molto frequentata Bobst SA ha presentato
due nuove piegaincollatrici per cartone
microonda e onda bassa (ma non solo), e
mostrato in funzione le ultime fustellatrici a
foglio. Con il contributo di un gruppo di
fornitori di prestigio. E.P.

iamo a Mex (vicino a Losanna, CH),
nello stabilimento assemblaggio di
Bobst SA, ovvero del gruppo leader nel settore delle macchine per le arti
grafiche, la stampa e la trasformazione
di imballaggio flessibile, cartoncino e cartone ondulato (ne fanno parte, oltre a
Bobst, Steuer, Asitrade, Martin, Rapidex,
Atlas, General, Rotomec, Schiavi e Titan).
L’occasione della visita è offerta dall’open
house organizzata nel giugno scorso, per
presentare in anteprima - accanto alle

The location was Mex (close to
Lausanne, CH), in the assembly
works of Bobst SA, leading group in
the graphic arts, print and converting
flexible packaging, board and
corrugated board machine sector
(the group comprises Bobst, Steuer,
Asitrade, Martin, Rapidex, Atlas,
General, Rotomec, Schiavi e Titan).
The chance for the visit came with
the open house organized 5th to 8th
June last to premier - alongside the
already known SPrintera 145 PER
and Mastercut diecutter - the new
Visionfold and Starfold folder-gluer
machines, designed and created to
respond to specific market needs.
TRENDS IN DEMAND
Designed to serve corrugated board
box producers, aboveall those using
micro- and low flute, the machines
demoed at Mex shared one prime
feature above all others: flexibility.
This aboveall because they are able
to process all sheet cellulose
materials used for producing
packaging with the same
effectiveness - or that is paper, flat
board, corrugates of various basis
weights and flute sizes. Also because
they are capable of creating types of
packs different in terms of shape,
format, number, corners, etc.
But the market also expresses other
demands - well highlighted by the
results of a Bobst study carried out
in 2003 on 50 customers from ten
countries - that are seen to derive,
all things considered, from the huge
growth of printed and decorated
packaging generated by the trend
to reduce overpackaging (hence

Foliostar 165 Matic - Si tratta dell’ultima accoppiatrice Asitrade
a foglio: una macchina polivalente, progettata per lavorare cartone ondulato, con spessori dell’onda dal micro al C, ma in grado di utilizzare anche cartoncino teso (a partire da circa 380 g/m2
con spessori superiori ai 0,7 mm). Inoltre, può essere dotata di
un dispositivo che realizza accoppiati di ondulato e due strati di
materiale stampato, per realizzare POP, bag in box e affini.
All’utilizzatore garantisce un’elevata produttività anche nelle tirature corte, un cambio rapido (automatico) dei lavori, una velocità elevata (150 m/min, pari a circa 9000 fogli/h), insieme alla
grande precisione e all’automatismo delle regolazioni. Il suo cuore “tecnologico” consiste nell’innovativo gruppo di applicazione colla, dotato di controlli estremamente precisi che permettono una significativa riduzione dei consumi di adesivo: fino al
36%, a seconda del tipo di materiale in macchina.
SPrintera 145 PER - Carta a partire da 80 g/m2, cartoncino fino
a 2000 g/ m2 e cartone ondulato fino a 5 mm, con formati dei fogli fra 580 x 450 e 1450 x 1050; velocità operativa superiore ai
9.500 fogli/h (ma la SPrintera 106 LER arriva fino ai 12.000), da
cui il nome Sprintera... Bastano questi dati a delineare il carattere di questa Autoplatina® di alta gamma per linee complete di lavorazione. All’open house ne sono state valorizzate la concezione modulare,
la costruzione compatta e la velocità dei cambi lavoro, effettuati senza l’ausilio di attrezzature. Per garantire queste prestazioni è stata assegnata la massima cura ai flussi - dei materiali, degli attrezzi ma
anche delle informazioni - e alla precisione del registro della stampa rispetto agli attrezzi di fustellatura, ottenuto con l’adozione di motori lineari e del
Power Register Bobst. Ne deriva, fra l’altro, una riduzione drastica (oltre il 70%) dei fermi macchina,
con una qualità garantita del 100% della produzione. Da sottolineare anche il trasporto “dolce” dei fogli, sincronizzato e controllato dal mettifoglio fino
alla stazione di ricevimento; l’ottimizzazione dei flussi dei materiali fra le varie unità di lavorazione, garantita dall’Automatic Pile Transfer di Bobst senza
l'intervento dell'operatore; l’adozione di tutti i sistemi messi a punto dal gruppo svizzero per minimizzare e semplificare il cambio lavoro.
Mastercut - Questa fustellatrice in piano si distingue a colpo
d’occhio per il design elegante e razionale, la compattezza e
l’evidente ergonomia. Dal punto di vista delle prestazioni, va anzitutto sottolineato l’incremento della velocità (+27%: la versione più potente raggiunge i 7000 m2/h) e del formato (+ 67%,
pari a 1300 x 2100 mm nel modello 2.1) per effettuare più lavori
contemporaneamente, con le conseguenti economie di tempi
e costi di produzione. Da segnalare, inoltre, la precisione del registro (anche Mastercut è equipaggiata con il Power Register),
la riduzione delle deformazioni della platina, il perfezionamento
dell’alimentazione in continuo e l’aumentata produttività (il produttore stima un +34%).

GLI ORIENTAMENTI
DELLA DOMANDA
Progettate per servire i produttori di scatole di cartone ondulato, soprattutto microonda e a onda bassa, le macchine in
demo a Mex condividono una caratteristica sopra tutte: la flessibilità. Anzitutto
perché sono in grado di trattare, con pari efficacia, tutti i
materiali cellulosici in foglio utilizzati per la produzione di imballaggio, ossia carta, cartone teso, cartone ondulato di
diverse grammature e dimensioni di onda. Inoltre perché sono capaci di realizzare
tipi di scatola diversi per forma, formato, quantità di angoli, ecc.
Oltre a queste, il mercato
esprime anche altre richieste
- ben evidenziate dai risultati
di un’inchiesta Bobst condotta nel 2003 su 50 clienti di dieci paesi - che trovano origine,
in ultima analisi, nel grande sviluppo degli imballi stampati e
decorati generato dalla tendenza a ridurre l’overpackaging (e a valorizzare, dunque, le potenzialità comunicative delle casse di cartone). In concreto, si manifesta
dunque una domanda di maggiore qualità che viene soddisfatta con la messa a
punto di macchine flessibili, ma anche ve-
loci e precise, che eliminano le “code di
pesce” (fish tailing) e il “gap”, ossia il disassamento orizzontale fra i lembi della
scatola. Macchine, inoltre, che devono essere economicamente sostenibili, facili da
usare, più accessibili agli interventi di manutenzione e meglio sanificabili.
Bobst ha così integrato la gamma di piegaincolla a marchio Alpina e Pacific, con
i due nuovi modelli, rispettivamente di fascia media e bassa, Starfold e Visionfold.
Eccone le principali caratteristiche comuni.
CODE DI PESCE ADDIO
I test condotti su cartone di onda B con
il super brevettato sistema di piegatura AccuFold (che rappresenta il cuore
di Starfold e che l’anno venturo verrà
introdotto anche sulle altre piegaincolla della Bobst) hanno evidenziato il contenimento dei fenomeni di coda di pesce entro un margine di ±1,5 mm
sull’80% delle scatole, e dei fenomeni
di gap entro ±1,5 mm sul 99% dei contenitori testati.
Questo risultato è stato ottenuto rivedendo integralmente la modalità di realizzazione della piegatura in macchina.

Bobst has added two new models
to the Alpina and Pacific brand
folder-gluer machine range,

within a margin of ± 1.5 mm out of

This result has been obtained by
totally overhauling the way of
creating the fold in the machine. If
in fact the already existing foldergluers perform simultaneous folds,
AccuFold carries out the process in
two stages, the first fold at the
prebreaker and the final fold in the
folder. In turn, the fishtailing is
reduced by rotating the blanks
twice as they travel through the

LO STATO DELL’ARTE
AccuFold riduce drasticamente gli scarti e, insieme alla larghezza del formato,
fa di Starfold un efficace strumento per
generare valore aggiunto. Ma le due
macchine sono caratterizzate anche da
altri elementi rilevanti:
• l’elettronica di punta, l’ergonomia, il sistema di trasporto particolarmente efficace. Le nuove piegaincolla sono inoltre progettate con i programmi CAD più evoluti
per garantire maggiore rigidità, robustezza e quell’isolamento dalle contaminazioni di polvere o colla che permette di ridurre
gli interventi di manutenzione;
• modularità, rapidità e semplicità di regolazione per assicurare una produzione “just-in-time”. Il risparmio di tempo avviene già in fase di alimentazione,
con il modulo Accufeed grazie al per-

THE STATE OF THE ART
AccuFold drastically reduces waste
and, along with its format width,
turns Starfold into tools for
generating added value. But the two
machines also feature other
important elements:
• leading edge electronics,
Foliostar 165 Matic - An Asitrade sheet laminator: a
polyvalent machine, designed for working
corrugated board, with flute gauges ranging from
micro to C, but also capable of using flat board
(starting from 380 g/m2 with gauges over 0.7 mm).
As well as that it can be fitted with a device that
laminates corrugate with two layers of printed
material, for creating POPs, bag in box and similar.
High productivity also ensured in short runs, a rapid
(automatic) change (150 m/min, standing at around
9000 sheets/h), along with its great accuracy and
automated setting. Its technological heart consists
in the innovatory glue application unit, fitted with
extremely accurate controls that enable a significant
reduction of adhesive consumption: up to 35%, depending
on the type of material being machined.

una serie di indicatori digitali di posizione e di motori che calcolano automaticamente il posizionamento dei moduli di
trasporto, sin dal momento in cui le dimensioni del fustellato vengono “inserite” nell’unità di controllo. Per garantire la
massima facilità d’uso, le nuove piegaincolla sono dotate di un telecomando che raggruppa tutte le funzioni di regolazione, avvio, arresto, avanzamento
intermittente, aumento e riduzione della
velocità. Una sola chiave è quindi sufficiente per effettuare tutte le regolazioni
della macchina;
• sistemi di trasporto studiati nel dettaglio. I trasportatori superiori, motorizzati
e sollevabili, sono dotati di cuscinetti di

• modularity, speed and simplicity
of adjustment to ensure a “just-intime” production. Time saving
already occurs in the feed stage,
with the Accufeed module thanks to
SPrintera 145 PER - Paper from 80 g/m2, cardboard up to
2000 g/m2 and corrugated cardboard up to 5 mm, with
sheet formats from 580 x 450 and 1450 x 1050; working
speed over 9.500 sheets/h (reaching 12.000), hence its
name SPrintera... One only needs these figures to
delineate the character of this high range Autoplaten® for
complete processing lines. At the Mex open house its
modular conception was highlighted along with its
compact construction and the speed of workchanges,
done “live” without the aid of any equipment. To guarantee
this performance max attention was given to flows - of
materials, equipment and also information - and the
accuracy of the print register compared to the diecutting
equipment, obtained with the adoption of the linear motors
and the Power Register Bobst. This among other things
leads to a drastic drop (over 70%) of machine stops, with a
guaranteed 100% quality of production.
Also worth highlighting the gentle conveying of the
sheets, synchronised and controlled by the sheet feeder
up to the receival station; optimisation of material flows
between the various processing units, guaranteed by the
Bobst Automatic Pile Transfer without operator
intervention; the adopting of all the systems devised by
the Swiss group to minimize and simplify workchange
operations.
Mastercut - This flat diecutter stands out at first glance for
its elegant and rational design, its compactness and
evident ergonomy. From the point of view of performance,
worthy of mention the increase in speed (+27%: the most
powerful version reaches 7000 m2/h) and format (+67%,
1300 x 2100 mm in the 2.1 model) to be able to carry out
more than one job at the same time, with consequent
savings in time and production costs. Worthy of note what
is more the register accuracy (Mastercut comes with
Power Register), the lesser deforming of the platen, the
perfecting of the continuous feed and the increase in
productivity (which the maker estimates at +34%).

Oltre ai tecnici, ai dirigenti e ai comunicatori del gruppo svizzero, nel
capannone che ha ospitato la dimostrazione delle macchine sono stati allestiti anche i piccoli stand dove una selezione di fornitori Bobst hanno potuto presentare i propri prodotti, valorizzando così tutte le componenti che contribuiscono a realizzare un lavoro di qualità.
Vi abbiamo incontrato l’italiana RTS, specializzata nello sviluppo di
software per l’informatizzazione dei processi aziendali nell’imballaggio
(flessibile e cartotecnica in particolare) e rappresentata da Annabella
Partisani, ma anche i responsabili tecnici e commerciali di ATS (reggiatrici), Habasit (cinghie e nastri trasportatori), Henkel (adesivi), HHS
(sistemi di controllo qualità), Hunkeler (gestione sfridi e rifiuti industriali),
Marbach (cilindri e attrezzature per la lavorazione del cartone), Nordson
(dispenser di adesivi), Plasmatreat (trattamenti superficiali). Durante un
mini-simposio, tutti hanno potuto illustrare ai convenuti gli ultimi sviluppi delle tecnologie.
Partner in quality
As well as the technicians, the managers and communicators of the
Swiss group, the warehouse structure that hosted the machine demo
also hosted a small stand where a selection of Bobst suppliers
presented their products, thus highlighting all the components that
contribute to creating quality results. There we met up with the Italian
concern RTS, specialised in developing software for computerising
packaging company processes (flexible and paper&cardboard
converting in particular) and represented by the unfailing Annabella
Partisani, but also the technical and commercial heads of ATS
(strapping machines), Habasit (belts and conveyors), Henkel
(adhesives), HHS (quality control systems), Hunkeler (management of
offcuts and industrial waste), Marbach (cylinders for converting
cardbord), Nordson (dispenser of adhesives), Plasmatreat (superficial
treatments). During a “mini-symposium”, they illustrated the latest
technological development to those present.

bearings, mounted on a highly
sturdy extruded aluminium
section, that ensures excellent
holding of blanks at the same
time mitigating ambient noise on
the shop floor;
• the machine speed has not
been affected: the most powerful
Starfold model is capable of also
making packs with four or six
corners, working up to 25,000

Checkweigher with metal detector
The Idecon (Castelbolognese, RA) WPM
checkweighing machines with integrated metal
detector can control any type of premade
packaging, thus saving on machine space.
The scan systems adopted highlight metal
contaminants with levels of sensitivity, immunity
to interference and response speed above
those demanded by the severest quality control
standards. Among other features, they enable
the intercepting of magnetic and other types of
metal, including highly resistant stainless steel.
As well as that an automatic compensation
function zeroes the interference caused by the
material inspected. The broad bandwidth of the
metal detectors guarantee the max sensitivity of
the device both at low and at high throughputs.
The management of the WPM checkweigher
and the production statistics is via a single
interface based on a userfriendly touchscreen
color display. The same interface can process
statistics, display histograms on the run of
production ad “export” production data directly
on USB memory keys.
These checkweighers are modular and thus
fitted with types of conveyors and accessories
suited for all applications. As well as that they
have been designed to satisfy demands for
cleanliness and easy maintenance, as well as to
guarantee max accuracy and weigh
repeatability.
Selezionatrici con metal detector
Le selezionatrici ponderali serie WPM con metal detector integrato della Idecon
(Castelbolognese, RA) sono in grado di controllare qualsiasi tipologia di imballaggio preconfezionato, permettendo così di contenere gli spazi occupati dalle
apparecchiature.
I sistemi di rilevazione adottati evidenziano gli eventuali contaminanti metallici con
livelli di sensibilità, immunità alle interferenze e velocità di risposta superiori a quelli richiesti dalle più severe norme sui controlli di qualità. Fra l’altro, permettono di
intercettare metalli magnetici e non, compresi gli acciai inossidabili ad alta resistività. Inoltre una funzione automatica di compensazione annulla l'interferenza
causata dal materiale ispezionato. L'ampia larghezza di banda di questi metal
detector garantisce la massima sensibilità dell’apparecchiatura sia alle basse sia alle alte velocità di transito. La gestione delle selezionatrici WPM
e dei dati statistici di produzione avviene tramite un’unica interfaccia
basata su un display a colori touch screen, molto facile da usare. La
stessa interfaccia è in grado di elaborare valori statistici, visualizzare istogrammi sull’andamento della produzione,
“esportare” direttamente i dati di produzione su
“chiavette” di memoria USB.
Queste selezionatrici sono modulari e pertanto
dotate di tipologie di trasportatori e accessori adatti ad ogni applicazione. Inoltre sono progettate
per soddisfare esigenze di pulizia e facilità di manutenzione, oltre che per garantire la massima
precisione e la ripetibilità di pesatura.
Printing flexible materials
Interface (producer of printing presses for
flexible materials for the converting industry) will
be present at CMM 2007 (4th-7th June,
Rosemont, Illinois, USA). The company supplies
high tech converting machines for stack and
central drum type systems. Among these the
Trinitry series available up to 10 colors on drum
with sleeve-based technology (devised for mid
to high quality flexo printing) featuring a modern
and versatile design favoring speedy job setting
and minimum job-change times. Other standard
accessories available include videocamera and
automatic solvent washing and control system.
Label print in India
Italian press manufacturer Gidue SpA (Turate,
CO) announces that Interlabels Industries (P)
Ltd. has just joined the Gidue family having
bought at the end of 2006 an E-Combattm 370 8
colours UV flexo press bound to the production
of self-adhesive labels. Interlabels, established
in 1983, is located in the outskirt of Mumbai,
India. The company employs 250 people and
has 10 machines installed, mainly rotary
letterpress, letterpress and UV flexo presses.
The company features three divisions: one
entirely dedicated to labels (security labels, hot
temperature labels, VIP labels); a second to
automatic labelling machines produced in
cooperation with the Italian company Arca, and
a third one offering barcode solutions in
partnership with suppliers like Sato and Symbol
Technologies. The E-Combat is part of the
Gidue Combat™ family. The print and
impression cylinders are driven by two
independent motors to achieve total versatility
on any substrate, from PE film to 250 microns
carton. One of the E-Combat distinguishing
mark is the Flower™, the Gidue patented flexo
head, which grants high printing quality, lifetime
stability and high operating speeds.

Stampa di materiali flessibili
Interface (produttore di macchine da stampa per
materiali flessibili per l’industria dell’imballaggio
e del converting) sarà presente alla fiera CMM
2007 (4-7 giugno, Rosemont, Illinois, USA). La
società produce macchine di elevato tenore tecnologico per impianti da stampa tipo stack e a
tamburo centrale. Tra queste, la linea Trinitry, disponibile sino a 10 colori su tamburo con sistema a maniche (studiato per la stampa flexo a fascia media di alta qualità) è caratterizzata da
un design moderno e versatile, che si distingue per la rapidità di messa
a registro e per i minimi tempi di preparazione. Altri accessori standard (videocamera, sistema di lavaggio e controllo concentrazione solventi) sono
disponibili per completare la fornitura.
Stampa di etichette in India
Gidue SpA (Turate, CO), produttore di macchine da stampa, ha annunciato che
Interlabels Industries (P) Ltd a fine 2006 ha acquistato una E-Combat™ 370 a 8 colori, macchina flessografica UV dedicata alla produzione di etichette autoadesive.
Interlabels, fondata nel 1983, sorge alla periferia di Mumbai, India. L’azienda impiega
250 dipendenti e dispone di 10 macchine, soprattutto tipografiche rotative, tipografiche e macchine flessografiche UV.
L’azienda consta di tre divisioni principali: una interamente dedicata alla produzione
di etichette (etichette di sicurezza, hot temperature e VIP); una seconda a etichettatrici automatiche prodotte in collaborazione con l’azienda italiana Arca, e la terza offre
soluzioni per codici a barre in cooperazione con fornitori quali Sato e Symbol
Technologies.
La E-Combat™ fa parte della famiglia Combat™ di Gidue. I cilindri stampa e di impressione sono guidati da due motori indipendenti per raggiungere una versatilità totale su
qualsiasi supporto stampa, dal film di PE ai 250 micron del cartone. Altra caratteristica distintiva è il Flower™, la testa flessografica brevettata da Gidue, che garantisce un’eccellente qualità di stampa e una grande stabilità anche alle alte velocità operative.
