PhD DISSERTATION Title: “An in-silico open-source approach for the investigation of multi-phase packed systems: rigid body simulations and computational fluid dynamics” Advisors: Profs. Daniele Marchisio, Rajandrea Sethi Available online at http://porto.polito.it/2609771/ The dissertation focused on the development of an open-source framework for the analysis of transport phenomena of multi-phase reacting flows in packed beds and disordered porous media, from the creation of the geometric model of the porous medium to the computational fluid dynamics analysis. MSc THESIS Title: “Simulazione di trasporto e deposizione di particelle di ferro in mezzi porosi per applicazioni ambientali. (Simulation of transport and deposition of particles for environmental applications)” Advisors: Profs. Daniele Marchisio, Rajandrea Sethi The thesis dealt with simulating particle transport and deposition in porous media with computational fluid dynamics, obtaining new constitutive equations for particle deposition efficiency. Gianluca Boccardo PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE • Referee Reviewing for the following journals: Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering Science. • Consultancy work (2015 ) Consultancy for BASF, creation of a Python-coded package integrated with Blender for the creation of models of porous media (random packings and packed-bed reactors) via rigid body simulations. Project name: “Algorithmic generation of packings with rigid body simulation”. • Other (2013-2014 ) Collaboration with Institut Français du Pétrole - Énergies Nouvelles. The project dealt with the the CFD analysis of transport (pressure drop, mass transfer) in packed beds of a wide selection of different catalytic elements with different shape and size distribution, in order to ascertain the global packed bed characteristics.
