CORROSIVE ACTION OF OXYGEN AND CARBON
DIOXIDE
When iron and steel are in contact with water, iron
is diluted. At high temperature, as the ones reached in steam generators, a magnetic oxide layer,
Fe3O4, usually named as lodestone, is naturally
formed on ferrous surfaces. Such layer prevents
further attack of below iron, but may be destroyed
by oxygen content in the water.Carbon dioxide, instead, increases corrosive action of the oxygen in
the low temperature areas of the generator (feed
water piping, preheaters, …). Carbon dioxide is
most effective in the condensate return piping.
There, the CO2, liberated with the steam, combines with water forming carbonic acid that shortly
corrodes the piping. Corrosion products, ferrous
bicarbonate, recycles in the generator where
further separates into CO2, that goes into steam,
and iron, that concentrates into the generator and
increases corrosive process.
GENERAL
Separation and removal of dilutes gases in steam
generator feed waters is a must fully recognized
in order to prevent corrosions in all thermal circuit. ATH deaerator provides simple and effective
removal diluted gases in the water.
With following additional advantages: - protection
of condensate return circuit from acid corrosion
in presence of CO2; - preheating of steam generator feed water at constant temperature, without
dangerous thermal shocks, therefore improving
thermal capacity; - removal of all other gases that
may cause irregular operation of regulation and
monitoring devices; - elimination of condensate
and conditioned water tanks. ATH deaerator substitutes them both.
It is proved that both oxygen and carbon dioxide
freely release from water as temperature increases. At 100°C solubility is nothing, at 95-98°C
oxygen residual content is very low, 0,2ppm as
O2, while free carbon dioxide is practically indeterminable. Oxygen residual content can be easily
neutralized adding small quantities of orcanic
chemical product. ATH deaerator has automatic
operation, and is easily inserted in the water treatment and feed water system of steam generators.
DESIGN
The deaerator is designed in the worst conditions
foreseen, corresponding to the case that all water
to be treated shall be heated from 20°C to 98°C
(no condensate return).Deaerator volume always
corresponds to 50% of its instantaneous capacity.
SUPPLY DESCRIPTION
The deaerator body is composed of: - cylindrical
horizontal tank, manufactured with carbon steel
plate; - manhole or head hole, flanged nozzles,
and saddles; - stem reduction group composed
of three interception globe valves and by-pass;
- perforated steam thrower in order to ensure a
silent contact between water and steam; - level
regulator; - probe thermometer, scale 0-150°C to
check the water temperature; - glass level indicator; - ball valves for water inlet and outlet.

L’AZIONE CORROSIVA DELL’OSSIGENOE DELLA ANIDRIDE CARBONICA
Quando il ferro e l’acciaio entrano in contatto con l’acqua, vengono diluiti. Ad alta temperatura, come quelle raggiunte nei generatori di vapore, uno strato di ossido magnetoco,
noto come calamina, si forma naturalmente sulle superfici ferrose. Questo strato, che
naturalmente impedisce l’attacco corrosuvo al ferro, puo’ essere distrutto dall’ossigeno
contenuto nell’acqua. Il biossido di carbonio che si crea, aumenta invece la azione corrosive dell’ossigeno nelle zone a bassa temperatura dei generatori di vapore, come tubi del
terzo giro di fumi, economizzatori, e tubazioni condensa.. Qui, il CO2 che si libera con il
vapore, combinandosi con’ l’acqua forma acido carbonico corrosivo.che, concentrandosi
nel generatore di vapore aumenta ukteriormente il processo generale di corosione.
Ne deriva che la separazione e la rimozione dei das diluiti nell’acqua diventi un Must al
fine di evitare corrosioni nei generatori di vapore.
I degasatori della serie ATH, sono stati appositamente studiati per rimuovere in modo
semplice ed efficace i gas contenuti nell’acqua di alimento dei generatori di vapore, garantendone assenza di corrosione e durata nel tempo..
La fornitura di un degasatore ath si compone di:
a) Il corpo del degasatore è un serbatoio cilindrico orizzontale, realizzato il lamiera di
acciaio. Risulta completo di passo d’uomo, bocchelli flangiati e selle di appoggio.
b) COMPONENTI DEL CIRCUITO VAPORE. Il termoregolatore del tipo a valvola pneumatica,
azionata da una centralina di regolazione ad azione proporzionale. Filtro del vapore con
elemento filtrante inox, estraibile. Tre valvole f.a. di intercettazione e by-pass del gruppo
termostatico. Manometro, con rubinetto di esclusione, sul tronchetto d’entrata vapore. Sistema di distribuzione vapore costituito da iniettore per vapore.
c) SISTEMA DI ALIMENTAZIONE con gruppo di interruttori di livello con valvola di intercettazione e ritegno.
d) STRUMENTAZIONE E ACCESSORI. Un interruttore di minimo livello. Termometro a sonda, scala 0 - 150°C, per il controllo della temperatura dell’acqua. Indicatore di livello in
vetro pirex con custodia e valvole di esclusione. Una valvola f.a. sullo scarico di fondo. Una
valvola f.a. sul bocchello di presa dell’acqua trattata.
e) ISOLAMENTO TERMICO. La superficie esterna del degasatore sarà coibentata con lana
minerale di spessore 50 mm e rivestita con lamierino.

salt storage tank with level control, bronze enbloc valve with incorporated automatic by-pass for
the regeneration, back-wash and running operations.

la depurazione dell’acqua
Depurare correttamente l’acqua di alimento delle caldaie a vapore è condizione fondamentale
per un buon funzionamento. Le incrostazioni sulle pareti metalliche e nei tubi dei generatori di
vapore non solo diminuiscono il rendimento con conseguente aumento dei consumi di combustibile, ma, nel caso di generatori di vapore, ne provocano l’arresto.
Le incrostazioni possono essere sciolte con lavaggio chimico, ma bisogna evitare il ricorso frequente a questo sistema prevedendo una corretta scelta del trattamento dell’acqua, non limitandosi al solo controllo della durezza. In base ai dati riscontrati si opererà nella scelta del sistema
di depurazione che si riterrà più opportuno.

Metering pumps and conditioning products:
These are the ideal solution to solve problems connected with feed
and condensate water treatment also in addition to the softeners with
exchange bases and demineralizers.
The metering pumps inject the condizioning liquid into the water and
condensate circuits. The liquids in question prevent the formation of
scales and protect the material surfaces.
The metering pumps are of strong and simple construction, they do
not require any maintenance and are designed for continuous service
even under the hardest operating conditions.
