Newsletter n° 32 - MAY 9 2016
Dear IS Modena families,
Thank you for your cooperation with our special packed lunch day on Friday. Our younger students were in a
delightful frenzy all day asking about lunch time immediately as they arrived to class in the morning. All our
students and staff enjoyed a picnic style lunch outdoors thanks to the wonderful weather.
Our Grade 6 students have been working very hard on their PYP Exhibition: following Ms. Thomson’s guidelines,
listening to advice from their mentors, working with their parents and challenging their creativity in order to
surprise us with their displays. The Grade 6 PYP Exhibition will be unveiled to ISM students on Wednesday 11th and
will be open to Grade 6 parents the following day, Thursday, May 12th at 13:30. The PYP Exhibition is a very
significant milestone for our Primary Students and to allow our whole school community to celebrate the work of
our Grade 6 students, the PYP Exhibition will be open to visitors after school from Friday, May 13th. Due to logistics
the PYP Exhibition will be displayed in the school corridor on Friday 13th and then moved into the Grade 6
classroom from Monday 16th onwards.
Lots of MYP smiley faces showed up at pick-up time last Friday. Our MYP students and staff returned from their
fabulous residential trip in Andalusia full of exciting stories to share with their families.
A huge thank you goes to the hardworking chaperones on the trip: Ms. Forti, Ms. Searle, Mr. Groppi and Mr.
Berriman.
This week’s edition encloses news and feedback from our very active Student Council – don’t miss their news and
updates – keep on reading.
Last but not least, today the PTA has organized the yearly Teacher/Staff appreciation day. Many thanks to the
fantastic cooks who have been working hard on preparing delicious dishes for all of our teachers and staff.

Vi ringraziamo della Vs collaborazione in occasione della speciale giornata con pranzi al sacco venerdì. I nostri
studenti più piccoli sono stati in grande agitazione tutto il giorno, e hanno chiesto del pranzo non appena entrati in
classe. Tutti gli studenti e lo staff si sono goduti un pranzo stile picnic all’aperto, grazie al tempo bellissimo.
I nostri studenti di Grade 6 stanno lavorando duramente alla preparazione della Exhibition: seguono le linee guida
di Ms Thomson, ascoltano i consigli dei loro mentori, lavorano con i loro genitori e mettono alla prova la propria
creatività per sorprenderci con i loro display. La Exhibition di Grade 6 sarà presentata mercoledì 11 maggio agli
studenti ISM mentre sarà aperta ai genitori di Grade 6 il giorno seguente, giovedì 12 maggio alle 13.30. La
Exhibition PYP è una tappa fondamentale per i nostri studenti di Primary Years e per consentire a tutta la comunità
scolastica di celebrare il lavoro dei ragazzi di Grade 6, sarà aperta ai visitatori a partire da venerdì 13 dopo l’orario
scolastico. Per questioni logistiche la Exhibition PYP sarà collocata nel corridoio venerdì 13 poi spostata nella classe
di Grade 6 a partire da lunedì 16 maggio.
Tanti visi sorridenti dei nostri studenti MYP si sono visti all’orario di fine lezioni venerdì scorso. I nostri studenti ed
insegnanti MYP hanno fatto rientro dalla loro gita in Andalusia con tante storie interessanti da condividere con le
famiglie. Un enorme ringraziamento per il loro grande impegno va agli accompagnatori: Ms. Forti, Ms. Searle, Mr.
Groppi e Mr. Berriman.
Questa edizione della newsletter include informazioni da parte del nostro attivissimo Consiglio Studentesco: non
perdetevi le loro notizie ed aggiornamenti, continuate la lettura.
Infine, oggi il PTA ha organizzato l’annuale Giornata di apprezzamento di insegnanti e staff. Ringraziamo i fantastici
chef che hanno dedicato il loro tempo a preparare piatti deliziosi per tutti noi.

PYP Exhibition
Thursday, May 12th - Grade 6 PYP Exhibition (Auditorium) open to Grade 6 parents only from
13:00.
Giovedì, 12 maggio - Mostra espositiva PYP del Grade 6 (Auditorium), aperta ai soli genitori di
Grade 6 dalle 13:00.
Friday, May 13th - Grade 6 PYP Exhibition will be visible in the school corridor and open to
visitors after school from 15:15 onwards. The Exhibition will be open to visitors after school all of
the following week (May 16-20) in the Grade 6 classroom.
Venerdì, 13 maggio - Mostra espositiva PYP del Grade 6 nel corridoio della scuola, visitabile

SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL @IS MILAN
On Tuesday May 17th IS MILAN will present their fifth annual Shakespeare Festival. This year welcoming
teachers, parents and students from Monza, Modena and TASIS (as well as their very own Baranzate
campus). Visitors can expect to see performances in a variety of locations around the school and in a
variety of different styles. Macbeth, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello and more will be
presented in both traditional and contemporary forms. IS Modena students from Grade 8, 9 and 10/11
will be participating in this year’s edition.
Martedì 17 maggio, IS MILAN presenterà il suo quinto Shakespeare Festival. Quest’anno ospiteranno
insegnanti, genitori e studenti da Monza, Modena e TASIS oltre ai loro studenti del Campus di Baranzate.
Le rappresentazioni si avvicenderanno in diversi spazi nella scuola e con stili differenti . Macbeth, Amleto,
Sogno di una notte di mezza estate, Otello ed altri…. Verranno presentati nella versione tradizionale e
moderna. Le ns. classi di Grade 8, 9, 10/11 parteciperanno in questa edizione.
STUDENT COUNCIL
NEWS
A fundamental part of the Student Council’s principles is to keep ongoing projects in our
school community in order to help people across the world. For this reason we are asking
you to support our work with Porta Aperta and CEFA.
Porta Aperta is a local charity based in Modena which helps people in difficulty as well as
refugees to provide food, clothing, shelter and other items. We have worked with this
charity for many years and we’ve seen evidence of how highly successful our campaigns
are in order to bring our action straight to the people. We have a few mothers in the school
who do voluntary work in Porta Aperta and we have also received great feedback from
them regarding Porta Aperta’s initiatives. From the 23rd to 27th of May we will organise a
collection of sanitary items such as toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, toothbrushes,
toilet paper, razorblades, shaving foam etc. Any contribution will be valued by our school
community as well as by Porta Aperta.
Since last year the school has worked with CEFA, a non-governmental organisation focusing
on bringing food and education to underprivileged people across the world. Last year the
Student Council collected funds to provide scholarships for four girls in Guatemala. These
children would have been unable to go to school for various reasons and we believe that by
providing an education we are giving what is essential to create a sustaining future. As we
want to continue providing scholarships for these girls, on the 9th of June the Student
Council will organise a Sponsored run where your children will be able to run laps of the
playground, being sponsored a certain amount by family members for each lap. We would
love for you to be aware of this initiative and inform anyone who might be willing to
sponsor your child.
Until now, thanks to the collaboration of you all, we’ve raised 680.86 Euro (259,50 St
Valentine’s non uniform day, 421,36 Book Week non uniform day). We are more than half
way to the total amount of money that we need for the 4 scholarships!

NEWS
Una componente fondamentale dei principi dello Student Council è di dare continuità a
progetti già esistenti nella nostra comunità scolastica per aiutare altre persone nel mondo.
Per questo motivo vi chiediamo di sostenere il nostro impegno con PORTA APERTA e CEFA.
Porta Aperta è un’associazione che opera a livello locale, situata a Modena, che aiuta
persone in difficoltà e anche rifugiati, fornendo cibo, vestiti, un rifugio ed altro. Abbiamo
lavorato con questa associazione per molti anni e abbiamo avuto prova di quanto le nostre
campagne siano state fruttuose per dare alle persone voglia di agire direttamente. C’è
qualche mamma della nostra scuola che fa lavoro volontario a Porta Aperta e ci ha
comunicato quanto le iniziative di questa associazione siano lodevoli. Dal 23 al 27 maggio
organizzeremo una raccolta di prodotti per l’igiene personale da donare a Porta Aperta:
dentifrici, spazzolini, shampoo, bagnoschiuma, lamette e schiuma da barba, carta
igienica, etc. Ogni vostro contributo sarà tenuto in grande considerazione dalla nostra
scuola e da Porta Aperta.
Già dall’anno scorso la nostra scuola ha collaborato con CEFA, un’organizzazione non
governativa impegnata a portare cibo ed educazione a persone sfortunate attorno al
mondo. L’anno scorso lo Student Council ha raccolto fondi sufficienti a garantire una borsa
di studio a quattro ragazze in Guatemala. Queste bambine non avrebbero potuto andare a
scuola a causa di diversi motivi e noi crediamo che, dando loro la possibilità di istruirsi,
diamo loro ciò che è essenziale per crearsi un futuro sostenibile. Siccome vogliamo
continuare a garantire a queste ragazze le loro borse di studio, il 9 giugno lo Student
Council organizzerà una Sponsored run (una corsa da sponsorizzare), in cui i vostri bambini
potranno fare dei giri di corsa nel cortile esterno della scuola, ricevendo dalla loro famiglia
una certa somma di denaro per ogni giro che porteranno a termine. Vorremmo chiedervi di
tenere a mente questa iniziativa e di informare chiunque avesse piacere di finanziare il
vostro bambino e la sua corsa.
Fino ad oggi, grazie alla collaborazione di tutti voi, abbiamo raccolto 680,86 euro (259,50
per il giorno senza uniforme di San Valentino e 421,36 per quello della Book Week). Siamo
a più di metà della somma necessaria per le quattro borse di studio!

PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS ARE LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME
Except for the very young children, we expect the students to keep track of their own
belongings. Please discuss this with them. If your child arrives home with clothing or
something else that belongs to another student, please return it to school the next day.
A lost property (Lost & Found Box) is located temporarily in the Medical Room, feel free to
check it for missing items and please keep it tidy.

Ad eccezione dei bambini molto piccoli, ci aspettiamo che gli studenti tengano controllati i loro
effetti personali. Discutetene con Vostro figlio. Se Vostro figlio arriva a casa con abbigliamento o
altri oggetti che appartengono ad altri studenti, siete pregati di restituirli a scuola il giorno
seguente.
Gli oggetti smarriti (Scatola degli Oggetti Smarriti) si trova temporaneamente nel locale
infermeria, controllate liberamente e mantenetelo in ordine.
PARKING AREA
All parents must use the public parking area outside the school gate at all times.
Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you don’t leave any personal
belongings in the car.
Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus service.
PARCHEGGIO ESTERNO
Tutti i genitori devono utilizzare sempre il parcheggio all’esterno del cancello.
Ricordatevi di chiudere le portiere dell’auto e non lasciate borse e borsette in macchina.
