Dearest Sister,
I come to you who live in the heart of the Father as you are about to enter with all
the Pastorelle in the world, in the 75th year of Foundation of our Congregation, a year
which will involve us in a journey of faith together with all the believers in Christ .
I hope that today and onward, during this year of grace, you cultivate the availability
to allow yourself to be surprised by the Good Shepherd, in memory of what Blessed
James Alberione used to tell us on faith: “Faith: to be certain that the Lord loves you” 1.
Our Founder has devoted much of his reflections addressed to us, on the theme of
faith: faith as gift, as foundation of life, virtue, holiness; faith which always requires humility
to distrust of oneself and to rely on God. Often times, he stresses the necessity of a faith
that is more alive and profound that touches all the dimensions of life2.
For this, I want to share with you a thought that is accompanying me in this period
about radiating our faith in the Christian communities we are called to serve. The
Pastorella in the midst of the flock is called to be a ray of light for all, a life-giving heat in
the measure that she allows herself to be enlightened by the sun, which is Christ.
Assimilated in this way to the Sun, she participates intimately in his light. You will
remember immediately what Alberione said to our first sisters in his commentary on
Chapter 10 of John’s Gospel: “These women will be sisters, mothers, teachers, catechists,
the consolers in every sorrow, a ray of light, a beneficial and continuous sun in the
parish.3” These are the words we have read, heard and repeated many times ...
Would not the year dedicated to the faith a good opportunity to concretize always
more and better in our personal and fraternal life, this beautiful image that the Founder has
left us?! What can we do so that the journey of our religious communities may bring forth
fruits of salvation and holiness to the people which the Lord entrusted to us in the pastoral
mission? The Holy Father reminds us that “The Christian message is sown and effectively
takes root where it is lived authentically and eloquently by a community”4.
It is for salvation that we are sent to take care of the people, otherwise we risk
turning our attention to many things, even good things, but do not attain the scope.
Salvation is the new life that Christ came to give us with his Passover and is transmitted to
us through Baptism and we accepted by us with the profession of faith. Our whole life can
become then, in the power of the Spirit, witness and proclamation of this new life in Christ,

in such a way that all who belong to the old Adam, may be definitely left aside in order to
make room for Christ, the new Adam.
This is also the first letter that I write to you in the new version of Comunichiamo
tra noi. A novelty that is new not only in graphics or simply aesthetically, but that could
help us to usher a more profound way of communicating among us.
We hope that the same intensity of communication will be actualized through the
new structure of our Congregational website which we are inaugurating on the occasion
of October 7.
Among the novelty which will arrive in each community is the Illustrative booklet of
the Chapel of the new Generalate dedicated to Jesus Good Shepherd entitled: “That they
may have life and abundant life”. Taking into account that many people cannot visit directly
the Generalate, a DVD will be enclosed to the Booklet. The DVD contains a film strip of the
Chapel, accompanied by the voice of Don Alberione.
We accompany with prayer and reflection the event of the next Synod on “The New
Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith”, we ask the Father that He may
make the hearts of all the participants open wide to the Holy Spirit, so that Christ may
increasingly be known, loved and followed by all peoples.
We also ask for ourselves the grace that our life be an alive and joyful expression of
our encounter with the Good Shepherd to whom we belong totally.
In remembrance of Vatican II, may Mary, the Virgin of the Rosary, intercede for the
whole Church the efficacy of the New evangelization and a renewed springtime.
I greet you with the hope to live this year in preparation for the 75th Foundation
anniversary in the certainty that the Lord loves you and cares for you always! With love,

From the Sisters of the General Government
“We always thank God for all of you, remembering you in our prayers and keeping
constantly present the laboriousness of your faith, the promptness of your charity and
firmness of your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before God and our Father.”. (1Thess 1:23).
We take the inspiration from the words of St Paul to share with you our growth in being
family and the joy of serving the Lord in generosity and fidelity in the ordinariness of very
day life daily.
The months of July and August are holiday time in Italy, our community has welcomed
several missionary Pastorelle who were passing through, they shared with us their
experiences and collaborated in some of the household services. We seemed to have
experienced what is found in the Letter to the Hebrews: “Don't forget to show hospitality to
strangers, for some who have done so have entertained angels without realizing
it!.”(Heb.13:2). What we want to highlight is their witness of life and joy in being Pastorelle.
The visit of the Pastorelle and friends, the presence of some persons who have come
to complete some work for the good functioning of the house have helped us to exercise
constant openness to the unforseen and to welcome the novelty of life that the Good
Shepherd communicates to us through fellowship... and thus we too have been feeling
called to pastoral care.
From 29 July to 4 August, we councillors: Sr Cesarina, Sr Marisa, Sr Rita and I
participated at the National Conference at Capiago (CO) on the theme: “Crucified for us,
died and rose. Faith, pastoral mission and formation in the Church today”. The
content provided us with a re-reading of the Easter event and of the liturgy, according to
the thoughts of the Fathers of the Church.
An important aspect that we experienced in our community is communion with all
through the celebration of the Eucharist, especially by praying for the life of each sister on
the occasion of their birthday or their baptismal anniversary. We beseech the Lord
constantly asking for the gift of health for the sick Sisters, for their communities and their
circumscription.
In recent months we have intensified our prayer, coupled with yours, for Sr Marta, our
Superior General, during her long chemotherapy treatment. Her witness of faith and trust,
lived in serenity, helps us to continue the journey in shared responsibility and hope. This
experience has reinforced the belief that our lives are in the hands of the Lord, who can do
all things and invites us daily to entrust ourselves to Him.
In the life living dynamism of faith, we live with intensity every moment, knowing that
the life in the Spirit is the soul that gives meaning to our whole existence and mission. One
of these moments was the 95th birthday of Sr Federica Carli, who resides at Albano Mother House and is the eldest Pastorella in the Congregation. Sr Federica allowed us to
recall her mission experience in Brazil: 45 years offered for the growth of the Congregation
and the formation of Brazilian Pastorelle. For all of this we thank the Lord!

The sense of Pauline Family that we carry within ourselves has allowed us to welcome
Lucia Park, a Korean Annunciationist, who arrived among us on 31 of August. She will be
with us for a time while studying Italian to prepare to participate in the Formation Course
on the Charism of the Pauline Family in 2013 - 2014.This experience is a wonderful
opportunity to strengthen the spirit as a Pauline Family and to prepare ourselves to
celebrate the centenarian anniversary of the birth of the admirable Pauline Family.
On 14 of September, we welcomed with gratitude to the Lord and the Province of ICN,
Sr Carmen De Simone who will assist in the service of hospitality in the Generalate. While
we rejoice for her availability, we are pleased also for every “Yes” to the Good Shepherd
for the service to the Congregation in the Church and for the building up of God’s
Kingdom.
On the same day Sr Dina Ranzato, also arrived, a missionary in Mozambique for the
past twelve years. She has come for a missionary renewal course at the Salesian
University in Rome. Sr Dina will be with us up to the end of December. We wish and hope
that every Sister feels welcomed and that our house be truly a home for all.

From the group of government of Argentina-Bolivia Delegation
“In Christ, charity in truth becomes the Face of his Person,
a vocation for us to love our brothers and sisters in the truth of his plan5.
To share our journey as a group of government is to share a long time of our
formation and consecration. In 1991, when we started the formation journey, we Sr. Lupita
Lujan Ortega, Sr. María de los Ángeles Seijo and Sr. Teresa Adriana Galay never thought
that twenty years later, God in his providence would have gathered us together to carry out
this service. Each meeting is remembering and also acknowledging the work of God, his
grace shared in us to make of us mutual gift in a special way. We praise and thank the
Good Shepherd for this.
It is already two years that we journey together anew; we know each other and we
accompany each other in the apostolic journey and in the services carried out by each
one. The experience is varied in the evangelical service of authority: Sr. Adriana comes
from an experience of two terms as councilor, Sr. Lupita one term and Sr. Maria de los
Angeles is new to this service.
The meetings we have, whether with the presence of the three of us or via Skype,
since sr Lupita lives in Bolivia, are spaces to seek together the will of God. They are also
valuable time to share experiences and memories, occasions of study and celebrations.
Our service has strong moments wherein through the four areas of our service: meetings,
moments of prayer and formation, assembly planning, we try to involve all the sisters in the
Delegation.

Making our own the orientation of the Seminar on pastoral care, we felt encouraged
to take care of the life of each sister of the Delegation entrusted to us, that is why we
promote frequent meetings with the sisters and the communities, both on the part of the
superior as well as the councilors through visits and telephone calls or via Skype. There is
always reason to share the life of God in us. We also continue to carry out the commitment
to prepare each month the material for the monthly retreats with the Word of God, texts of
the Founder and the Fathers of the Church or Ecclesial documents.
With commitment, we prepared the journey of the Delegation until the 8CG, with the
help of Sr. Marisa Loser and the post-chapter assembly and the six years Project of the
Delegation.
In the light of the guidelines of the 8GC, we elaborated our Project as group of
government, giving priority to the quality of interpersonal relationships with the spirit of
compassion within our group and with the sisters. To reach out the other is difficult,
however, it fills us with joy and it is a sign of the Kingdom in today's story. With pain, we
experience the weaknesses (personal limitation and as well as a group) in this
commitment and at the same time, grow in trust in the mercy of God and his mysterious
journey to accomplish his work in each sister and in each community of this Delegation.
Without neglecting our service, each of us continue to accompany the journey of our
people through stable or sporadic apostolate which are antennae when it comes to
orienting pastoral apostolate and communities. Through the life of God’s people, the Good
Shepherd wants to show us the path of compassion and mercy.
There were moments of cross and pain, where we experience our limits, uncertainty
and doubt whether we act properly, but we also experience that precisely in these
moments that dialogue has flourished and grown, accompaniment and above all the
experience of feeling being loved by God and in communion with the sisters. Therefore
gratitude, joy and praise for God’s action in us and through us flow.
Trusting in God’s grace, we know that the Good Shepherd leads us in his hands and
wraps us in his mercy. To Mary Shepherdess, we ask that she may continue to intercede
for us in the mission entrusted to us.

La Superiora generale, sr Marta Finotelli, con il consenso del Consiglio, nei mesi da giugno a
settembre, ha compiuto i seguenti atti:
 Ha ammesso alla professione perpetua la junior sr Ignacia Coching, della Provincia
Filippine‐Australia‐Saipan.
 Ha incontrato le sorelle dell’Equipe centrale informazione/riflessione (ECIR) nei giorni 18‐19
giugno e 22-23 settembre in casa generalizia. Nel primo incontro sono state studiate alcune
modalità per meglio organizzare la comunicazione nell’intera Congregazione e avviato lo studio
per l’approfondimento dell’obiettivo dell’8CG. Nel secondo incontro sono state considerate e
definite le diverse proposte preparate dalle sorelle dell’equipe: Prima scheda di
approfondimento, la metodologia di lavoro per la Commissione internazionale di ricerca e
studio dei testi del Fondatore, il Sito istituzionale rinnovato, il CTN in veste nuova.
 Ha continuato la riflessione su uno dei mandati capitolari: Costituzione della Commissione
internazionale di ricerca e studio dei testi del Fondatore. A tale scopo sono state interpellate
alcune sorelle rappresentanti delle quattro principali lingue della Congregazione. La
commissione è composta da: sr Luisa Melania Caguana per la lingua spagnola, sr Marylin
Delalamon per la lingua inglese, sr Sandra Pascoalato per la lingua portoghese e sr Monica
Reda per la lingua italiana.
 Ha ultimato la preparazione per l’Incontro continentale in Africa realizzato in Pemba ‐ Mozambico, nei giorni 26 giugno – 13 luglio. In questo incontro erano presenti sr Rita Ruzzene
e sr Inacia dos Santos del governo generale e hanno partecipato tutte le sorelle delle
comunità di Libreville (Gabon) e Pemba (Mozambico). Sr Marta ha partecipato ad alcuni
momenti dell’incontro in collegamento skype. Al rientro dall’incontro ha riflettuto sulla relazione
dell’incontro e continuato la riflessione sulla nostra presenza in Africa coinvolgendo i governi
provinciali dell’ICN e di BR‐SP per studiare insieme le prospettive.
 Ha emanato il decreto di erezione delle comunità di Campo Belo e di Londrina, della Provincia
BR-CdS e approvato l’apertura della comunità di S. Paolo‐Santos Apostolos, composta dalle
due comunità di IDP e di S. Paolo – Jabaquara, della Provincia BR‐SP.
 Ha approvato il trasferimento della residenza della comunità di Taiwan e ha accolto la richiesta
di un parroco, per la collaborazione part‐time di sr Maria Veronica Gungon nella parrocchia di
St Christopher in Taipei, sia per la formazione continua che per l’accompagnamento degli
immigrati, per un anno. Ha prorogato per un anno l’incarico di sr Maria Veronica Gungon
come superiora della comunità di Taipei ‐ Taiwan, comunità dipendente dal Governo Generale.
 Ha considerato la progettazione economica della Provincia BR‐CdS.
 Ha accolto la richiesta dell’Annunziatina Lucia Park della Corea di trascorrere un tempo nella
nostra casa generalizia prima di partecipare al Corso di Formazione sul carisma della Famiglia
Paolina 2013‐2014.
 Ha costituito la nuova comunità studi‐carisma di Roma‐Traversari, composta da sr Giuseppina
Alberghina, nominata superiora della comunità per un quadriennio; sr Giustina Panarella
incaricata dell’amministrazione e le studenti: sr Magally Marin (COVE‐ME), sr Luz Marilù
Miranda (CI‐PE) e sr Teresa de Jesus Quintero (CO‐VE‐ME).
 Ha chiesto alla Provincia ICN la disponibilità di sr Carmen De Simone per il servizio di
accoglienza nella casa generalizia. Sr Carmen fa parte della comunità generalizia dalla
seconda metà di settembre 2012.

Brasile Caxias do Sul - Uruguay
“Entrando nel sepolcro, videro un giovane, seduto sulla destra, vestito d'una veste bianca,
ed ebbero paura. Ma egli disse loro: «Non abbiate paura! Voi cercate Gesù Nazareno, il crocifisso.
E' risorto, non è qui. Ecco il luogo dove l'avevano deposto.” (Mc 16, 5-6)
In preparazione alla prossima Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù, a Campo Belo do Sul, è
stata realizzato un incontro con il tema: “Non Stress. Ci sono i giovani”. L’obiettivo dell’incontro
era quello di riunire i giovani e aiutarli nell’organizzazione di piccoli gruppi sia nella città come nei
villaggi e per celebrare insieme la vita.
Questi giovani sono “chiamati” a proclamare con la propria vita: “Lui è Risorto!”.
Hanno partecipato circa 70 giovani con diversi momenti di preghiera, relax, dinamiche per
aiutarli a cogliere la vita in se stessi, la forza della risurrezione nell’impegno per i loro diritti ad una
vita dignitosa; per una educazione di qualità; per non essere costretti ad uscire dal proprio Stato,
lasciando le proprie origini, le proprie famiglie e per la ricerca di una migliore condizione di vita. I
giovani sono annunciatori della risurrezione e portano in se stessi la novità del Regno. Anche noi
siamo invitate ad accogliere questo invito per annunciare che Gesù è vivo!

Brasile San Paolo - Gabon
Il 22 luglio nella comunità di Jardim, provincia P. Alberione-(SP), circa 50 Cooperatori
Paolini “Amici di Gesù buon Pastore” hanno partecipato ad una giornata di spiritualità, guidata dal
vescovo Dom Angélico Sândalo (membro dell’Istituto Gesù Sacerdote).
Dom Angélico con semplicità ha trattato il tema a partire dalla sua esperienza e con grande
profondità. Nella riflessione ha sviluppato il tema “Essere discepoli missionari di Gesù”,
sottolineando che per essere veri discepoli è necessario essere adoratori della Trinità che è la
perfetta famiglia. Per avere questa esperienza viva con la Trinità è necessaria una vita di preghiera
e di amore fraterno. Gesù ha lasciato come segno per i suoi discepoli l’Amore: “Da questo
conosceranno tutti che siete miei discepoli, se avete amore gli uni per gli altri. (Gv 13,35).
A proposito della preghiera Dom Angélico ha evidenziato la necessità di una preghiera vitale
perché diventi vita che parla di Dio nella concretezza di ogni giorno. La più grande missione che
possiamo realizzare è essere presenza di amore dove siamo chiamati a stare.
La giornata è stata ricca di preghiera individuale, comunitaria e di condivisione di vita.
Iniziata con una preghiera che ha introdotto la riflessione è stata conclusa con la celebrazione
Eucaristica che ha messo in evidenza la compassione del Buon Pastore.

Cile - Perù
Con lo slogan: “Cercate prima il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia” (Mt 6,33) è stata avviata la
Camminata della Solidarietà del 25 agosto 2012 nella città di Santiago, Cile.
Hanno partecipato più di 20.000 giovani della città, compresi i giovani della nostra Parrocchia
San Francesco Solano.
L’obiettivo era celebrare, come Chiesa giovane, la vita piena che Dio ci dona in Gesù Cristo, e
come profeti di giustizia sociale nella città, testimoniare insieme il nostro impegno cristiano e
missionario con la vita e la dignità di tutti i nostri fratelli.
Il pellegrinaggio è iniziato nel Parco “I Re”, dopo l’invito a camminare con una motivazione
specifica, insieme a Sant’Alberto Hurtado (santo cileno), con un gesto concreto di denuncia e
annuncio, esprimendo ciò che preoccupa, ciò che sogniamo per la società e per la Chiesa.
Questo evento non è stato solo un camminare per la città, ma un’espressione dell’impegno
concreto con la vita di tutti e di tutte, con l’AMORE per cui Gesù ha dato la Vita, per donarci Vita in
abbondanza.
In quest’occasione la camminata ha avuto una sottolineatura particolare in modo che tutti i
partecipanti si ponessero la domanda: PERCHÉ VUOI CAMMINARE? Il pellegrinaggio si è
concluso nel Santuario del Padre Hurtado, dove si è celebrata la Liturgia Eucaristica presieduta
dall’arcivescovo, Mons. Ricardo Ezzati, che ha incoraggiato i pellegrini nell’impegno a costruire
una società più giusta e più fraterna.

Colombia – Venezuela - Messico
In occasione della preparazione del cinquantesimo della nostra presenza in Colombia,
(successivamente divenuta Delegazione Colombia Venezuela Messico), tutta la delegazione sta
vivendo un tempo speciale di riflessione e di comunicazione di vita, e per questo abbiamo avuto
l’opportunità di realizzare un incontro tra le sorelle con età superiore ai 55 anni, nei giorni 2-7
settembre a Paipa, una cittadina a 179 km a oriente di Bogotà. Le sorelle hanno tutte aderito
all’iniziativa con gioia e disponibilità.
Obiettivo dell’incontro è stato quello di favorire uno spazio in cui poter condividere e riflettere
insieme su alcuni temi utili a vivere con serenità questa tappa della vita che si affaccia all’anzianità.
All’inizio di ogni giornata ci si è messe in ascolto della Parola di Dio mediante la Lectio divina, il cui
punto centrale è sempre riconoscere l’iniziativa di Dio che si fa incontro alla persona umana per
entrare in comunione con essa. Abbiamo ricordato, tra l’altro, Mosè nell’episodio del roveto
ardente, la visita di Maria ad Elisabetta. Sr Luz Mary Oliveros ci ha aiutato a gustare la Parola.
Nel pomeriggio abbiamo avuto la possibilità di riflettere sulla vita del nostro Fondatore il
Beato Giacomo Alberione, il suo cammino come Fondatore e la sua risposta a Dio nell’età adulta,
prendendo come testo base AD dal 43 al 48. Sr Luisa Melania Caguana ha contribuito aiutandoci
ad approfondire questo spazio della vita di Alberione.
Un altro oggetto di riflessione è stato condiviso da sr Ana Acero, che abbiamo chiamato la
“Resilienza”. Essa è l’attitudine positiva di fronte alle situazioni limite della nostra vita. A questo
punto abbiamo fatto un bell’esercizio con una vaso di argilla, che ciascuna poteva scegliere
secondo i suoi gusti. Poi è stata invitata a rompere il vaso e cercare di ricostruirlo; è stata
l’occasione per riflettere come nella vita siamo chiamate a integrare tutti i momenti che viviamo
anche quando non sono facili da accettare.
La natura, l’accoglienza di ogni persona che abbiamo incontrato in questi giorni è stato
motivo di gratitudine al Signore per le tante meraviglie che ha operato in ciascuna di noi e nella
nostra Delegazione.

Corea
Abbiamo cominciato un apostolato pastorale nei fine settimana nella parrocchia di Kumho
nella diocesi di Seoul. Questa parrocchia è stata fondata nel 1962. I laici sono circa 5.000. Ha un
centro per anziani. Questa collaborazione parrocchiale nei fine settimana è molto utile per noi
Pastorelle perché ci permette di ampliare il nostro raggio di azione, continuando negli altri giorni il
lavoro e lo studio. Inoltre ci dà la possibilità di conoscere altre realtà ecclesiali che ci aiutano ad
inserirci sempre più profondamente nella pastorale diocesana e di discernere profondamente
prima di un inserimento a tempo pieno.

Filippine - Australia - Saipan
Entusiasmo e fiducia sono stati i sentimenti dominanti quando abbiamo ricevuto il mandato lo
scorso Aprile 2012. Entusiasmo perché da lungo tempo la nostra Provincia sognava di avere
comunità in Visayas e Mindanao, e ora il nostro sogno è diventato realtà, anche se la nostra
comunità è ancora ad experimentum. Ma siamo piene di speranza che il Signore continua a
chiamarci in questo posto a servire il suo popolo con il cuore del Buon Pastore. Come comunità,
abbiamo cominciato nella semplicità e povertà. La parrocchia ci ha provveduto una casa semplice,
con le necessità di base. Affidiamo ogni cosa nelle mani di Dio e crediamo che la Provvidenza
verrà in abbondanza. Siamo circondate da gente buona e premurosa che ispira noi ad essere
altrettanto buone nel rispondere ai loro bisogni.
La nostra presenza sta diventando lentamente visibile, sentiamo che come giovane comunità
ed anche come nuova presenza in questa Diocesi siamo chiamate non solo ad essere visibili ma
soprattutto credibili. Per questo, abbiamo bisogno della grazia di Dio. Nel nostro ministero abbiamo
il compito di edificare e prenderci cura delle comunità cristiane, ma crediamo che prima di
raggiungere questo abbiamo bisogno di prenderci cura l’una dell’altra nella nostra comunità. Un
tempo di quattro mesi è troppo poco per poter descrivere concretamente la nostra missione, ma a
poco a poco stiamo già cominciando a condividere, con i nostri collaboratori e con il popolo
affidatoci, la nostra spiritualità così come si manifesta nel nostro modo di vivere come Pastorelle,

Siamo piene di gioia mentre accogliamo nel nostro cuore la nuova realtà e ci sforziamo di
inculturarci in essa. Per tutte le benedizioni che abbiamo ricevuto in questi pochi mesi, ringraziamo
il Signore. Per il tempo che ci attende in futuro lo affidiamo a Lui.

La nostra esperienza da “terremotate”
A quattro mesi dai terremoti del 20 e 29 maggio scorso siamo ancora qui in mezzo alla nostra
gente per condividere con loro sofferenze, fatiche ma anche tanti segni di speranza per un ritorno
alla normalità.
Alcuni stati d’animo forti ci hanno accompagnato in questa situazione: il senso di insicurezza,
la forza della solidarietà e della fede. Come tutti abbiamo sperimentato la precarietà: La terra si
scuote e, in pochi secondi, si sbriciolano le case, le fabbriche, le vite umane. Oltre a patire per le
varie realtà di dolore, siamo stati messi alla prova nell’animo, per il protrarsi delle scosse, anche
forti; come pure dalla perdita di alcuni edifici simbolici dei nostri paesi, e tra questi in modo
particolare di tante chiese e strutture parrocchiali e civili. Assieme alle case sono crollati confini,
categorie e ruoli.
Come molti, abbiamo vissuto, in noi e verso gli altri, la forza della generosità, della
solidarietà, della carità. La collaborazione è stata spontanea, generosa, paziente. Lavorare
insieme ha suscitato la gioia del condividere, del conoscerci. Guardando le nostre terre si prova

una profonda commozione davanti a tante ferite, ma stiamo vedendo anche tante mani che
vogliono curare; la nostra gente sta reagendo con forza e coraggio, sta facendo di tutto perché la
vita non si fermi e questo è il segno più bello e luminoso.
Dalla parola di Dio stiamo attingendo forza e coraggio, in particolare dal salmo del Buon
Pastore «se anche dovessi camminare in una valle oscura tu sei con me: il tuo bastone e il tuo
vincastro mi danno sicurezza». Questa è la nostra certezza: il Signore è sempre con noi e lo
stiamo sperimentando in tantissimi modi. Inoltre ci siamo sentite sostenute dalla preghiera e dalla
visita di tante sorelle e persone vicine e lontane. Un momento forte continua ad essere l’incontro
con tanti sacerdoti con i quali condividiamo momenti di preghiera e di iniziative varie a favore della
comunità.
Da questa esperienza nasce la consapevolezza che niente è più come prima e nello stesso
tempo siamo certe che la prova terribile del terremoto può cambiarci in meglio se sapremo
dirigerci, a piccoli passi, verso una meta nuova, più umana e più cristiana.

Alcuni flash dell’esperienza di Gjyste Doda, albanese, al primo anno di noviziato e Sara
Buccarella, italiana, al secondo anno:
“Dal mese di settembre 2012 è stata costituita la comunità di noviziato nella casetta ad
Albano Laziale (RM) (…). Vivere ad Albano ci ha permesso di conoscere le persone delle
comunità qui presenti e di ascoltare alcune loro testimonianze di vita, comunicandoci il loro
entusiasmo di essere donne consacrate e la loro gratitudine al Signore! Con loro abbiamo vissuto
ogni giorno la Celebrazione Eucaristica, l’adorazione comunitaria domenicale e un momento
ricreativo.
Abitare vicino a Roma ci ha offerto l’opportunità di vivere alcune esperienze per noi
importanti, come frequentare la casa generalizia, condividere dei tempi formativi con la nostra
superiora generale, sr Marta, i quali ci hanno permesso di allargare i nostri orizzonti e di conoscere
meglio la nostra famiglia religiosa, partecipare alla Messa Crismale presieduta dal Papa Benedetto
XVI a San Pietro e visitare la cappella vaticana Redemptoris Mater, in cui è rappresentata in
mosaico, con la ricchezza del linguaggio simbolico, la storia della salvezza.
Ci è stata donata, poi, la possibilità di incontrarci con le altre novizie della Famiglia Paolina:
Figlie di San Paolo, Pie Discepole e Apostoline, con le quali abbiamo vissuto momenti formativi
sugli scritti del Fondatore, come l’Abundantes Divitiae e il Donec Formetur, e un primo approccio al
Progetto Unitario di Famiglia Paolina. Nell’incontro conclusivo tra noi novizie è stato importante
che ognuna abbia presentato il carisma del proprio Istituto, per sentirci unite da una spiritualità
comune che pone al centro Gesù Cristo Via, Verità e Vita. (…)”.

the meek and silent face of pastorality
(first part)
In September 1940, when the young Margherita was received at Genzano among the
aspirants, our Congregation had not yet completed two years of life. Blonde, thin, timid, only 13
years old and coming from Trentino, one of the towns in the valley of Primiero, namely from
Mezzano.
To better understand the personality of the future Mother Giuseppina it is worth knowing a
little of the place where she was born and spent her childhood and to consider the beauty, strength
and simplicity of the Dolomites. The beautiful meadow basin Primiero lies along the river Cismon,
in which it set off a series of tributaries that flow through the valleys, the main ones are the stream
Canali and the stream Noana. The valley is enclosed on all sides by towering mountain ranges: the
North-East of the Pale of San Martino6, in the north-west the Lagorai and south the Vette Feltrine
that surround the valley, set like a green jewel of in a rock casket. In the valley recline several
municipalities that constitute the district of Primiero: Imer, Mezzano, Transacqua, Fiera di Primiero,
Tonadico, Siror, Canal San Bovo.
The town of Mezzano, located at 650 m above sea level, today with its 1,700 inhabitants
denotes its rural past. There are many picturesque corners and alleys in its historical centre, which
is best expressed by the careful simplicity of Primieroian architecture. Like several other places of
Primiero, Mezzano also knows the mining development and the migration of miners from the area
of Schwaz in Austria, but does not lose its characteristics as an agricultural centre.
At Mezzano, Giovanni Cosner and Maria Bettega, married in May 1922 and set up family.
After the birth of two sons, their first daughter, Margherita was born on July 24, 1927. The couple,
Giovanni and Maria had a nice big family of five sons and two daughters: Constantino, Andrea, our
Margherita, Teresa, Giorgio, Felice and Giampaolo.
Giovanni works his land as if caressing it and saying thank you to it for its beauty and fertility.
The bride, Maria helps as far as she can in the fields, while having to care for the children as they
gradually arrive. But there is a breath of peace in the slow but steady pace of mountaineers. At the
sound of the Angelus there is prayer together and praise to the Creator, who wanted to be a man
like us and knew the hardship of work and the joy of family affection.
Some Christians are solid and sturdy as the rocks of the Dolomites and every event of their
lives is received with the eyes of faith in God's providence that takes care of all its children. Small
Margherita received the Baptism in the Parish church dedicated to St. Giorgio, at the hands of the
parish priest, Fr Giovanni Rattin on July 31, 1927
The beautiful Parish church, built in typical mountain architecture, with the sloping roof of
wooden shingles and the typical onion tower that stands over the area, it has also known the first
prayers and the first steps in the Christian community of Margherita and we do not know how many

and what colloquies she has woven with the Lord Jesus, who from the Tabernacle drew her to
himself.
Little Margherita attended with diligence and good results the elementary school, without
neglecting the catechism and the care of the younger siblings who were adding to the family. One
of the brothers will become a Combonian missionary Fr Giorgio Cosner, who was very close to
Margherita, and regularly, in his periodic returns from Brazil, will go to the Mother House of the
Pastorelle to meet his sister, becoming a missionary brother to all.
As a teenager, Margherita sees some young girls of the valley of Primiero leaving to become
nuns among the Pastorelle Sisters, when in turn, from Mezzano the Vocationist passes by,
Margherita asks to be taken with her to a place totally unknown but full of charm. After a long trip
and certainly not easy, Margharita arrives at Genzano. Among other young aspirants she stands
out for her shyness and quietness, while faithfully fulfilling, with love and a sense of responsibility,
everything that is asked, aware of its new important state of "aspiring" to religious life.
Given her exemplary conduct she was admitted to receive the religious habit on September
1942, just 15 years old. With extraordinary dignity she wore her religious habit and lived her status
as "suorina" behaving as if she had already made her novitiate. For a year she took on the
important task of porter in the house of Genzano, a role that involves a lot of trust on the part of
superiors and a good discreet ability to handle anything that comes to the door of the community.
These were the difficult years of the Second World War and the Pastorelle Sisters, although
newborn, experience the condition of displaced persons and took advantage of the hospitality of
Miss Rosa Mandochi who provided her house at Puos d'Alpago, in order to get away from
Genzano, occupied by German troops. Among other nuns, in September 1943 our Margherita,
came to Puos d'Alpago and stayed until the end of the war, spending a few months in the
neighboring community of Voltago. At the end of the war she spent some months, from September
to December, in the community of Marciana, in the island of Elba .
On 29 May 1945, not yet 18 years old, Margherita was admitted to the novitiate, at that time,
in our congregation, it did not have a very definite structure, but in practice it was still a challenging
preparation for the first vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.
Once Margherita completes her year of novitiate which she lives with her usual diligence
and suavity, is admitted to the first profession, that is on 30 May 1946, taking the name of Sister
Maria Giuseppina. It 's the day when she is united to Jesus with new and special bonds and we
can imagine the depth of her joy that is reflected on the transparent face and manifested externally
by her habitual sobriety.
The young Sister up to 1949 alternates her presence between Genzano and S. Pietro alle
Acque, performing various tasks of trust. In the spring of 1948 she fell ill and after recovering, in
July, is sent to convalescent at Bieno Valsugana (TN), in contact with her mountains and breathing
the pure air of the Dolomites, she can recover and completely heal.
She returns to Genzano to start studying at a Teacher Training institute, as a private student,
along with three other young sisters and graduated 18 October 1950. The teachers of the small
group were the brothers and sisters of the Pauline Family: Sr Luigina Borrano fsp, Fr Tommaso
Dragon ssp, and Fr Francis Xavier Borrano ssp. Its a great event for the young Congregation. In
this regard, Fr Luigi Rolfo ssp, while repeating some of the words of Fr Alberione for the occasion,
says: "Even Alberione, always so sparing with personal appreciations, when the first four
Pastorelle brilliantly obtained the certification for teaching, he publicly expressed his delight, if not
his wonder. In fact, on 18 October 1950, at the beginning of a sermon he gave to the Pastorelle
during a course of Spiritual Exercises, in the house of the writers at Albano, he said to them: “I
arrived late because I waited for the outcome of the exams: all have been promoted. I had asked
the Good Shepherd, as proof that the Institute is in the will of God and is walking in the good spirit,
the success of this examination. Let us thank God and continue walking with fervor and in the joy
of your call "”7

One of the four religious who is successful is Sr. M. Giuseppina Cosner who from that
moment makes available all her talents for the mission of the Congregation and especially in the
area of formation. In the following year she also gains a diploma in Catechetical teaching, and
while still at Genzano, she take on the position as Kindergarten teacher.
On 23 June 1953 the Congregation obtained Diocesan approval and a few months later,
exactly on October 7, 1953, the fifteenth anniversary of the foundation, in Massa Martana, after a
course of spiritual exercises, Sr. M. Giuseppina along with 14 other sisters, took their religious
vows that from that moment will also be considered public. That, too, is an event of great historical
significance because within a few years after its foundation, the Institute received its first official
approval signed by Cardinal Joseph Pizzardo, Bishop of Albano Laziale.
Subsequently, the Founder proceeds to give a more stable configuration to its new institution
appointing, after appropriate consultation of the professed sisters, the first General Government,
and it will be fittingly the first four graduates8 to form this group.

Carissime Sorelle,
in questa nuova fase del nostro informativo, vorrei proporvi volta per volta, dei
contenuti che ci possano servire per una riflessione e condivisione non solo tra di noi, ma
anche con i laici con cui collaboriamo. Desidero proporvi prevalentemente dei testi del
Magistero della Chiesa, della nostra Regola di Vita, dei documenti della Congregazione,
che ci aiutino a gettare uno sguardo col cuore di Pastorelle a ciò che ci circonda.
Spronate dalla realtà odierna nelle sue connotazioni sociali, politiche ed economicofinanziarie, possiamo riflettere, alla luce della fede, quale possa essere il nostro piccolo
contributo nel cambiamento di ciò che non favorisce la vita piena, la giustizia, la
solidarietà… e quindi di ciò che insidia la piena realizzazione della vocazione dell’uomo
che è immagine di Dio.
Nella recente visita del Papa in Libano, avvenuta lo scorso 14 settembre, Benedetto
XVI ha rivolto la parola ai rappresentanti delle Autorità parlamentari, ai Capi delle missioni
diplomatiche, ai responsabili religiosi, all’Episcopato e a tutto il popolo. Il suo discorso è
valido per tutte le Nazioni e mi sembra che ci colloca di fronte a ciò che sono le sfide

attuali anche per noi, lì dove viviamo il nostro ministero pastorale. Ecco un interessante
passaggio del discorso del Papa:
«La disoccupazione, la povertà, la corruzione, le diverse dipendenze, lo sfruttamento,
i traffici di ogni sorta e il terrorismo implicano, assieme alla sofferenza inaccettabile di
quanti ne sono vittime, un indebolimento del potenziale umano. La logica economica e
finanziaria vuole continuamente imporci il suo giogo e far primeggiare l’avere sull’essere!
Ma la perdita di ogni vita umana è una perdita per l’umanità intera. Questa è una grande
famiglia di cui siamo tutti responsabili. Certe ideologie, mettendo in causa in modo diretto
o indiretto, o persino legale, il valore inalienabile di ogni persona e il fondamento naturale
della famiglia, minano le basi della società. Dobbiamo essere coscienti di questi attentati
all’edificazione e all’armonia del vivere insieme. Solo una solidarietà effettiva costituisce
l’antidoto a tutto questo. Solidarietà per respingere ciò che ostacola il rispetto di ogni
essere umano, solidarietà per sostenere le politiche e le iniziative volte ad unire i popoli in
modo onesto e giusto. È bello vedere le azioni di collaborazione e di vero dialogo che
costruiscono una nuova maniera di vivere insieme. Una migliore qualità di vita e di
sviluppo integrale non è possibile che nella condivisione delle ricchezze e delle
competenze, rispettando la dignità di ciascuno. Ma un tale stile di vita conviviale, sereno e
dinamico non può esistere senza la fiducia nell’altro, chiunque sia. Oggi, le differenze
culturali, sociali, religiose, devono approdare a vivere un nuovo tipo di fraternità, dove
appunto ciò che unisce è il senso comune della grandezza di ogni persona, e il dono che
essa è per se stessa, per gli altri e per l’umanità. Qui si trova la via della pace ! Qui è
l’impegno che ci è richiesto! Qui è l’orientamento che deve presiedere alle scelte politiche
ed economiche, ad ogni livello e su scala planetaria!»
Insieme a questo brano significativo del discorso del Papa, possiamo riprendere
anche l’art. 9 della nostra Regola di Vita che ci ricorda lo spirito con cui serviamo il gregge
di Dio e il coraggio nella ricerca di forme sempre più idonee di pastorale.
Infine vi invito a far memoria dell’Obbiettivo del nostro 8°CG che ha come
fondamento la compassione del Pastore che depone la vita e ci sollecita alla comunione e
conversione pastorale per poter vivere una rinnovata presenza nella Chiesa del nostro
tempo.
Credo che ognuna di noi possa dedicare qualche spazio di tempo per sostare su
questi testi, per dopo poter condividere in comunità e nell’apostolato ciò che abbiamo
potuto ascoltare alla luce della fede e magari vedere insieme le intuizioni avute per il
nostro ministero di cura pastorale.
Ci uniamo nel ringraziare la Provvidenza per tutti i benefici spirituali e materiali, che
ogni giorno elargisce su di noi, sulle nostre famiglie, su tutta l’umanità. Ringraziamo il
Signore per i nostri Benefattori, per tutti coloro che pregano con noi e per noi e affidiamo al
Signore le loro intenzioni.
Continuiamo a invocare la Provvidenza per tutta l’umanità e a collaborare con essa
attraverso lo spirito di povertà che ci ha insegnato il Beato Alberione.
Buona continuazione del vostro ministero e vi auguro un fecondo anno della fede.

UNA VISITA CHE ILLUMINA
La "lampada della Famiglia Paolina", che solitamente sfila in ogni celebrazione di particolari
ricorrenze di “Famiglia”, in questi mesi ha fatto il suo pellegrinaggio nelle comunità dove sono
presenti le Pastorelle in Brasile.
In tutti i luoghi dove è passata ha portato molta vita, speranza e unità per il cammino di
preparazione al Centenario della nascita della Famiglia Paolina che sarà celebrato nel 2014.
Nei luoghi dove è giunta si sono realizzati diversi momenti celebrativi di preghiera con la
partecipazione della gente, delle Pastorelle, dei Cooperatori e di altre congregazioni e Istituti della
Famiglia Paolina. La “Lampada” è sempre stata accolta con devozione. Il sentimento principale
che tutti hanno sperimentato è stato quello della gioia per l’annuncio di Gesù Cristo e del
rafforzamento dell’unità e del senso di appartenenza alla “meravigliosa Famiglia Paolina”: 10
vocazioni per annunciare l’Evangelo.
Per tutte le Pastorelle è stato un tempo intenso di comunione, di fede, di impegno di
organizzazione nelle comunità parrocchiali per accogliere la “Lampada”. Per questo le sorelle sono
molto grate a Dio per l’esperienza vissuta tra loro e con il popolo di Dio. È loro desiderio che la
“Lampada” continui il pellegrinaggio illuminando tutti e facendo conoscere la “mirabile Famiglia
Paolina”.

Allora, con un’ora di adorazione si è iniziato il lavoro che continua adesso,
la vita che continua. Allora erano pochissimi ragazzetti,

D’altra parte non è il rumore che faccia molto bene,

Una lettera alle "Comunitá cristiane e agli uomini e donne di buona volontá"
La conferenza episcopale del Mozambico (CEM), il 06 agosto 2012 ha pubblicato una nota
indirizzata dal titolo: CONSTRUIR A DEMOCRACIA PARA PRESERVAR A PAZ (Construire la
democazia per preservare la pace).
La nota prende spunto dal fatto che il Mozambico si prepara a celebrare il 20º anniversario
della firma del Trattato di Pace, avvenuto a Roma il 4 Ottobre del 1992.
Osservando la realtá attuale del Paese nei suoi aspetti positivi e problematici, i Vescovi ne
fanno una lettura critica.
Grazie all'accordo di pace, scrivono, “il Signore ha benedetto il Paese con una infinitá di
possibilitá. Oggi, infatti, si assiste a una esplosione di scoperte, quasi in tutto il Paese. Ricchezze
di ogni tipo (gas, petrolio, pietre preziose, ecc.) - ma, essi dicono - se viene a mancare la
prudenza, la sapienza, una giusta politica e chiaroveggenza nel governare tutto ció, invece di
prosperitá puó trasformarsi in fonte di disuguaglianza, di violenza, di criminalitá organizzata, di
distruzione e di morte”.
Invitano pertanto a “ripensare le prioritá e i valori in campo etico, politico, economico e
sociale. É necessario” affermano, “aprire il dibattito, il quale non deve essere riservato ai soli
politici o specialisti, ma deve coinvolgere tutti i cittadini”. Concludono invitando tutti (comunitá
cristiana, partiti, confessioni religiose, imprese e agenti economici, mozambicani e stranieri) a
sentire forte la responsabilitá per le generazioni future.

Una nuova forma di schiavitù: abusi sui minori
L’Agenzia Fides, organo di informazione delle Pontificie Opere Missionarie, in questi ultimi
mesi sta segnalando il grave problema degli abusi sui minori presente in America Latina:
Honduras, Haiti, Colombia, Repubblica Dominicana, Cile, Ecuador, Brasile, Messico…
Se questo è un fenomeno che sta crescendo in diversi paesi, il Messico è il secondo paese
dell’America Latina con il maggior numero di popolazione infantile dove si registra il tasso più
elevato di violenza fisica, abuso sessuale e omicidi tra i minori. Le condizioni in cui vivono molti
minori sono allarmanti: molti sono per le strade, vittime di delinquenza, povertà, prostituzione
forzata, traffico di organi, non hanno accesso all’istruzione, sono maltrattati, vittime di abusi,
completamente soli e privi di qualsiasi assistenza di base. In alcuni casi lavorano senza ricevere
alcun compenso economico e molti dei lavori nei quali questi piccoli vengono impiegati sono ad
altissimo rischio anche per la loro incolumità fisica. Purtroppo sono tanti i bambini che non hanno

alternative di sostentamento e cercano di guadagnarsi da vivere svolgendo attività pericolose che
spesso li coinvolgono in organizzazioni criminali.
Occorrono quindi maggiore tutela e riconoscimento dei diritti dei bambini e degli adolescenti. Ci
sono organizzazioni civili ed ecclesiali che si stanno occupando del problema con iniziative, ma
sempre molto inferiori alle necessità. Per questo è importante far crescere la sensibilità e le
iniziative concrete per combattere questa nuova forma di schiavitù che in alcuni paesi sta
diventando la normalità.

Viaggio Apostolico del Papa Benedetto XVI in Libano, 14-16 settembre 2012
All’udienza generale del 19.09.2012 Benedetto XVI ha detto che “…i giorni trascorsi in
Libano sono stati una stupenda manifestazione di fede e di intensa religiosità e un segno profetico
di pace”. Ha ripercorso le tappe della sua visita in Libano, viaggio "fortemente voluto", in una
regione che vede drammi, come il "terribile conflitto" in Medio Oriente. I cristiani sono stati esortati
a vivere la fede e a testimoniarla senza paura. Questo evento ha rappresentato un segno forte di
pace e convivenza non solo per il Paese dei Cedri, ma per tutto il Medio Oriente. Aveva come
scopo principale la firma e la consegna dell’Esortazione Apostolica postsinodale Ecclesia in Medio
Oriente ai rappresentanti delle Comunità cattoliche, per "raggiungere tutti i fedeli di quella cara
regione per sostenerli nella fede e nella comunione, e spronarli sulla via della tanto auspicata
nuova evangelizzazione".
La visita del Santo Padre, ha generato anche “soddisfazione e speranza nei Patriarchi

Papa i leader cristiani damasceni, tutti presenti in Libano, hanno rimarcato la “piena sintonia” con
Benedetto XVI sull’urgenza di una “soluzione pacifica” della crisi siriana, attraverso il dialogo e la
riconciliazione”.
Sui primi frutti di questa visita del Papa, il nunzio in Libano, Mons. Gabriele Caccia ha
detto: “Certamente c’è un grande frutto, che è la gioia. La gioia, l’entusiasmo di tutti i partecipanti a
questo evento che è già definito storico. Non parlo solo dei cristiani, per i quali la visita del Santo
Padre è stata determinante, ma anche per tutta la più ampia comunità libanese è stata veramente
un’esperienza di pace”.

Accettare la sfida della secolarizzazione
Con questa affermazione si è conclusa a San Gallo, in Svizzera, l´assemblea generale del
Consiglio delle Conferenze episcopali d’Europa (CCEE). La Chiesa di oggi, ha affermato il
presidente del CCEE, il cardinale Peter Erdö, al termine dei lavori, deve accorgersi della presenza
dei segni di speranza che sono frutto del Concilio Vaticano II.
Oltre 50 tra cardinali e vescovi di tutta Europa hanno discusso sulle sfide che il Vecchio
Continente sta affrontando, come la crisi economica ma anche la sfida della nuova
evangelizzazione. Dopo questa assemblea i Vescovi ripartono, ciascuno per il proprio Paese, dopo

giorni intensi di confronto sulla situazione in Europa, attraversata da una profonda crisi che
assume molteplici volti, ma con una speranza concreta, come ha ricordato il cardinale Peter Erdö.
Nel comunicato finale, i vescovi europei si dicono “consapevoli che l’annuncio di Cristo Gesù
è il grande ‘sì’ di Dio alla vita dell’uomo, alla libertà, all’amore. Il Vangelo, infatti, rivela la verità di
Dio-Amore e svela il vero volto dell’uomo, lo salva dal male morale e porta a pienezza la sua
umanità. Prendendo atto delle gravi derive del liberismo economico e del libertarismo etico –
proseguono i presuli nel comunicato finale - vogliamo ricordare che il cristianesimo è quanto mai
attuale, e offre a tutti il suo patrimonio di perenne attualità poiché proclama un umanesimo
personalista e comunitario”. “Le culture laiche, che si scontrano su diverse visioni antropologiche,
non devono guardare con sospetto il messaggio cristiano, che da sempre dischiude l’ala della fede
e l’ala della ragione. Le due ali appartengono all’uomo e alla storia europea, e sono alla base della
nostra civiltà. La Chiesa rendendo testimonianza della verità della fede, partecipa al dibattito
culturale e sociale con il proprio patrimonio di sapienza e di cultura, presentando le elaborazioni
della retta ragione. L’intento di ridisegnare i fondamenti naturali della società, come la famiglia o la
convivenza delle diverse tradizioni storiche e religiose, è ritenuto non casuale”.

OCEANIA
La Conferenza Episcopale dell’Australia ha lanciato l’Anno di grazia dalla Pentecoste 2012
alla Pentecoste 2013. Un anno di riflessione in cui prendere piccole pause regolari per accogliere
la Grazia di Dio e ripartire per vivere il dono dello Spirito Santo. Ogni fedele è invitato alla
“contemplazione del volto di Cristo per fare esperienza di una nuova ondata di Grazia, affinché la
luce di Cristo arda sempre più splendente nella nostra vita e la Chiesa possa essere trasformata,
le nostre relazioni siano sanate e la nostra Nazione cresca sempre di più in compassione e
giustizia” (dalla preghiera nazionale).

Il 30 settembre 2012, Giornata per la giustizia sociale, i Vescovi australiani, hanno rilasciato il
documento sulla famiglia dal titolo “Il dono della famiglia in tempi difficili”. I Vescovi esortano i
cattolici a prendere in considerazione il ruolo essenziale che svolgono le famiglie nella società e a
individuare nuovi modi per rafforzarlo e sostenerlo. Faro di speranza, la famiglia è il fondamento su
cui si basa la società. Tuttavia, oggi in Australia molti nuclei familiari sono in difficoltà, sopraffatti
dalla crisi economica, da pressioni sociali e dai problemi legati all’occupazione, a prendere in
considerazione il ruolo essenziale che svolgono le famiglie nella società e a individuare nuovi modi
per rafforzarlo e sostenerlo.

OF COMPASSION
The theme of compassion can be considered central to Christian spirituality, particularly in
the pastoral because it draws from the compassion of Christ, the source and motivation that
distinguishes it from other philosophies and religions.
A simple etymological consideration says that ‘compassion’, from cum-patior, literally
means I suffer with the other, I feel within me the painful reality of the other, I am involved, I share
the situation in an alive and conscious manner: the horizon is to remain with Christ in his passion
for humanity: the Paschal Mystery.
From the East to West of the world, ‘compassion’ seems to have its own importance in
religions and in ancient and today’s cultures. Buddhism considers it fundamental for a happy and
wise life: the compassionate person enjoys good health, because taking care of others and having
compassion for every human being, he/she finds the way of his/her own happiness (Dalai Lama).
Every day, Islam raises its praise to Allah, the compassionate, the merciful.
Modern studies on human behavior offer education to compassion programs in the vision of
altruism: it would be the willingness to place oneself in the shoes of others until the point of
acknowledging them and sharing in their joys and suffering. In philosophical vein, compassion is
considered rather as relationship with the other which requires communication skills and where
pain restores the touch, hearing, sight, heart, thought to feel the wounds of anyone. (R. Mancini,

According to some theologians, compassion is the most human of virtues, it means taking
upon oneself the suffering of others and living it in solidarity. At its center lies the dignity and
authority of those who suffer and provoking an active compassion. It does not need any prior
reflection or foundation, it simply imposes in us to be compassionate beings. In compassion would
be verified the encounter of all religions, East and West, all ethics, all philosophies and all cultures.

If compassion is participation in the pain of others, identification with the suffering of others,
then it would be a condition of a new politics of peace and for the acknowledgment of the
oppressed. Its importance is imposed not only in terms of interreligious dialogue, but also on the
ethical and political aspects, it humanizes memory whereas modern freedom has made it
‘forgetful’. (JB Metz)
Just a few examples to say that relationships and human affairs, everywhere and always
preserve the seeds of compassion. It could not be otherwise, since human nature came out from
the creative hands of God, if it is common to the person fragility due to sin, being ‘the image and
likeness of God’ is greater; it is his/her indelible character. Christian faith is not simply setting it
side by side with other visions of the world, it appreciates those seeds but also knows that it can
proclaim that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Good Shepherd who lays down his life is
compassion.
Scripture, though there are variation in translations, associates the compassion of God to
love and faithfulness, to mercy and pietas (cf. Psalm 86:15). The intimate ‘thrill’ of compassion is
God’s answer to the non-conversion of Israel (cf. Hos 11.8), the spring is deep, where the ‘guts’

are womb of sentiments, attention, sensitivity, decisions/will that ‘push’ God to re-generate his
people, offering to him anew the Word faithful to the covenant.
The compassionate God is the creator who remembers the work of his hands, he is the
Redeemer who ‘remembers his covenant with them and is moved to compassion for his great love’
(cf. Psalm 106:45). The compassion of God is thus revealed as the will of salvation, an “eternal
thrill” which becomes the way of liberation from the slavery of sin (Exodus) and words engraved in
the heart for a bond of nuptial love (covenant). Living in God’s compassion is accepting the
continuous transformation of selves. It is the key in obeying that: ‘Go and do likewise’ as Jesus
says in the context of the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
Each time that Jesus was moved with compassion (esplanchnizomai expression of intense
emotion, indicates the “guts”, in particular the maternal womb), a change takes place: tears stop
falling because death is overcome (cf. Lk. 7:13), wounds are healed because there are those who
care (cf. Lk. 10:37), there is the surprise of the Father who goes out (cf. Lk. 15:20), the company of
the Shepherd is restored to the disoriented sheep (cf. Mk. 6:34). The sentiments of the disciples, of
those who have learned while being with the Lord, will be sentiments of love and compassion
(splagchna) (cf. Phil. 2:1).
The ‘measure’ of Jesus’ compassion is overflowing: he bent down at the feet of his disciples
as their Servant, he extends himself in the embrace of the Cross as the Beloved Son, he is
standing as the Risen Lord of redeemed history. All human reality, all human misery enters the
passion of Jesus in order to be handed over to the Father, forgiven and brilliant as Easter light: it is
the passion which the Good Shepherd lives while giving himself to the Father for those He loves, it
is compassion.
The things that ‘he suffered’ (epathen) are the obedience of the Son of God and the
suffering of the world are transformed into prayer and cry to the Father who hears those who
entrust themselves fully to Him (cf. Heb. 5:7-8). We can foresee the priestly twist which
compassion assume in the maturation of the Christian faith: “For we do not have a high priest who
is unable to sympathize (sum-pathesai in Greek, cóm-pati in Latin) with our weakness” (Hebrews
4:15 a) .
To sympathize with becomes an expression of the baptismal priesthood that offers to the
Father the human reality inhabited and transformed by the love of Christ; it is the gift, it is the
responsibility of “feeling truthful compassion (metriopathein) for those who are ignorant and erring,
for he himself is beset by weakness” (Heb. 5:2). With eyes fixed on the Lord (cf. Heb 12:21) is the
way of compassion.
Therefore as St. Gregory the Great says in the Pastoral Rule (see II, 5): “That the ruler
should be a near neighbour to everyone in compassion, and exalted above all in contemplation so
that through the bowels of loving-kindness he may transfer the infirmities of others to himself, and
by loftiness of speculation transcend even himself in his aspiration after the invisible; lest either in
seeking high things he despise the weak things of his neighbours, or in suiting himself to the weak
things of his neighbours he relinquish his aspiration after high things.”
The woman of Bethany (cf. Mk. 14:3,9; Jn. 12:1-11), foretells that she will always be there
where the world cover up the ugliness of pain and death. She will caress and anoint that Body
destined for burial. Thus she announces that the life which remains in Christ, gathered forever in
his compassion radiates with beauty.

They say very easily that we are in the “digital era”. Everything looks new and even difficult to
understand. There are those who demonize the new technologies and others consider them an
idol. However, “virtue is found in the middle” as the wise say ...
Our Founder was very sensitive to the new technologies, convinced that they can be powerful and
effective tools for evangelization. We are invited to be “attentive to the signs of the times” as many
times Alberione himself urged us to be. Aware that the Internet is not only a means of
communication, but also a “place” where we want to be as a Congregation - with quality presence
– we will seek to understand, in this new section of the CTN, some terms which have become
common in our “new / old” digital dictionary. For now, we do not intend to reflect on these terms,
but only to understand their meaning.
Social network is a social structure made up of individuals or organizations who share ideas,
activities, events, and interests within their individual networks. The web service has made
possible the creation of a virtual social network, that is, even if it is not a physical space, is a
"place" through which you build relationships with other people. Facebook is the social network for
excellence, it is known worldwide, although there are others, more or less developed, with its own
characteristics such as Twitter, Myspace, Badoo, etc.
Link = Bond: it indicates the connection between two documents or between different websites.
This refers to a characteristic function, typical of hypertext, enclosing in them graphics or textsensitive parts which activation is done with the click of the mouse cursor. Clicking means passing
to another document, multi-media functions (audio or video) or to another website. Websites often
incorporate links in order to indicate to the users other websites on similar topics.
Cookie, also known technically an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie, is usually a small
piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user's web browser while a user is browsing a
website. It contains a long series of numbers, letters and related symbols that work in an
automated manner. A cookie stores the user preferences. For example, on Google, cookies are
used to remember if a user wants to view the results in English or Italian. Our new website uses
this technology, which makes it very easy to open the same links in the language previously
selected by the user.
