it still provides complete comfort .
The variable-thickness of the blade bends during the various
phases of finning action, achieving an ideal flexion curve,
