PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Dear members,
2015 was another busy year. 2016 Membership is now
due. Form is on our website. Please contact me if you
wish to have it mailed to you. Thank you to the members
who have already paid for 2016 membership. Thank you
all for supporting our Society by your membership and
participating in events we organise. Thank you to our
Sponsors. Your continuing support is appreciated. We
would love to have new sponsors. Thank you to all the
Student members, our School Director, Rita and all the
teachers. We wish Charlotte all the best as she waits for
her little boy to arrive. Thank you to my committee who
make being President a pleasure and worth the work.
Thank you to Yen and Adolfo for the library work, Ester
and Vilma for the pasta making, Anna Maria for playing
at our Dante night, all guest artists and helpers in 2015.
I look forward to your continued support in 2016.

Our last function for the year was our end of year dinner
for all members and friends held at the Gold Coast Italo
Australian Club. I thank Patrizia and the club staff for

LA CENA PER LA FINE DELL’ANNO
La cena per la fine del secondo semestre e’ stata un
momento piacevolissimo per festeggiare il grande
lavoro degli studenti della Dante Gold Coast, del
lavoro organizzativo e puntuale del comitato della
scuola e dell’impegno costante delle insegnanti. La
serata e’ iniziata con il benvenuto dato dalla
Direttrice della scuola, la signora Rita Lo Presti,
seguito dall’introduzione della serata dalla
Presidentessa della Dante Gold Coast, la signora
Giovanna Santomauro. Alcuni studenti hanno
contribuito alla serata: la poesia “La mia classe”
scritta dalla studentessa Jenny Old e interpretata
dallo studente Peter Mignani della classe Advanced
1b del giorno. Poi uno spiritoso gioco di ruolo delle
bravissime studentesse della classe Beginners 3 della
mattina: Virginia, Janine e Maria. Tutte le insegnanti
erano presenti e avvicinandosi il Natale sono state
omaggiate con un Panettone. In particolare il
comitato della scuola ha avuto un ringraziamento ed
un pensiero particolare per l’insegnante Charlotte
Petrucci che e’ in attesa del suo primo figlio. Gli
studenti, dalla classe Introduction to Italian alla
classe Beginners 3, hanno ricevuto il certificato di
partecipazione ed alcuni studenti sono stati poi
sorteggiati per la vincita della lotteria organizzata
dalla scuola. Connie Canale a nome di tutti i
partecipanti ha avuto bellissime parole di
ringraziamento per l’insostituibile lavoro svolto dalla
Presidentessa la signora Giovanna Santomauro. Il
taglio della torta e’ stato uno dei momenti conclusivi
della serata seguito dalle canzoni natalizie guidate da
Robyn e Rhonda del Coro della Dante Gold Coast.
Tutti i partecipanti si sono accomiatati con gli auguri
di un felice Natale, un buon anno nuovo e con la
promessa di rivedersi ancora alla Dante nel 2016.

END OF YEAR DINNER
The end of year dinner and the end of second
semester was a pleasant way to celebrate the
Gold Coast Dante Students’ work and the
organisation by the Committee and the constant
dedication of the Teachers. The evening started
with a welcome by School Director, Rita Lo
Presti, followed by the introduction of the
evening by the President of the Gold Coast
Society, Giovanna Santomauro. Some students
contributed to the entertainment of the evening –
the poem “My Class” written by Jenny Old and
recited by Peter Mignani from Advanced 1
Friday morning class. This was followed by a
funny role play by Monday morning Beginners 3
students Virginia, Janine and Maria. All the
teachers who were present were given a
Panettone as a token of appreciation. The
committee
gave teacher Charlotte Petrucci
flowers and a gift as she is expecting her first
baby. Students from levels “Introduction” to
“Beginners 3” were presented with a Certificate
of Participation. There was the drawing of the
raffle and then Connie Canale thanked everyone
for participating and in particular acknowledged
the work by the president, Giovanna
Santomauro. The cutting of the cake was by a
representative from all the class levels. The
evening finished with singing of Italian
Christmas Carols lead by Robyn and Rhonda
from the Dante choir. Everyone left with the
good wishes of a Merry Christmas and the
promise to see each other again at the Dante
Gold Coast in 2016.
John and I went to Coffs Harbour to farewell
a good friend and supporter of the Dante
Gold Coast, Franko Leoni. He was the guest
speaker at the Dante’s 15th Anniversary
Celebration. Rest in peace.

AMORE IN PARADISO (Love in Paradise)
In Paradise (Heaven), a group of angels work together
in what is known as “the office of desires” to help those
on Earth find a partner. Michele has longed to meet the
woman of his dreams, however it seems every time he
thinks he has found “the one” it is not to be.
The angels receive a request for help from Michele and
after searching through their computer, come upon
Perla, who seems an ideal match for Michele. Due to
Michele’s past failures at romance, the angels decide to
enlist the help of their specialist, Pippo.

Chi aiuta tutte le persone a sorridere,

Pippo travels to Earth and devises a plan for Michele
and Perla to meet and although the plan appears to be a
success and the two arrange a meeting, all is not well in
Paradise. Pippo has done something an angel must
never do. Can he rectify the situation before it is too
late?
Will Michele finally find his “Amore in Paradiso” or be
doomed to a lonely, single life? The ending may
surprise you....

Cos`e` la festa di Natale per te?
…e`una vacanza in Italia con il freddo e la neve (Jenni-Int 2)…non e` importante per me, solo
tempo per stare in famiglia (Robyn M-Conversazione Lunedi`)….e` importante per me vedere la
famiglia e gli amici (Inter 2 ) … non una festa religiosa ma un giorno insieme da giocare, mangiare
e chiaccherare (Robyn M-Lingua Cultura e Societa`)…famiglia, il mangiare insieme (Nicole-Adv
1B)…un giorno con la famiglia: e` sopratutto per i bambini (Inter 2) ...per me Natale e` molto
divertente, con troppo cibo (Vicki-Int2)…
Natale in famiglia o con amici?
…sempre in famiglia, ma qualche volta anche con gli amici (Inter)…siccome siamo una famiglia
piccola sempre invitiamo amici per pranzo (Heather-Conversazione Lunedi`)…alcuni amici

Quali sono I cibi tipici a casa tua per festeggiare le feste Natalizie?
…il tacchino arrosto, o il Bbcue con la salvia al burro, e tante insalate. Per dolce zuppa inglese e fragole
con arancia e Cointreau (Maria -Lingua, Cultura e Societa`)…gamberi, salmone, prosciutto e molte
insalate, seguite da budino di prugne con crema, panna e gelato. (Jill T- Conversazione

Hai un bel ricordo da quando eri piccola/o?
…ho dei bellissimi ricordi: la cena in famiglia per la Vigilia, i pacchetti colorati, le musiche, le luci,
l`atmosfera natalizia (Martina Medda- Insegnante)…ogni anno andavamo nella nostra casetta al
mare…solo mio padre, mia madre e le mie sorelle. Ero molto contenta (Robyn M- Conversazione
