SOCIAL NETWORKS IN THE HISTORICAL CITY: from Social Networks to the
Municipal Community Planning Center

9.30 departure from the hotel
Metro B to Cavour station
10.00 Meeting to Piazza Madonna dei Monti. Presentation of the rione Monti, of its identity,
of its problems and conflicts. Presentation of the Rete Sociale Monti, of its aims and
actions.
Walk through the rione and its problems.
12.00 Visit to the occupied ex-istituto “Angelo Mai”, meeting with occupying group, visit to
the ciclofficina
13.00 Lunch in the occupied “Angelo Mai”
14.00 Video and discussions about the problems of the rione, evictions, immigrant groups,
etc.
15.30 bus through the historical city to I Municipio
16.00 explanation in the Municipal Community Planning Center (Casa della città) and
meeting with the network of the associations of the historical city working in the
Laboratorio urbanistico (Urban Planning Laboratory)
17.00 back to the hotel

THE OSTIENSE-MARCONI NEIGHBOURHOODS: trans-local cultures and urban
planning in the consolidated city.

9:00 a.m. check-out and departure from “Istituto Salesiano”. Meeting point at the
underground station Rebibbia.
9:30 arrival at the underground station S. Paolo. Bikes will be distributed by people from
ciclofficine (“bikes workshops”, linked to the critical mass movement).
10:00-12:00 meeting and discussion at the former “dog-racing track” (now called Acrobax),
with people from the Centro Sociale.
12:00-12:30 Visit to the surrounding area (Rome’s Third University buildings and
Lungotevere Dante).
12:30-12:45 biking to the India Theatre through the industrial archaeology area (via
Ostiense). 12:45-14:30 stop at the India Theatre garden. Packet lunch and
meeting/discussion with a local administrator about the re-qualification design of the Urban
Pole Ostiense.
14:30-14:40 biking to the “Mattatoio” (former abattoir).
14:40-16:30 Meeting with people from the Villaggio Globale social centre, who will
introduce us to people living in the area.
Meeting at the socio-cultural centre Ararat with a representative from “Senza Confine”
association, working with Kurds.
16:30 giving back bikes to people from ciclofficine and walking to the Piramide
underground station to come back to the Istituto Salesiano.
Field trip 3 - SANTA MARIA DELLA PIETÀ: Regeneration Processes and the Right
to Memory

9.20 Check-out and departure from "Istituto Salesiano", via Tiburtina 994 to Rebibbia
subway station. Getting off at Ostiense subway stop and train FR3 till Monte Mario station.
10.30 Entering the citadel of exclusion… Visit to the Museum & Laboratory of Mind
11.00 A trip into madness… Meeting at the Studies and Research Centre, Building n. 26
11.45 Getting to know a foucauldian heterotopia… Visit around the ex-hospital buildings
and the historical park
13.00 Lunch at the ex-laundry, Building n. 32
14.00 Meeting/debate with members of associations and the squatting committees
15.00 Out and beyond the hospital… Visit to the adjacent areas: the rural park and the
gipsy camp
16.00 Departure, back to the hostel
