Gala Dinner 2013 The Morgan Library & Museum 2013 Gala Performance Robert McDuffie Performance Violinist Robert McDuffie, accompanied by pianist Elizabeth Pridgen Program: Grammy nominated artist Robert McDuffie has appeared as soloist with most of the major orchestras of the world. He gave the World Premiere of Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 2, The American Four Seasons – a work written for Robert McDuffie – with the Toronto Symphony. McDuffie recently completed a 30-city U.S. tour with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, pairing the Glass Four Seasons with the Vivaldi Four Seasons Robert McDuffie recorded The American Four Seasons with the London Philharmonic and Marin Alsop on Philip Glass’ Orange Mountain Music label. His acclaimed Telarc and EMI recordings include the violin concertos of Mendelssohn, Bruch, Adams, Glass, Barber, Rozsa, Bernstein, William Schuman, and Viennese violin favorites. Robert McDuffie is the founder of the Rome Chamber Music Festival. He has been awarded the prestigious Premio Simpatia by the Mayor of Rome, in recognition of his contribution to the city’s cultural life. Mr. McDuffie holds the Mansfield and Genelle Jennings Distinguished University Professor Chair at Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, where he founded the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings. Robert McDuffie lives in New York with his wife and two children. He plays a 1735 Guarneri del Gesù violin, known as the “Ladenburg”. Recent concerts include appearances at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Zankel and Weill Recital Halls, Merkin Hall, Long Island’s Tilles Center, the Kosciuszko Foundation, Atlanta’s Spivey Hall, and Ravinia Festival’s “Rising Stars Series”. She has given recitals in Washington D.C., Miami, San Francisco, throughout the Southeast and Caribbean. Festival performances include Rome Chamber Music Festival, Strings Music Festival in Colorado, Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, River To River Festival, Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, Water Island Music Festival, and Madison Chamber Music Festival. She performs regularly with the Diaz String Trio, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the American String Quartet, the Cortona Piano Trio and the Georgian Chamber Players. Ms. Pridgen is a Distinguished Artist and Piano Chair at the McDuffie Center for Strings and holds the G. Leslie Fabian Piano Chair at the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University. She received her Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School where she studied with Joseph Kalichstein and earned her bachelor’s degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Music as a student of Ann Schein. John Elkann Richard Meier Alberto Cribiore Claudio Del Vecchio John Elkann was appointed Chairman of Fiat S.p.A. on 21 April 2010 where he has served as Vice Chairman since 2004 and as a board member since December 1997. Mr. Elkann is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EXOR and Chairman of Giovanni Agnelli e C. Sapaz. Born in New York in 1976, Mr. Elkann obtained a scientific baccalaureate from the Lycée Victor Duruy in Paris, and graduated in Engineering and Management from Politecnico, the Engineering University of Turin. While at university, he gained work experience in various companies of the Fiat Group in the UK and Poland (manufacturing) as well as in France (sales and marketing). He started his professional career in 2001 at General Electric as a member of the Corporate Audit Staff, with assignments in Asia, the USA and Europe. Mr. Elkann is Chairman of Editrice La Stampa and a board member of Fiat Industrial S.p.A., The Economist Group, News Corporation and Banca Leonardo. Mr. Elkann is member of the IAC of Brookings Institution and of MoMA. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Italian Aspen Institute and of the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation. Richard Meier received his architectural training at Cornell University and established his own office in New York City in 1963. Since that time his international practice has encompassed major cultural and civic commissions as well as private residences, and corporate and academic facilities. He has received the highest honors in the field including the Pritzker Prize for Architecture, the Gold Medals of the American Institute of Architects and the Royal Institute of British Architects as well as the Praemium Imperiale from the Japan Art Association. He is best known for the Getty Center in Los Angeles; the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art; and the Jubilee Church in Rome. Some of his recently completed projects include the Italcementi i.Lab in Bergamo, Italy, the OCT Shenzhen Clubhouse in Shenzhen, China and City Green Court in Prague, Czech Republic. His current work includes a condominium complex in Jesolo, Italy; a residential tower in Tel Aviv, Israel; two residential towers in Tokyo, Japan; two hospitality and commercial projects in Mexico; three residential projects in Taiwan; one hospitality project in South Korea; and private residences in Europe, Asia and North America. Alberto Cribiore serves as Vice Chairman of Citi’s Institutional Clients Group, which includes the investment and corporate bank as well as all capital market and alternative investment activities. Prior to joining Citi, Alberto Cribiore had formed Brera Capital Partners, a global private equity investment firm in 1997. Previously, he was Co-President and Partner at Clayton, Dubilier&Rice, Inc., which he joined in 1985 as one of three principal shareholders. Before then, he had been a Senior Vice President at Warner Communications, where he was responsible for mergers, acquisition and divestitures. Prior to that, he was Vice President at IFI International, the international holding company controlled by the Agnelli family. Mr. Cribiore is a cum laude graduate of Bocconi University in Milan and holds degrees in business administration and economics. He has served on the Board of Directors of Merril Lynch, as non executive Chairman, and currently serves as a Director of GAB Robins and other Brera controlled companies. Mr. Cribiore is Advisory Director of the Metropolitan Opera Association and Founder and Honorary Chairman of the Bocconi University Alumni NYC. He is a director of the Council for the US and Italy and a member of the Weill Cornell Medical College Board of Overseers. Claudio Del Vecchio, an international business entrepreneur and industry leader, is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brooks Brothers Group, Inc. Mr. Del Vecchio is also Executive Director of Luxottica Group, the world’s largest manufacturer of eyewear. Mr. Del Vecchio came to the United States in 1982, and was instrumental in transforming Luxottica into the premier factory-direct eyewear organization in the United States. In 1995, the company acquired Lenscrafters, the largest optical retailer in the United States, and Casual Corner Group stores, a retail chain specializing in women’s clothing. In early 2001, the company acquired Adrienne Vittadini and Carolee Designs and was renamed Retail Brand Alliance, Inc. In December 2001, Retail Brand Alliance acquired Brooks Brothers. Mr. Del Vecchio currently serves on the boards of Luxottica Group S.p.A, the National Retail Federation, the International Council of the Preservation Society of Newport County, the American-Italian Cancer Foundation, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Inter Faith Nutrition Network, an honorary fellow of the Foreign Policy Association, and a member of the Center for Economic Transformation of New York City.
