All year round Møn and South Zealand will reward you handsomely when you lose
yourself in the many splendours of their scenery. You will find everything from
the spectacular White Cliffs of Møn, the idyllic Præstø Fiord to the beautiful
Svinø Island north of Vordingborg. Whether you go stone hunting along the beach
with your children or go bird-watching in our extensive wetlands – no matter
what, we assure you: a splendid time is guaranteed.
It is beyond dispute that the White Cliffs of
Møn are our most spectacular natural attraction! The towering white chalk cliffs plunge
dramatically towards the turquoise sea, and
standing on the beach below the cliffs you
will get a sense of how tiny man is. If you
wander across the cliffs, you might catch a
glimpse of the peregrine falcon or find fascinating fossils and amber on the beach.
Let the blood rush through your veins
ascending or descending the steps from the
beach to the top of the cliff, and let your
mind wander while gazing over the sea from
the many vantage points along the cliff.
If you visit us in the spring, a boat ride
close to the seals at Bøgestrømmen or a
walk in one of our many green forests will
be an experience for life. In summer, bathing at Ulvshale or Svinø Beach is like a
balm for the mind. In autumn, long walks
along the Baltic coastline with the wind
against you and white horses as far as the
eye can see, will invigorate you - body and
soul. On a cold day in January, an outing to
Jungshoved Nor is a marvel to behold when
mute swans, coots and tufted ducks gather
in holes in the ice.

trascorrere splendidi momenti.
Senza dubbio le bianche scogliere di Møn sono
l’attrazione naturale più spettacolare, lo strapiombo torreggiante di gesso bianco si tuffa in
modo drammatico nel mare turchese, e dalla
spiaggia sottostante vivi la sensazione di essere
davvero piccolo. Passeggiando sulle scogliere,
potresti intravedere il falco pellegrino, trovare
fossili affascinanti e ambra lungo la spiaggia.
Senti il battito del tuo cuore mentre raggiungi il
punto più alto delle scogliere e libera la mente
ammirando il mare. In primavera non puoi assolutamente perderti un’uscita in barca tra le
foche a Bøgestrømmen o una passeggiata in
uno dei nostri boschi verdi. In estate, invece, un
bagno alle spiagge di Ulvshale o di Svinø è
come un balsamo per la mente. In autunno,
rinvigorisci anima e corpo con una lunga
passeggiata lungo il litorale con il vento tra i
capelli e cavalli bianchi a perdita d’occhio.
In una fredda giornata di gennaio fai una gita a
Jungshoved Nor quando i cigni reali e le anatre
si radunano nei sul ghiaccio - è uno spettacolo
imperdibile.

to the great nature experiences will
be greatly improved for elderly, disabled and families with prams. At
Easter, a 267 metre long, wooden
boardwalk will be inaugurated. It
leads along the edge of the cliffs and
to the view point at Freuchens Pynt.

As a contrast to the wild scenery on the
cliff, there is this romantic park which
was established at the end of the 1700s
and which is one of Denmark’s, even one
of Scandinavia’s, finest examples of
romantic or English landscape gardening.

This is a very poetic spot where nature and
culture are united: a charming scatter of
rare trees, mulberry and walnut among
ponds and streams, gullies and artificial
waterfalls. The jewel in the crown is the
Liselund country mansion that lets nature
into its open rooms. Murals create an
illusion of views and numerous mirrors
repeat the decorations.
Down to the last details the grounds as
well as the buildings have been developed
with an immense love for the place and
the woman who lends her name to the
park: Liselund is a token of love for Lise.

cliffs of Møn, towering 130 metres above

The beaches are rich in fossils and pretty
stones, and if you are patient you may even
find amber. Nature lovers will discover quiet,

magnificent views. Anglers have their particular stretches of coast with sea trout, garfish and salmon. Wind- and kitesurfers
enjoy the good winds of Farø, Ore beach in
Vordingborg and Stege bay. Families with
children will be pleased with the shallow
waters along our coasts and the facilities on
our beaches.

Some of the best Nordic coastal and trolling fishing
The spectacular backdrop of Møns Klint has
at all times been known to provide some of
the best conditions for coastal fishing in
Denmark. Winter and spring especially are
good angling seasons on Møn. Also, a lot of
trolling boats find their way to Klintholm harbour, which has fine facilities for boats of all
sizes. Anglers and their families can be certain to enjoy the fishing activities and relaxation in suitable accommodation, whether in
holiday houses, B&B’s or camping cabins.
Sea trout fishing along the coast of the majestic, white cliffs is especially popular. You will
find a perfect description of all the good fishing spots in the new, award-winning Møns
Klint App. The App can be downloaded free of
charge, and it is full of extraordinary photos
and video clips from Møns Klint as well as
spectacular images of the seabed along the
coast that is ‘powered by nature’. We have not
only collected the best fishing spots, but also
provided descriptions of the best hints and
tips from the local fishing guide and, as such,
give you the possibility to catch the coveted
‘silverware’ – the sea trout - from the coast.

Currently, Vordingborg and Odsherred
Municipalities cooperate with the Danish
Anglers Federal Association in order to improve the area’s streams, to double the young

salmon release in Zealand and the islands as
well as to collect documentation of the number of spawning areas. The goal is to make
coastal fishing for sea trout and perch even
better and - together with the business community - to develop the service facilities in
the areas around Fishing Zealand.

the Baltic seen through diving goggles
To most people, the sea is a closed and hidden world. But there are many experiences we can all share. Beneath the surface, everything is quiet and calm, almost
weightless. As a diver, you get very close to the fishes. You can open a mussel, and
even get it to eat out of your hand.
It is an early summer morning at a random
point along the coast in South Zealand. We
approach the water wearing diving goggles,
snorkel and flippers. With this equipment, we
have the opportunity to experience a secret,
hidden world - the life beneath the surface
of the sea.
The first thing we notice are the beautiful
colors that are reflected in the seaweed in
the shallow water. As we swim past some
large rocks, also overgrown with seaweed,
the sun sends a shimmering light through
the water, illuminating a mussel bank below. I
forget all about time and place when I,
through my goggles, suddenly notice a
starfish slowly moving across the sea bed.
They are all dressed in different nuances,
stretching from dark purple to browns,
reddish and dark blues. As I turn one over, I
can see its tube feet placed in four rows on
its lower side. The mouth is placed in the
middle. I have often seen a starfish eat a
clam. It will curve itself over the mussel like a
bell, placing the arms’ suction feet on the
two shells and then pull them apart in order
to create a tiny crack. Through this crack, the
starfish can then digest the mussel.
I swim slowly and soon I notice more details
in the water. A viviparous, spiny-finned

Blenny slips into hiding behind a rock. A crab,
caught at the open sandy bottom, threatens
with its large claws and digs into the sand. A
colourful Father Lasher waits for its prey, pretending it hasn’t noticed us. Large shoals of
the two-spotted Goby span the large rocks,
where the water is a little deeper. Only 6 cm
long, this is the smallest fish in Denmark.
Animal life disguise incredibly well in the sea.
A long, thin Pipefish swims vertically through
the water, resembling little more than a string
of seaweed. You can hardly get a more close
and intense experience of life in the sea. Full
of impressions, we return to dry land again.
There is no doubt that the coast along Møn
and South Zealand is rich in diverse animal life
and various types of sand base. The sea is
enormous. Alluring and fascinating. Safe and
disturbing. It is a part of our lives yet, still so
very unknown.
Danish and German partners are working together in the international project, ‘UNDINE’, in order to conserve
and emphasize the fascinating underwater world of the Baltic. In South
Zealand and Møn, the Avnø Nature
Centre and Geocenter Møns Klint are
working hard to teach and inform the
public and tourists alike about various
sub-types of water, snorkeling and
diving experiences.

Il Mar Baltico visto attraverso la maschera
Per la maggior parte delle persone il
mare è un mondo chiuso e nascosto.
Eppure ci sono moltissime esperienze
che tutti possiamo condividere. Sotto la
superficie ogni cosa è calma e silenziosa,
quasi senza peso. Quando ti immergi,
puoi avvicinarti in modo sorprendente ai
pesci e alle creature marine. Puoi persino
aprire un mollusco e assaggiarlo dalle tue
stesse mani.
È mattino presto in qualche punto lungo la
costa della Selandia del Sud. Ci avviciniamo
all’acqua indossando la maschera, il respiratore e le pinne. Con questo semplice equipaggiamento possiamo vivere un’esperienza
misteriosa, esplorare un mondo nascosto –
scoprire la vita sotto la superficie del mare.
La prima cosa che notiamo sono i colori
splendidi che si riflettono tra alghe nelle
acque poco profonde. Mentre nuotiamo vicino
ad alcune grandi rocce, i raggi del sole attraversano l’acqua e illuminano un banco di mitili
sotto di noi.
Mi dimentico del tempo e dello spazio quando, attraverso la maschera, scorgo delle stelle
marine a passeggio sul fondo. Indossano
nuance differenti, dal viola scuro al marrone,
dal rossastro al blu intenso. Quando ne giro
una, posso notare tutti i particolari, i piedini a
forma di tubo, la bocca posta in mezzo.
Spesso ho visto le stelle marine alle prese con
le vongole: abbracciano la conchiglia e riescono
ad aprirla con un leggero schiocco e poi mangiano il mollusco.
Nuoto lentamente e comincio ad accorgermi
sempre di più dei dettagli. Un pesce osseo, il
Lipophrys pholis, scappa dietro una roccia. Un
granchio mi minaccia con le sue grandi chele e
si scava un nascondiglio sotto la sabbia. Un
coloratissimo pesce scorpione attende la sua
preda, facendo finta di non averci notato. I
banchi di ghiozzi biocellati circondano le pietre
più grandi. Il ghiozzo è il pesce più piccolo delle
acque danesi con i suoi 6cm di lunghezza.
La fauna marina si mimetizza in modo incredibile. Un lungo e sottile pesce pipa nuota in verticale assumendo le sembianze di un’alga.
Difficilmente si può vivere un’esperienza più
intensa del nuotare a contatto con la vita
subacquea, perciò ci sentiamo più ricchi di
impressioni e sensazioni quando torniamo alla
terraferma.
La costa lungo l’isola di Møn e la Selandia del
Sud è ricca di biodiversità e di fondali sabbiosi
di molti generi. Il mare è immenso. Attraente e
affascinante. Sicuro e maestoso. È parte della
nostra vita, ma resta ancora sconosciuto e misterioso.

the opportunity to descend to the coast
and experience the harbour seals that
breed in Avnø Fiord. A new coating on
the path, stretching from the parking lot
at the nature center and to the coast,
has made the way accessible for wheelchair users. The road has also been raised, so it is less prone to the floods
which are an important part of nature’s
cycle on Avnø.

Avnø, a little hillock on Svinø way out
in Avnø Fiord, is situated just north of
Knudshoved Point. It is a pearl of nature
which was listed for preservation back in
2002 because of its extraordinary plant
and animal life (which, in many other
areas of Denmark, is fast declining).
In between autumn and winter large flocks of
migratory birds touch down on Avnø; greylag
and barnacle geese pass by in large flocks.
The winter is also the time for large birds of
prey. Often you see the white-tailed eagle in
the air above the meadows or the fiord, waiting to strike for food in the cold winter.
In Avnø, the first signs of spring can be heard
very early. A skylark will exercise its vocal
chords well before the season starts. Later
on, lapwing, redshank, avocet and green frogs
will fill the air with sounds.
In the summer time Avnø overflows with new
wildlife. The speckled seals in Avnø Fiord have
cute little pups. The birds of the area hide
their young ones in the high grass and the
lakes are full of green frog and toad tadpoles.
The autumn is quiet and beautiful in Avnø.
There are a host of seals in the fiord. Fur is
moulted, mating occurs and the seal pups
enjoy the stone reef in the fiord. The cows
are out to grass and look well in the open
landscape.
Avnø Nature Center is open all year round, 24
hours a day. Climb the tower and a panoramic
view stretches before you. You will also discover a small exhibition that recounts Avnø’s
history and nature.
Tables and chairs are available, so bring your
picnic basket and have lunch indoors or outdoors around the bonfire. There is free access
to toilets at the center.
Avnø Nature School often has guests from
local schools and institutions. They learn all
about nature and sleep over in special dormitories.

2002, avendo un tipo di natura ed animali, che nella maggior parte della

Il primo segno della primavera, è il canto
dell'allodola, che si fa sentire preparando le
corde vocali per la stagione. Più avanti saranno il pavoncella, il pettegola, l'avocetta e la
rana verde che riempiranno l'aria con suoni.
L'estate è la stagione dei cuccioli sull'Avnø,
come per esempio la foca maculata. Gli uccelli
del posto nascondono i loro piccoli nella erba
alta, i laghi sono pieni di girini di rana verde e
fischio rospo.
L'autunno é tranquillo e bello. Il fiordo è
pieno di foche: Sono in muta, si accoppiano
ed i cuccioli dell'anno riempiono le scogliere.
Le mucche a pascolo rendono il panorama
perfetto.
Alla fine dell'autunno sostano qui grossi stormi di uccelli migratori. In maggior parte l'oca
grigia e l'oca bramato.
L'inverno è stagione di grossi uccelli predatori.
L'aquila di mare si vede spesso mentre caccia
le facili prede sopra il fiordo.
Il “Nature Center” di Avnø è aperto tutto l'anno, giorno e notte. Dall'alto della torre di
guardia godi di un paesaggio mozzafiato,
mentre al piano terra una mostra ti racconta
la storia e la natura di Avnø. Puoi pranzare al
sacco nella natura oppure all'interno, vicino al
focolare. L'uso dei servizi è gratuito.
All'interno del centro c'è anche una scuola per
studenti danesi e stranieri che vogliono saperne di più sulla natura.

In 2013 around 300 youngsters aging
15-25 from Denmark, Germany, Poland,
Sweeden and Lithaunia will be sailing
upon classic sailing ships between the
countries of the project partners.
The project is part of the european
South Baltic Sea Programme.

coste, le spiagge e il mare invitano i più giovani ad approfittarne per una nuotata o per
attività acquatiche.
Lots of youth feel the school holidays are
long and sometimes boring, but the youth of
Vordingborg municipality is actually invited to
join the international EU-project MAST,
Maritime Education and Sail Training for
Young People. As participant the youngsters
will meet and work together with young ones
from Germany, Poland, Lithuania or Sweden
and experience all the challenges connected
to sailing upon classic sailing ships. These
include navigation, steering, keeping the ship
tidy, making food and learning to thinking
about safety – and the display of the cosy
crew life, even at a campfire!
During the school holidays there are several
options, both for sailing a week on a tall ship
from Poland, Sweden or Lithuania on the
open Baltic Sea, or for joining a sailing camp
with the historical postship Røret of Nyord
together with a german galliot. The sailor
camps are organised in local water areas
(Stege or Bogø) and in Wismar, Germany,
with skilled instructors from sailing schools,
Staysail at Møn and Seglerjugend of Wismar.

Per vivere al meglio le vacanze, la gioventù di
Vordingborg è invitata a partecipare al progetto internzaionale dell'Unione Europea MAST,

A special visit to the small island of Nyord
is a must. You get there crossing the small
bridge from Møn. On the island, you will
find nature and culture in a unique combination. Cattle graze and migratory birds
rest in the large meadows. Nyord village,
with the old farms, small fishermen’s houses and the harbour, is well preserved as a
part of the coastal history. In 2011, Nyord
was selected as the most beautiful village
in Eastern Denmark.
The meadows in Nyord are a relaxation area of
international importance – at least if you are a
migratory bird! In the summer, cows graze in
the preserved meadow areas and help secure
the favourable conditions for the large flocks of
birds resting during their migration to the north
or the south.
Don’t miss a visit in the village at Nyord. You
will find idyll and charm, which will melt any
heart! The Farms, fishermen’s houses and the
look-out point ‘Møllestangen’ tell the story
about the hardship of earlier times. Visit the
small local history exhibition and learn about
the fascinating stories and destinies on Nyord.
Take a stroll through the village and enjoy the
unique octagonal church and the harbour,
which is known and loved amongst sailors.
There, you will also find the ‘Røret’ mail boat,
which functioned as Nyord’s connection to the
outside world from 1902 – 1967 until the bridge to Møn was built. It is also worth paying a
visit to Runa Hellesøes glass workshop, and
you can get an ice cream or a beer at ‘Lillebod’.
Continue to the restaurant ‘Lolles Gård’ and
enjoy a delicious meal in the traditional and
cosy atmosphere. Before leaving Nyord, you
can make a stop at ‘Noorbohandelen’ for quality spirits and local specialities, such as Nyord
Nature Products and mustard from the Nyord
Mustard Mill located just next door.
Una visita all'isola di Nyord è un’esperienza
davvero particolare. Attraverso il ponte
che parte da Møn si raggiungono vasti
prati e campi inondati dal mare che ospitano le greggi al pascolo e gli uccelli migratori a riposo. Il villaggio di Nyord con le sue
antiche fattorie e il porticciolo, conserva
invece la storia culturale della costa.
Nell'anno 2011 viene premiato come “Il

Le paludi di Nyord rappresentano una sosta
vitale gli uccelli migratori sulle rotte internazionali. Le mucche pascolano in estate sui prati e
creano un habitat ottimale per gli stormi di
uccelli migratori. Ricordati di visitare Nyord, un
villaggio pieno di fascino, dove lascerai sicuramente il cuore. Le vecchie fattorie, le capanne
dei pescatori e la torre di avvistamento
“Møllestangen”, testimoniano ancora oggi le
dure condizioni del passato.
Visita la piccola mostra locale che racconta la
storia dell'isola e del villaggio. Passa per la particolare chiesa ottagonale e prosegui fino al
porticciolo, posto amato e conosciuto dai
diportisti. Qui si trova anche il battello postale,
restaurato di recente, del nome “Røret”. Il postale era l'unico collegamento tra Møn e Nyord
dal 1902 al 1967, quando fu infine costruito il
ponte.
Vicino c'è anche il laboratorio dell'artista Runa
Hellesø, e si può gustare un gelato o una birra
fredda al “Lillebod”.
Continua la passeggiata fino al “LollesGaard”,
un locale accogliente dove pranzare in modo
ottimo. Prima di lasciare l'isola passa per
“Noorbohandelen”, per acquistare liquori di
qualità e specialità locali, nel vicino negozio di
Prodotti di Nyord o al Mulino della Senape.

Bird migration route over the Baltic Sea. Every spring and autumn, approximately
1.5 to 3 million. migratory birds across the Fehmarn Belt. For birds of prey, passerines and pigeons, the migratory route passes over South Zealand and the
islands. This is the shortest connection between Scandinavia and mainland Europe
because the birds avoid flying over open water.
Møn and South Zealand are one of the
most fascinating bird areas in Denmark and
of great international importance for water
and migratory birds. Here you will find several sanctuaries and nature reserves with
lookouts and nature centers, from where it
is possible to observe birds in all seasons.
The steep, white cliffs at Mons Klint are a
breeding ground for peregrine falcons. On
days with good views, there is a huge array
of birds of prey: buzzards, red kites,
ospreys and cranes, all using the cliff as a
guide to their migration from Germany to
Sweden. All this is best observed from
Perch Hill (Aborrebjerget).
The coast around the Ulvshale peninsula is
a waterfowl paradise. From July to
September it is Møn’s best area to study
shorebirds. Ulvshale’s Nature Center and
the 'Goose Lake' (with disabled access) are
good starting points for an excursion.
The island of Nyord is one of the most
important breeding sites for shorebirds in
eastern Denmark. Good lookouts are the
roadside bird observation tower and the
Hyldevang Naturcenter - both places have
disabled access and excellent facilities.
After the sugar factory at Stege was dismantled, the sludge ponds were turned
into and artificial nature reserve. This has

created a little haven for ducks close to the
town. There is access to this from the car
park at Kostervej.
The Avnø peninsula, on the former aircraft
landing strip, features Denmark's highest bird
tower, built and designed to accommodate
the former air traffic controller tower. From
here there are magnificent views - not least
the seals resting on the stone reef in the
middle of the fairway. Avnø is easily accessible with good parking and new handicap
facilities.
Præstø Fjord is broad and shallow with 3
important bird islands: Storeholm, Lilleholm
and Maderne. There is established a joint
tutorial programme under the heading "The
Praesto Nature Room”. (Read more on page

Le scoscese, bianche falesie di Mons Klint
sono il luogo dell’accoppiamento del falco
pellegrino. Nei giorni limpidi si riescono ad
osservare moltissimi rapaci: poiane, nibbi
reali, falchi pescatori oltre alle elegantissime
gru – uccelli che usano le scogliere come
punto di riferimento nella migrazione dalla
Germania alla Svezia. Il miglior punto di
osservazione è “il trespolo” (Aborrebjerget).
La costa della penisola di Ulvshale è un paradiso per gli uccelli acquatici. Da luglio a settembre il miglior posto per studiare i chionidi
è proprio l’isola di Møn, mentre il Nature
Center di Ulvshale e ‘l’isola delle oche’ (che

La penisola di Avnø, su cui si stendeva in passato una pista di atterraggio per gli aerei, ospita la più alta torre per gli uccelli, ricavata in
quella che un tempo era la torre di controllo
del traffico aereo. Da qui si gode una vista
fantastica e si possono anche osservare le
foche che si riposano sugli scogli. Avnø è
accessibile grazie a un comodo parcheggio e
strutture per disabili.
Il fiordo di Præstø è ampio e le sue acque
sono basse. Ci sono 3 isole importanti per i
volatili: Storeholm, Lilleholm e Maderne. Esiste
un programma tutorial per conoscerle tutte e
tre chiamato "The Praesto Nature Room”.

On Møn, Nyord and Avnø you can
experience the night in its original,
black darkness like no other place in
Eastern Denmark. Here, the night sky
is not spoiled by city light, and that
benefits the migratory birds and the
people studying them.
By listening to the birds calling each
other, the ornithologists can determine
which species pass by the moon. You can
hear the birds calling in the spring and in
the autumn when they cross the night sky
over Nyord and Avnø.
It is important to preserve natural dark
places so birds and other animals can
find peace and quiet. Migratory birds that
do not fly in the night need the darkness
in order to rest. And the darkness is also
beneficial for the many insects active at
night, providing an important food source
for birds and bats.
The migratory birds navigate by the stars.
Some species use the stars’ turning cycle
around the North Star. Other migratory
birds adjust their flying route according
to the sun’s rising and setting.
The ornithologists also benefits from the
dark night sky. They use the full moon in
the autumn in order to count the migratory birds. They observe the full moon
through powerful bird binoculars and
count the number of silhouettes passing
in front of the moon. The size of the
migratory birds are measured in contrast
to the moon crater ‘Tycho’, which is
named after the Danish astronomer
Tycho Brahe. The crater is easy to observe with ordinary binoculars as it shows
up as a light spot on the lowest part of
the full moon.

When you can see a laterally reversed
question mark South East in the sky,
then spring has arrived! That is the
star constellation, the Lion, which
appears high in the sky in the spring.
Summer:
In the bright summer nights you can
experience shining night clouds. Their
silver blue light is a strong contrast to
the red and orange colours of the
sunset.
Autumn:
In the cool nights of autumn, the Milky
Way is situated high in the sky. You
can observe how the Milky Way is split
into two bright bands towards the
horizon, disappearing behind the
Baltic.
Winter:
Go on trip in the forest around Møns
Klint. On a cold and clear winter’s
night, all the leaves have fallen off the
trees and the stars sparkle like diamonds between the tree crowns.

Anche gli ornitologi hanno bisogno del

plenilunio autunnale per contare gli
uccelli migratori. Osservano la luna piena
con un binocolo particolare che
permette loro di contare le silhouette
che le passano davanti. La taglia degli
uccelli si calcola facendo un confronto
con il cratere lunare di Tycho, che deve il
suo nome all’astronomo Tycho Brahe.
Il cratere viene osservato con un normale binocolo ed è un’area luminosa nella
parte bassa della luna piena.
I richiami degli uccelli permettono il
riconoscimento delle specie. Puoi sentire
il loro canto in in primavera ed autunno
durante la migrazione, quando passano
sopra Nyord e Avnø.
Estate:
Durante le chiare notti estive puoi
osservare le nuovole luminose. La loro
luce argentata contrasta amabilmente
con i rossi del tramonto.
Autunno:
Nel freddo cielo d'autunno si staglia la
Via Lattea. Vedrai due nastri luminosi
perdersi nel Mar Baltico
Inverno:
Vai nel bosco in una fredda e chiara
notte d'inverno. Scorgerai le stelle che

information on the 50 most beautiful ancient monuments in the municipality. On the
website you will find descriptions of the archaeological site, what has been found there,
along with interesting stories from the folklore.
All of this is spiced up with a series of stunning photos from the sites. The descriptions of
the individual monuments can - along with detailed directional – be printed in pdf form

At the place where it happened ...
In 2012, Vordingborg Municipality implemented the project "Discover Antiquity
in the Municipality". Through the project,
new information signs were produced and
installed at 15 archaeological sites in the
open countryside for the benefit of all
visitors. The signs describe the individual
monument’s exciting history and are
accompanied by beautiful illustrations in
color. There are German and English summaries for foreign guests.
EU and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture
and Fisheries has participated in financing
the project.
All in all, Vordingborg have thus produced
new signs at over 40 monuments in the
municipality. Together with the National
Culture Agency's sign project at the
megalithic tombs at Vestmøn and former
signage, there are now signs at 50
archaeological sites in the municipality.
Vordingborg Municipality takes care of
the ancient monuments and thus ensures
that they appear visible and presentable
for the visitors.

Il luogo dove tutto è successo...
Nel 2012 la municipalità di Vordingborg ha
implementato il progetto "Scopri l’Antichità".
Il progetto include la produzione e l’installazione di cartelli innovativi in 15 siti archeologici nella campagna per il beneficio dei
visitatori. Questi cartelli descrivono individualmente i monumenti e la loro storia,
accompagnati da incantevoli immagini a
colori. Ci sono riassunti in tedesco e inglese
per facilitare i turisti stranieri. La UE e il
Ministero dell’Alimentazione, Agricoltura e
Pesca hanno partecipato al finanziamento
del progetto.In questo modo Vordingborghave ha potuto produrre oltre 40 nuovi
totem informativi. Se si aggiunge poi il progetto per la segnaletica dell’Agenzia per la
Cultura dedicato alle tombe megalitiche di
Vestmøn e i cartelli precedentemente realizzati, si contano oltre 50 segnalazioni nei siti
archeologici della zona. La municipalità di
Vordingborg si prende cura dei monumenti
antichi e si assicura che appaiano sempre al
meglio al pubblico dei visitatori.

Colossal ice glaciers and streams of melted
water shaped the landscape that characterizes Møn and South Zealand today. Now
there are rolling hills and steep slopes, deep
clay and lean but species-rich meadows. In
the east, are Møns Klint's towering chalk
cliffs. In the west, Avnø stretches out, at
one with the horizon. At the Baltic Sea are
windswept clay slopes. And between the
islands are narrow waters with green shores
and beautiful fjords.

for up-and-coming chefs in the Nordic

Serves 4
½ litre of milk
½ leek
3 sprigs of thyme
2 pcs. fresh bay leaves
1 pc. shallots
1 bundle of ramson
sea salt
ONION PURÉ
4 large onions
25 grams of butter
sea salt
METHOD:
RAMSON MOUSSE: Cut leek and onion into suitable pieces and roast them gently in a little butter, without the onions changing colour. Add
milk, bay leaves and thyme. Boil and let simmer
for fifteen minutes. Blend the mixture with ramson, season with salt and put through a sieve.
Blend it all with the mixer before serving.
Onion purée: Chop the onions and toast them in
butter. Caramelize them and fry them soft. Blend
smooth with salt and press it through a sieve into a smooth puree.
FRIED WILD ONION: Clean the onions. Keep the root, so they look as natural as possible.
Roast them golden brown in a little butter and season.

Butter for frying
ROASTED, PICKLED ONION SKINS: Cut the onions in quarters and then divide them once more
in small shells. Roast them in a burning hot pan without any oil until the shells are completely
black. Boil up sugar, vinegar and herbs and pour over the onion shells. Let it pickle for at least
a few hours before serving.

150 grams sugar
150 ml apple vinegar
peppercorns
2 bay leaves
RAMSON CAPERS: Blanch and pickle in a bit of the above-made pickle (preferably a few days
before).
Garnish the dish with small fledgling ramson shoots and, if possible, chive flowers.
If it is outside the ramson season, the ramson can easily be replaced by another herb, such as
parsley, lovage, tarragon, etc.

happily take up the challenges in various cooking competitions, competing with some of the best cooks in the
country
Negli ultimi anni, Møn e la Selandia del Sud hanno davvero lasciato il segno in campo gastronomico. Molti dei nostri
ristoranti non solo hanno ricevuto premi onorari, ma hanno anche formato nuovi cuochi, giovani e di talento, che
fiduciosamente si mettono alla prova in vari concorsi di cucina, entrando in competizione con alcuni dei migliori cuochi del paese.
At the acclaimed Restaurant Babette in Vordingborg, the guests will
be presented with a new and innovative cuisine which, while still
reflecting the restaurant’s signature when it comes to taste, quality
and respect for raw materials, will present new aesthetic, tones, textures and overall impression.
Behind the new presentation stand - apart from the chef Vivi Schou the two young cooks, Mikkel Højborg Olsen and Emil Thybo Bahr.
Mikkel Højborg Olsen has been virtually ‘raised’ at Babette. He began
his career as a dishwasher, but soon got a taste for more and began
to learn the art of the chef. After getting his apprenticeship, he worked at different restaurants, but now he is back at Babette.
Emil Thybo Bahr came to Restaurant Babette in 2011. He comes
from Kolding and was trained at a top retaurant in Taulov. After working at the restaurant, he went to work at Michelin-class top Spanish
restaurants and won first place in a major competition for young
chefs in Spain.
In 2012, they both won the prestigious ‘Potato Prize’, with a first
place for Mikkel and third place for Emil
Mikkel Højborg Olsen & Emil Thybo Bahr,

Mikkel Højborg Olsen è praticamente 'cresciuto' al Babette. Ha iniziato

cominciare a imparare l'arte dello chef. Dopo aver ottenuto l'apprendistato, ha lavorato presso diversi ristoranti, ma ora è tornato al Babette.
Emil Thybo Bahr è arrivato al Ristorante Babette nel 2011. Viene da
Kolding e si è formato in un ristorante d'eccellenza a Taulov. Dopo
questa esperienza, è andato a lavorare nei migliori ristoranti Michelin

"Liquorice Root"
Viper’s Grass
‘Pickled Liquorice’:
5 cups water
15 grams of English liquorice powder
1 tablespoon sugar syrup
dried mushroom powder
METHOD:
Boil the Viper’s Grass until tender.
Split lengthwise into 4 equal-length pieces.
Dry in an oven for 24 hours at 50 degrees.
Boil it all up again in a liquorice pickle of water,
licorice powder and sugar-beet syrup.
Let it dry offat room temperature.
Toss in dried mushroom powder before serving.
Serve as appetizer

A celebration for herrings, a celebration of apples, a celebration of Spring – it’s one
big celebration.
At Møn and South Zealand, we celebrate
the local delicacies all year round.
Each year, in Ascension, the old square in
Præstø is packed with stalls, buskers and a
genuine Parisian atmosphere. French Spring
market in Præstø is a feast of delights featuring beautiful arts and crafts from Præstø
and surrounding regions - and of course
also from France.
In September, we celebrate the true historical origins of the town of Stege - the rich
herring harvest from the Baltic Sea. At the
annual Herring Market, fresh fish is sold
from the boats, it is fried over an open fire
(hence called ‘Black Herring’), and in the
evening a large fish buffet is served by
Gourmet Gaarden, the highly-praised
restaurant in Stege.
October is the peak season for apples. This
is when the majority of varieties of apples
are ready for harvest, and it is celebrated at
The Apple Day in Stege. You can taste the
difference in the many apple varieties. You
can ask the ‘apple doctor’ for advice on your
apple tree. And you can eat your fill of delicious apple recipes.
The festivities fall each year on the first
Sunday in September, when the Rosenfeldt
Culinary Festival takes place. On this day the
courtyard at the beautiful Rosenfeldt Estate
at Vordingborg is decked out with delicious
food and interesting arts and crafts from
Møn, Lolland, Falster and Zealand.
Make sure you experience them all…. the
tasty herrings of Stege, the scrumptious
apples and the tempting French flavours of
the Spring market in Præstø.

A settembre si celebrano le origini storiche della
città di Stege, con un grande mercato di aringhe del Mar Baltico, dove si vende pesce fresco
cotto sul fuoco (da qui Aringa Nera). La sera,
invece, il Gourmet Gaarden, ristorante molto
elogiato a Stege, serve un grande buffet di
pesce.
Ottobre invece è il mese per eccellenza delle
mele, ovvero il periodo in cui la maggior parte
delle varietà è pronta per il raccolto. In occasione della Giornata della Mela a Stege, puoi
gustare tante varietà diverse e puoi chiedere
consiglio al “dottore delle mele” sull’albero più
adatto a te, oltre che gustare tante deliziose
ricette.
La prima domenica di Settembre si svolge
anche il Rosenfeldt Culinary Festival. In questa
occasione il cortile della bellissima tenuta di
Rosenfeldt a Vordingborg si riempie di cibo
delizioso e di prodotti artigianali provenienti da
Møn, Lolland, Falster e altre zone della
Selandia.

One of the routes leads thorugh Vordingborg
Municipality, with arrival via the historic 'IDA'
ferry, crossing Grønsund and docking at Bogø
harbour. The route continues to the market
town of Stege and further on to the white
chalk cliffs of the majestic Møns Klint. Your
stay can be prolonged and spiced up with
different day trips, offering experiences and
challenges of every kind. In 2013, new bike
paths are being made which will soon connect the route from Møn to South Zealand.

a great daytrip. On the quiet roads, the trip
takes you along the coast through beautiful
and idyllic villages with old beamhouses and
hollyhocks. On the way there are good
lay-by's where you can enjoy the local foods.
There's something for the whole family!
Different challenges and the way you want to
use your time can be adapted to suit all
mebers of the family - from a cosy one day
trip to a trip stretching over days with sporty
challenges and a stay in a hotel, on a B&B or
in a shelter.
The family with small children can, for example, visit the old farm museum,
'Museumsgården', in Keldbylille, or the farm
dairy 'Møn Is' where they make ice cream or
the Garden Café in Tøvelde. The active family
with teenagers can go sailing, with a choice
between katamaran, kayak or dinghy - or play
golf on the green 9 holes (par-3) course. Enjoy

The Goose Tower

The Goose Tower
The stairs and the current entrance door
was built in 1822 when the tower first
opened to the public. The original
entrance can be seen at the height of
the original ring wall parapet walk about
6 metres above the ground.
The tower is built with a basement and
7 storeys, all with their unique story to
tell.
The walls are at the top only 75 cm
thick, but at ground level they are
approximately 3.5 metres thick.
The battlement is 26 metres high with
36 metres up to the goose, and the
tower has a circumference of 33 metres.
The copper spire was mounted during a
restoration in 1871. It is most likely that
the tower in the Middle Ages had a flat
platform in order to accommodate battle
activities such as firing with crossbows
and operating war machinery.

The landmark of Vordingborg
The Goose Tower is Vordingborg’s landmark and Denmark’s best preserved fortress
tower from the Middle Ages. It also is the largest of Valdemar Atterdag’s 9 main
towers of the castle.
During Valdemar Atterdag’s rule (1340 – 137), Vordingborg reached its peak as one
of Denmark’s largest fortresses. Even in an European context, the castle represented
quite a significant construction. Vordingborg is a majestic sight, dramatically located
in the landscape and deterrent to any enemy.
The Goose Tower was built in the period
between 1360 - 1365 and is named after a
golden goose, with which Valdemar
Atterdag was to have crowned the tower.
The goose was a symbol of the Hanseatic
towns, the main enemy of Valdemar
Atterdag. He described them as a bunch
of cackling, but harmless geese.
The golden goose that flaunts from the
spire, was placed there in 1871. The
goose, with which Valdemar Atterdag
crowned the tower, was made of pure
gold. The gold came from a ransom that
the Hanseatic towns paid for the release
of prisoners of war after a failed siege of
Helsingborg, back in 1362. According to
history, Erik of Pomerania took the gold
goose and many other treasures with him
when he fled Denmark in 1437.
Valdemar Atterdag mocked the
Hanseatic people with a limerick in

The Goose Tower was originally conceived as a fortress tower, but the remains of a brick,
barrel-vaulted ceiling in the basement suggests that it has been used to store valuables or
items requiring extra protection.
In the 15th to 17th century, the tower was used as a prison, and in 1808 - after having
been privately owned – it was handed over to Frederik VI as a Christmas present. The king
passed it on to the public, for ‘utility, use and possession’, and so The Goose Tower also
became Denmark's first protected, ancient monument.

Valdemar Atterdag, che lui stesso descriveva come un gruppo di oche schiamazzanti,
ma comunque innocue.
Posta in cima nel 1871, l’oca di Valdemar
Atterdag era in oro puro, ottenuto da un
riscatto che le città anseatiche avevano
pagato per la liberazione dei prigionieri di
guerra, dopo un assedio fallito a
Helsingborg, nel lontano 1362. Secondo la
tradizione, Erik di Pomerania quando è fuggito in Danimarca nel 1437, ha portato con
sé molti tesori, tra cui la famosa oca d'oro.

Torre dell’Oca
Le scale e l’attuale porta d'ingresso risalgono al 1822, anno in cui la torre è stata
aperta al pubblico per la prima volta. L'entrata originaria rimane invece all'altezza
del vecchio parapetto circolare, a circa 6 metri dal suolo.
La torre, con una circonferenza di 33 metri, è costituita da un seminterrato e da 7
piani, ognuno con la propria storia da raccontare.
Le pareti in alto hanno uno spessore di 75 cm, mentre al livello del suolo sono
spesse circa 3,5 metri. Il parapetto è alto 26 metri mentre l’oca d’oro è posta 36
metri più in alto.
La guglia in rame è stata fissata in occasione di un restauro nel 1871. Molto probabilmente nel Medioevo la torre aveva anche una pedana per ospitare varie attività belliche, come il tiro con balestra e l'uso di macchine da guerra.
In origine la Torre dell’Oca era stata concepita come torre di fortezza, ma nel seminterrato i resti del soffitto in mattone e a
volte lasciano intendere che la torre è stata
utilizzata anche per custodire importanti
oggetti di valore.
Dal 15° al 17° secolo la torre è stata usata
come prigione, mentre nel 1808 – dopo
esser passata a proprietà privata – è stata
donata a Frederik VI come regalo di Natale.
Il re l’ha consegnata al popolo facendo così
della Torre dell’Oca la prima antica costruzione protetta della Danimarca.

The South Zealand town of Vordingborg
is known for its festivals and cultural
events. Each year, an eclectic programme of the highest quality is presented,
spanning music, theatre, culture and
festivals for people of all ages and with
different interests.
Vordingborg is both a market town as well
as the capital of the municipality, which
includes South Zealand, Præstø, Møn and
the surrounding islands.
Vordingborg is an ancient town with a rich
history. The ruins of the old castle which
was the home of the three Valdemar kings,
now makes the setting for the upcoming
Danish Castle Centre with the Goose Tower
as its landmark. To view the historical, botanic garden is good reason to visit the castle
ramparts. The town church, ‘Church of Our
Lady’ dates back to 1388. It is situated at
the church meadow, where the remains of a
moat extends to the castle ruins. The peninsula of Oringe is a small, hidden and green
haven for the town residents. Along the
coast of Storstrømmen lies the popular Ore
Beach.
The contemporary history of Vordingborg
includes the local television station TV2, the
high school, the business school, the college, the Cultural Arcade and the railway station. Algade is full of shops of various sorts.
Every year in July, the whole town is buzzing
at Vordingborg Festival Week. In August
2013, the international theatre festival

Galleria Culturale e la stazione dei treni. Per
lo shopping invece consigliamo i graziosi
negozi lungo la strada chiamata Algade.
Infine i Festival: ogni anno a luglio la città
presenta la Vordingborg Festival Week mentre
nell’agosto del 2013 ci sarà Waves, il festival
internazionale dedicato al teatro.

In the summer, Stege buzzes with life,
trade and family entertainment. Like
only a few other Danish provincial
towns, Stege beams out atmosphere
and creativity with galleries, shops,
restaurants, cafés, Møn’s local brewery,
arts and crafts, wellness and all kinds of
local specialities. The proactive trade
union of Møn pushes the boat out every
year and indulges the whole town in
colourful market days, exciting events
and seasonal festivals.
Visit Stege in the summer – every Tuesday
the whole town is transformed into one big
pedestrian street with activities and special
offers for the whole family. In the centre of
Stege you will find Liza's Gallery, situated in
one of the oldest beamhouses in the market town. The gallery is run by the artist
couple Rupert Sutton and Liza Krügermeier,
and throughout the years it has developed
into an acclaimed exhibition place, attracting
acknowledged artists from Denmark and
abroad. Visitors can as such always expect
exciting and varied art exhibitions in the
charming surroundings in Farverstræde.
Stege’s restaurants and cafés are equal to
the ones you find in the capital. You will
discover ‘Cakes with Tastes’, coffee & tea
specialities, light lunches and first class á la
carte menus in restaurants such as Gourmet
Gaarden. This gourmet restaurant has
recently been graded with a 4 star award by

Stege has always been – and still is
today – the trading centre for Møn and
South Zealand. The herring boom of the
Middle Ages made the town prosper, and
this has inspired the Herring market in
Stege which takes place in September.
If you follow the Herring trail through Stege,
you will pass the historic point of interest,
Mølleporten, the medieval moats and
Empiregården which houses the town
museum. You are guaranteed to get a sense
of the grandeur of former times in this old
medieval town!
After a stroll, you can recharge your batteries with a scrumptious meal in one of
Stege’s cafés or restaurants. Follow the
main street Storegade with its three
beautiful squares, and take a peek at the
courtyards, e.g. Luffes Gård that houses
Møn’s own brewery. Go hunting for special
offers and personal souvenirs in some of
the town’s numerous shops.
If you come to Stege in the summer, we
suggest that you take a look around the
Tuesday market when the whole town reverberates with trade, entertainment and

H.C. Andersen, Grundtvig and Thorvaldsen
often visited this region, and Thorvaldsen
crafted quite a number of his works in his studio at Nysø Manor, which today is known for
its fine art collection. Stop at the harbour and

filled the harbour. At Præstø harbour, the charming, old warehouses have been restored.

A nature and culture project around Præstø Fiord
‘Nature Room Præstø Fjord’ is the title of a project that aims to provide a unique
open fjord landscape for a wider audience. The project was to establish more information posts along the fiord, open to all, and suitable for visits and experiences.
Under the name “8 Nature Rooms”, it includes new facilities, information and communication
Each Nature Room has its own facilities and
possibilities, but all of them includes the socalled fiord posts; information panels that
illustrate the place via beautiful illustrations
of nature, culture, etc.
3 of the 8 posts are established in the
Vordingborg municipality:
• Even
• Præstø Beach
• Roneklint
At Præstø Beach there is now a disabled
toilet, two information rooms with seating;
and work is underway to establish a nature
base on the spot. Exciting communication
boards presents life in and around Præstø
Fiord and outlines the town’s history.
Positioned there is one fiord post, two
tables/benches and there is an outdoor grill,
drinking water etc.
At Even, there is a fjord post, table/bench
and large landscape binoculars. In addition,
there is availability for barbecue activities, the
possibility of lifting / loading the canoe / kayak
At Roneklint there has been established a
lunch room and an exhibition in an old
lighthouse. There are benches and binoculars
and a fiord post panel.

in 2008 a pilot project on
‘Nature Rooms’ in Denmark. Nature Room
Præstø Fiord was selected as one of five
pilot projects in Denmark. The project
came into being on the basis of cooperation between the three municipalities:
Faxe, Næstved and Vordingborg.

immagini della natura, della cultura ecc.

• a Roneklint
A Even, c’è un messaggio del fiordo, una panchina e un grande binocolo per ammirare il
paesaggio. Inoltre c’è la possibilità di fare barbecue, attività con canoa o kayak e di alloggiare nei verdi dintorni.
Sulla spiaggia di Præstø sono stati installati
dei servizi igienici per disabili e due punti
informazioni. Vivaci pannelli informativi illustrano la vita al fiordo e vicino a Præsto e raccontano la storia del posto. Vi è installato un messaggio del fiordo, due panchine, un grill e c'è
dell'acqua potabile.
A Roneklint è stata installata una sala da
pranzo e una mostra al vecchio faro. Ci sono
poi panchine, binocoli e naturalmente un pannello con il messaggio del fiordo.

When Bent and Anne Grethe Warrer in
2000 visited Møn, they immediately fell
in love with an impressive, old farmhouse with no less than 1000m2 stable buildings. It was a big change, moving from
the brand new house with floor heating
in Copenhagen to the dream house in the
country. But the family has never had
second thoughts. On the contrary, the
daughter Christel is now on board, and
together they have built Møn’s largest
gallery with more than 450 m2 exhibition
space, café and fashion shop.
Quando Bent e Anne-Grethe Warrer visitarono Møn nel 2000, si innamorarono immediatamente di una vecchia,interessante fattoria con 1000 m2 di stalle. È stato un
gran cambiamento, trasferirsi da una casa
di nuova costruzione con riscaldamento a
pannelli a Copenaghen a una casa da sogno

Cantabile 2 is an internationally recognized
performance theatre based in the former
sugar factory in Stege. The theatre is run by
Italian Nullo Facchini and was founded in
Italy back in 1983. In 1984, the theatre came
to Denmark where it was situated in
Copenhagen until 1990. Thereafter it became
the regional theatre of Vordingborg.

made 'Culture Experience 2012' by one of
the leading Danish television channels.
International theatre Biennale 2013,
'Waves Festival'
Since 1991, Cantabile 2 has arranged the
international Biennale, 'Waves Festival', in
Vordingborg. The Festival presents about 80
in and outdoor performances, stretching
over 8 days. Add to that workshops, symposiums about theatre art and debates. The
latest 'Waves Festival' in 2011 had about
22.000 visitors from near and far. In August
2013 the 'Waves Festival' takes place again,
this time with the title 'Play the Game'.

aspect of the event is that it concentrates
on one author. The Nobel Prize Winner
Günter Grass was the first guest author

Lars Saabye Christensen,
Ben Okri and Haruki
Murakami just to mention
a few. This year, the literary guest is the russian
author Mikhail Sjiskjin.

Negli ultimi anni il Festival della Letteratura
Internazionale a Møn è diventato ormai
una tradizione. L’aspetto eccezionale
dell’evento è che si focalizza su un unico
autore: tra i vari ospiti, il vincitore del
Premio Nobel Günter Grass, nell’anno
2000, e nelle edizioni successive Amos Oz,
Fay Weldon, Lars Saabye Christensen, Ben
Okri e Haruki Murakami, giusto per citarne
alcuni. Quest’anno l’ospite letterario sarà
lo scrittore russo Mikhail Sjiskjin e l’evento
si svolgerà in un padiglione allestito nella
foresta di Fanefjord.

Since it began, Oremandsgaard Chamber
Music Festival has held more than 150 concerts. Several Danish prime performances and
a long row of talented artists from Denmark
and abroad have guested the estate throughout the years. The concerts take place on 5
evenings at the end of July in the estate's
‘Whittle School’ in Kragevig at South Zealand.

Each year, the Music Society ’Cæcilia’ arranges a series of chamber, symphony and
opera concerts in different music venues in
Møn and South Zealand. In Møn, the musical
summer highlight is the open air concert in
the atmospheric park at Liselund.

Bente Bille and Henrik Hjortkær have
spent many years collecting historic
items of all sorts. Together, they have
created a unique collection which they
wanted to preserve, develop and display
to the world in a thriving and vibrant
way. As one of the local area's last, old
factory buildings – the old powder milk
factory in Stege - became available, it
was clear that this would be the perfect
place for ‘Thorsvang’ – Denmark’s
Collectors Museum.
Thorsvang is based on volunteering work
by people who have put work behind
them but still want to use their experience
and skills. Without their help and great
work effort, the project simply could not
function. The volunteering pensioners will
also be an important part of the living
history that the museum will present for
the audience.
Since the autumn of 2012, around 40 to
50 pensioners have put hundreds of working hours into the project. Every day, 10
to 20 volunteers are in the process of
restoring old coffee grinders, lathes and
even a complete hairdresser’s salon from
the twenties. When the museum is ready
to open, it will also contain a whole bank
from the 1920s, a grocery shop and lots
more. The museum is expected to open
this summer in 2013.

hanno collezionato oggetti storici di
ogni tipo, creando una collezione unica,
da arricchire ed esibire al pubblico in
modo vivace e originale. Quando in una
delle aree industriali si è liberata la vecchia fabbrica di latte in polvere a Stege,
i due collezionisti vi hanno subito visto
il posto ideale per “Thorsvang” – Il
Museo delle Collezioni della Danimarca.
Alla base del progetto di Thorsvang c’è
l’impegno volontario di tanta gente in
pensione ma che ha ancora voglia di mettere al servizio degli altri la propria esperienza e le proprie competenze. Senza il
loro aiuto e il loro grande sforzo, il progetto semplicemente non esisterebbe. I pensionati rappresenteranno, infatti, una parte
importante della storia vivente che sarà in
mostra al museo.
Dall'autunno del 2012, circa 40-50 pensionati hanno dedicato centinaia di ore a
questo progetto. Ogni giorno, una ventina
di volontari restaura vecchi macinacaffè,
torni e perfino un salone di parrucchiere
degli anni Venti. Quando il museo sarà
pronto per l’inaugurazione, ci sarà anche
un intero banco del 1920, un negozio di
generi alimentari e molto altro ancora.
L’apertura del museo è prevista per l’estate 2013.

In 2013, no less than two new museum
experiences open, one in the largest and
one in the smallest museums in the
Vordingborg municipality.
In Vordingborg, right next to the city's
landmark ‘The Goosetower’, Denmark’s
Castle Centre opens its doors to provide
research material together with a modern
digital presentation of castle history in
Denmark.
On the island of Nyord the pace slows
down a little and the story is more humble. In the historical observation post,
‘Møllestangen’, Nyord’s local historical
society has arranged an exhibition about
the boat pilots' history on the island.

Nel 2013 ci saranno due nuove esperienze
da vivere: una nel museo più piccolo e una
in quello più grande della municipalità di
Vordingborg. Partiamo dal più grande,
infatti a Vordingborg, proprio accanto al
simbolo della città, La Torre dell’Oca, il
Denmark’s Castle Centre apre le sue porte
per fornire materiale di ricerca e presentazioni digitali della storia dei castelli in
Danimarca.
Sull’isola di Nyord invece la società storiografica locale racconta l’umile e faticosa
storia dei piloti delle barche dell’isola
attraverso una mostra allestita nel piccolo
punto di osservazione chiamato
‘Møllestangen’.

An amazing variety of Denmark’s and
Europe’s most magnificent frescos.
In the churches of Fanefjord, Elmelunde and
Keldby you will be able to study the peasantry of the 1400’s depicted in colourful and
fantastic frescos. Church architecture of the
1700’s is brilliantly represented in the rococo
church at Damsholte.

variopinti e fantasiosi affreschi ritraggono gli
abitanti del XV secolo. Il particolare stile

The Elmelunde master
In late 1400 an unknown artist started decorating the Elmelunde church on Møn. This artist
later got the byname The Elmelunde Master`
from this particular church. The theme of his
many frescos is the creation and recreation of
man illustrated by scenes from the Bible, particularly from the New Testament. Added to this
are legends and motifs from everyday life
(ploughing, hunting). In these murals, you get
a firsthand illustration of the life and times of
the late Middle Ages. Moreover many other
beautiful churches on Møn and South Zealand
are worth a visit.
Il maestro di Elmelunde
Alla fine del XV secolo un artista sconosciuto
iniziò ad affrescare la chiesa di Elmelunde a
Møn e venne poi in seguito chiamato ”il
maestro di Elmelunde”. Il tema in molti degli
affreschi è la creazione dell’uomo illustrata con
scene prese dalla Bibbia, per lo piu` il Nuovo
Testamento, supportate da leggende e motivi
dalla vita quotidiana (caccia, aratura). Queste
decorazioni tardo-medievali danno una vivida
impressione degli usi e costumi dell’epoca.

Kalvehave Labyrinth Park offers a day full
of activities for both children and adults,
completely without stress and long queues.
Try the 1300 m2 Ivy Maze or the 5000 m2
Labyrinth Planet on the field, where you can
learn about the solar system. The Minefield
Mazes make a great family activity. In the
Racing Maze it is all about being fit. At the
café terrace you can enjoy a well-deserved
break - but do not count on the children to
join you for long.
The sweet factory Møn Bolcher in Stege and
the ice cream dairy Møn Is in Råbylille are
some of the summer’s best places to visit for
every family with children. Both places are
professional production companies with a
sweet touch and experiences for all. From
Møn Bolcher’s tempting shop, you can look
directly into the production room, where
children can make their own lollipops. At Møn
Is you can taste the delicious ice creams, visit
the calf stable and enjoy the beautiful views
across the fields.
This year, Møn’s Kite Festival takes place
Saturday the 14th of September 2013 from
12.00 to 18.00. It is a joyful tradition where
local families and tourists meet and fly their
kites in the air above Mandemarke Bakker. It
is a nice and relaxed activity for kite enthusiasts of all ages.
In the footsteps of Svend Gønge. Way
back in history lived Svend Poulsen Gønge, a
Danish captain who – in about 1645 - was
nicknamed Chief Gønge, when he functioned
as head of the ‘Snapphanes’ during the
Danish-Swedish wars. On the 17th and 18th
of August 2013, this part of history is celebrated at the Gønge Market in Lundby.

Il festival dell’aquilone di Møn. Quest’anno
il tradizionale festival dell’aquilone di Møn,
dove turisti e famiglie del posto fanno volare in
aria i loro aquiloni, sopra Mandemarke Bakker,
si svolgerà sabato 14 settembre 2013, dalle 12
alle 18.Una giornata piacevole e rilassante per
gli appassionati di aquiloni, grandi e piccini.

Go back in time. Experience the unique fortifications of the Stevns fortress from the
Cold War with 1.6 km of corridors placed 18
metres deep underground.
During the Cold War it was the Stevns fortress’ mission to shut off the Eastern bloc
access to the Baltic and also to keep track
of all the Eastern bloc movements in the
Baltic Sea. From 1980, the Stevns fortress
became a warning station for NATO and, in
order to accomplish this task, a new fully
automatic surveillance room was established
underground, the so-called ‘O-Space’. At the
same time, the Esk. 541 arrived with its
HAWK missiles. In 2000, all activities were
shut down and today the site makes one of
the most interesting museums in the region.

Stevns, roccaforte militare risalente al periodo
della Guerra Fredda: 1.6 km di corridoi a 18
metri di profondità.
Durante la Guerra Fredda, la missione degli
uomini della fortezza di Stevn era di impedire
al blocco sovietico l’accesso al Baltico e di
sorvegliare tutti i movimenti che il “nemico”
faceva in questa parte di mondo. Negli anni
‘80 la fortezza divenne una stazione d’allarme della NATO armata con missili HAWK e
dotata di una sala di sorveglianza sotterranea
completamente automatizzata, la cosiddetta
‘O-Space’. Le attività militari furono dismesse
nel 2000 e il sito è ora un interessante e originale museo.
Geomuseum Faxe
Travel back 63 million years in time to when
Denmark was covered by sea, when a large
coral reef grew exactly where Faxe lies
today. Here lived sharks and crocodiles
along with more than 500 other kinds of
animals.
On Geomuseum Faxe you can see animal
fossils and learn about the 900 years of
broken limestone that used to be the ancient coral reefs.
You can also go fossil hunting in Faxe
Limestone Quarry and find your own 63 million year-old fossils.

Camping Mønbroen is situated close to
Queen Alexandrine’s Bridge, which connects Møn and South Zealand. Lone and
Jens Wedele Petersen bought the campsite and Koster Færgegård back in 2008.
The family runs an organic farm on the
site and is in the process of turning the
campsite into a retreat for nature lovers.
Kayakers especially are thrilled with the position, as the site makes a unique starting point
for many different trips including various difficulty levels. There are kayak jetties and the
possibility for renting kayaks with equipment.
You can row along the coast into Stege, the
'capital' of Møn, and further around to the
island of Nyord, then cross Bøgestrømmen
and sail along Zealand to Kalvehave and back
to the site. It is a great trip for the experienced rower.
The site is a so-called nature site, inviting for
children to fish at the seashore or from the
jetty. Two bonfire places and a small playground make the setting for family activities,
and the camping shop sells not only all the
necessary groceries, but also its own imported wine.
The camping sites on Møn and in South
Zealand invite for unforgettable holiday experiences close to nature. Whether you want to
stay close to the majestic, white cliffs or
directly in the dunes at Ulsvhale beach with
the forest as your neighbour, then you are
always close to interesting experiences, good
service and the perfect holiday in the open
air.

ponte della Regina Alessandra, che collega
Møn alla Selandia del Sud. Lone e Jens
Wedele Petersen hanno acquistato l’area
del campeggio e Koster Færgegård nel
2008. La famiglia gestisce una fattoria biologica sul posto e sta trasformando il campeggio in una vera e propria oasi per gli
amanti della natura.
In particolare, per gli appassionati di kayak è il
posto ideale per via della posizione che lo rende
un ottimo punto di partenza per tante gite ed
escursioni con diverso livello di difficoltà. Ci sono
banchine per kayak a noleggio ed è possibile
richiedere anche l’equipaggio.
Si può remare lungo la costa verso Stege, la
capitale di Møn, e spingersi verso l’isola di
Nyord, attraversare Bøgestrømmen e andare in
barca a vela verso Kalvehav, e poi tornare indietro. Una fantastica gita per esperti canottieri.
Questo posto è un cosiddetto sito naturale, ed è
l’ideale per attività per famiglie, i bambini ad
esempio possono pescare sulle rive del mare o
sul molo. Dispone di due aree per falò e un piccolo parco giochi, e il negozietto del campeggio
oltre a vendere tutti gli alimentari di base propone anche il vino locale.
I campeggi a Møn e nella Selandia del Sud offrono vacanze indimenticabili e tante esperienze
nella natura. Che tu voglia stare vicino alle
maestose falesie bianche o direttamente sulle
dune di sabbia a Ulsvhale a due passi dal bosco,

Camping Mønbroen is uniquely situated
close to Ulvsund. The site is quiet with a cosy
atmosphere and it is ideal for small boats,
kayaks and windsurfing. It is possible to go
swimming from either pontoon or bathing
jetty. There is a playground and beach volley
area, shop/kiosk and laundry. Also available:
renting of tent wagons and kayaks. Other
activities include biodynamic farming and
sale of seaweed for roofs, insulation and
thatched roof ridges.

The place we are talking about could only
be Holberggaard.
It has herbal gardens with edible flowers,
old fruit trees and wild berries, even its
own crayfish lake. It has a bathing area
and a petanque field, a sunset terrace
with a view over Storstrømmen – not to
mention the various buildings on the
site, ranging from the beautifully renovated manor building to the finest small
guesthouse built on traditional granite
boulders right down to modern, bright
meeting and training rooms.
Holberggaard is located in Bakkebølle in
southern Zealand, near the bridges of Farø
link to the Fehmarn Belt to the south and
the capital to the north - a stone's throw
from Vordingborg city and a short trip from
the White Cliffs of Møn.
Jesper Brinkløv, the owner and a trained chef,
has gone about his work with professionalism and a love for detail. Holberggaard offers
course and conference facilities of the
highest quality for up to 50 people.
It offers accommodation in 13 rooms with a
total of 32 beds. The place is so evocative
that it would be a shame to only use it for
work purposes. Here is the perfect setting for
the most beautiful parties and celebrations.

The kitchen has its very own philosophy

regarding the use of raw materials, from their
neighbours and from the area as a whole.
During the crayfish season in AugustSeptember, only the largest specimens are
used in the kitchen so that the natural
ecological cycle of repopulation is preserved.
The large crayfish is served, simply prepared flavored with sugar, salt, coriander, dill and
onions and served with bread, butter and a
fresh chilled white wine.

parlare della Fattoria Holberg.
Immersa in un giardino ricco di piante
ed erbe aromatiche, vecchi alberi da
frutto e bacche selvatiche, la Fattoria
Holberg ha persino il suo laghetto di
crostacei; dispone di un’area balneabile
e di un campo da bocce, ma anche di
una terrazza per ammirare il tramonto,
con vista su Storstrømmen - per non
parlare delle strutture adiacenti, dal
maniero accuratamente rinnovato alle
piccole dependance per gli ospiti
costruite in pietre di granito, fino alle
moderne e luminose sale congresso.
La Fattoria Holberg è situata a Bakkebølle
nella Selandia del Sud, vicino al ponte di Farø
e all’autostrada che porta al Fehmarn Belt - a
due passi dalla città di Vording-borg e a poca
distanza dalle scogliere di Møn.
Jesper Brinkløv, proprietario della fattoria
nonché abile cuoco, porta avanti la sua
attività con professionalità e cura per il
dettaglio. La Fattoria Holberg dispone di 13
camere, per un totale di 32 posti letto e
mette a disposizione anche strutture per
corsi e convegni in grado di accogliere fino a
50 persone.
Ma la fattoria è talmente graziosa che
sarebbe un peccato viverla esclusivamente
per motivi di lavoro. L’ambientazione infatti
si presta perfettamente a location per feste
e cerimonie, e per chi intende visitare
Vordingborg, Møn e la Selandia del Sud è il
posto ideale in cui soggiornare.
La cucina ha una propria filosofia riguardo
all’uso di materie prime, provenienti dall’intera area circostante. Nel clou della stagione
dei granchi, agosto/settembre, vengono usati
in cucina solo gli esemplari più grossi, in
modo da preservare il ciclo naturale della
ripopolazione. Ed ecco servito un ottimo
granchio, condito semplicemente con un
pizzico di zucchero, sale, aneto e cipolla, e
portato in tavola con pane, burro e un
bicchiere di vino bianco.
