collaboratori accettano senza battere ciglio perché altrimenti il parco fattrici
deborderebbe.
L’operazione Juddmonte è capace di camminare da sola. Al punto che su 113
yearling nati in Europa nel 2010 ben 89 sono figli di stalloni targati Juddmonte.
E’ Dansili ovviamentente a tirare il gruppo con 22 puledri seguito – sorpresa
! – da Rail Link con 16, poi Beat Hollow a 14 e Oasis Dream a 12. gli apporti
esterni sono sporadici. Un paio di Pivotal e di Medicean, qualcosa di tedesco
(2 Monsun e uno Shirocco). Le regole non scritte ma che si possono scavare
leggendo gli incroci sono quelle di sempre. Stalloni confermati – a meno che
non siano cavalli di casa – e mating fatti col buon senso.
Alla fine la legge dei grandi numeri farà sfrecciare davanti altri allevamenti
ma a noi interessa festeggiare adesso. Con la sicurezza che fra 20 anni Juddmonte sarà ancora al suo posto e ci farà esultare per la vittoria della bisbisbisnipote di una cavalla che avevamo applaudito 20 anni fa.

prima o poi ci passeranno ma con la vittoria
di Emulous i colori del Principe Abdulla sono
arrivati al gruppo 1 numero 188, due in più
di quelli ottenuti da Ballydoyle con la formula
O’Brien, 10 sopra godolphin . Non si possono
fare paragoni tra le tre operazioni e anche questo giochino di numeri lascia
il tempo che trova. Amen, a noi piace così e per questo nelle pagine che seguono vi proponiamo tutta la lista dei gruppi 1 di Abdulla - cavallo per cavallo
- in ordine cronologico da Known Fact, che vinse le Middle Park nel 1977, a
Emulous che ci ha consegnato il nono centro di quella che verrà ricordata da
noi ultra come la stagione di Frankel.
A chi piace la statistica possiamo ricordare che Emulous ha portato a 92 il
numero di homebred vincitori di gr1 con la giubba Abdulla e il totale degli allevati, considerando anche i cavalli ceduti a vario titolo (foal-sharing con Coolmore), vendite all’amichevole, in asta o declamazioni è a una spanna da
quota 100 (secondo un calcolo da verificare sarebbero 98).
Altri numeri. Le fattrici Juddmonte che hanno prodotto almeno un vincitore di
gr1 sono 76 e in testa c’è ovviamente la leggendaria Hasili con 5, seguita da
Toussaud a 4. E vogliamo parlare degli stalloni? Ben 72 dei 188 gruppi uno
sono arrivati grazie ai figli degli stalloni che hanno corso o sono stati allevati
da Juddmonte. Il leader, naturale, è Danehill con 13 vittorie, ottenute da 7
soggetti diversi, cinque dei quali, però, fratelli pieni con madre Dansili. Un vincitore in meno (6) è figlio di Dansili. (Tabella pag. 8)
Capitolo allenatori. Dermot Weld è diventato il quattordicesimo allenatore a
mettere la sella su un laureato di gruppo 1 firmato Juddmonte. Bobby Frankel
è quello che ha dato il maggior contributo, 65 vittorie arrivate con 34 diversi
soggetti. Al momento per il secondo posto c’è foto tra Andre Fabre che è a
quota 30, con Henry Cecil a 29 ma può contare su Frankel.
Abbiamo parlato del passato e del presente. Ma il futuro? E’ dietro l’angolo e
la vittoria nel Juddmonte ha allungato la vita al nostro Principone di una ventina d’anni. E soprattutto non è vecchio. Secondo i testi è nato nel 1937, dunque ha 74 anni – uno in meno dell’Aga Khan – ma il suo allevamento è
giovane e fresco come acqua di fonte.
Le belle famiglie che si è portato a casa sono state rinvigorite con gli stalloni
giusti. Nel suo parco fattrici – da valutare intorno alle 250 cavalle tra Europa
e Usa – ci sono una trentina di vincitrici di gruppo uno, gran parte delle quali
ancora in pieno servizio. Con le madri e le sorelle dei laureati di gruppo uno
si arriva ben sopra le 100 unità. Ce n’è abbastanza, al punto che anche gli
scampoli Juddmonte, presentati ogni anno alle December, sono capi di alta
sartoria che fanno la felicità dei piccoli e medi allevatori. Costano il giusto e
non sono scarti, come succede con altri grandi allevamenti, ma semplicemente
il frutto di una selezione fatta in pista. Ogni tanto capita che sia la sorella

Regal Solution si è fatto Avanti lungo la curva finale ed è passato
facile garantendo a Riccardo Menichetti, che ha sellato anche il
secondo Devils Wears Olmo, la trentesima vittoria stagionale con
i 2 anni. Il vincitore è il secondo prodotto e il primo vincitore per
Satin gold, che aveva corso tre volte. Satin gold è sorellastra di
Primary Colours (Saddlers’ Hall), una discreta specialita dell’all
weather che ha vinto 4 corse sul sintetico ma andava abbastanza
per piazzarsi seconda nelle Middleton Stakes (Lr). La seconda
madre go For Red ha dato altri 4 vincitori, tra i quali la 3 anni
Monti Iblei (Titus Livius), che ha vinto 4 volte in Sicilia, ed è sorellastra del consistente Hokyto Tycoon (Last Tycoon), che ha
vinto 8 corse in piano e in siepi in giappone.

Easy Destination ha forzato di fronte per dominare la corsa e
sembra destinata a non fermarsi su questo successo. E’ una sorellastra di Easy Hawk (Hawk Wing), che ha vinto il Poncia, e di
Renzo E Lucia (Nayef) che ha totalizzato tre vittorie e ha di fatto
già recuperato i 5.000 euro spesi da giovanni Solinas per acquistarla all’asta in allenamento di giugno. La madre Easy Style
ha vinto una volta e si è piazzata a ripetizione in discrete condizionate. La seconda madre Icy Love ha messo insieme 3 vittorie
e ha dato 5 vincitori, compresa la 2 anni Lady Icy (Refuse to
Bend), che ha centrato una condizionata alle Bettole a metà luglio e non ha sfigurato nel Criterium Varesino. La progenie di Icy
Love conprende anche il piazzato di listed a 2 anni Arma Mani
(One Cool Cat).

Doppio al volo per Bruno grizzetti con la debuttante Luce Polare
che si è fatta Avanti dal gruppo per travolgere in arrivo la stimata
Belly To Belly. La puledra, dal debuttante Lawman, è il quarto
prodotto e il terzo vincitore per Contemporary, che aveva colpito
a 2 anni nel Prix Miesque (gr3) ma non aveva saputo riprodurre
quella forma a 3 anni. La produzione di Contemporary ha come
perla finora Force Of Ransom (Red Ransom), due volte piazzato
in listed nella stagione giovanile. La seconda madre Crumpetsforthea ha prodotto altri 4 vincitori, compreso Heinstein (Night
Shift), che ha vinto più di 127.000 euro grazie a 6 successi in
Francia.

da una famiglia eccezionale. Il fratellastro Dr Johnson (Woodman), due volte vincitore di stakes, è stato secondo nell’Irish
Derby. La seconda madre Russian Ballet ha dato altri 7 vincitori
ed è sorellastra dei campioni e stalloni El gran Senor e Try My
Best. La terza madre Sex Appeal ha dato tra gli altri anche Carillon Miss, la madre del Champion Sire italiano Blu Air Force.

Tutti questi campioni di diritto entrati nella hall of fame del galoppo mondiale
sono accomunati per linee tramandate durante gli anni dai discendenti del
più influente sire del ventesimo secolo. La parte commerciale e modaiola vorrebbe che il protagonista di tutto ciò fosse un vincitore elitario che porta in
dote a sua volta successi pregressi.
Ma la bellezza e l'assoluta imprevedibilità della natura fa si che l'ippica sia
stata, sia e rimanga sempre un grande libro dove nulla è scritto in anticipo e
nulla può essere creato a tavolino. L'attesa, la speranza e l'emozione di allevare è, come diceva Daniel Wildenstein, non una scienza, ma bensì un arte.
Sedici vittorie in ventuno uscite pubbliche con l'alloro nelle Challenge 1917 e
‘18 come maggior status: questo è il curriculum in pista del figlio del solido
Polymelus, vincitore tra le altre di Champion e Prince of Wales, e Bromus, acquistata dal diciassettesimo Conte di Derby alla morte del suo allevatore con
una intuizione che si rivelò azzeccata. La conformazione della cavalla, che
aveva come score una vittoria in dieci uscite e il pedigree che si rifaceva a ritroso al basilare Springfield furono punti decisivi per la scelta. Il 16 maggio
del 1913 dalla loro unione nacque Phalaris.
Nei primi lustri del novecento l'evoluzione del purosangue stava compiendo
un passo importante; le doti
classiche improntate al fondo
che avevano esaltato le platee
nell'epoca vittoriana stavano
facendo spazio al flyer. Il velocista nella figura massima di
The Tetrarch e nei figli di Orby
stava facendo breccia nei cuori
degli appassionati fin a quel
momento schierati verso un
altro tipo di atleta. Phalaris ricopre e rappresenta un ideale
trait d’ union di passaggio consolidato sia in pista sia in razza. Nelle sue uscite tra i due e i cinque anni
sedici sono state le vittorie e seppur possa essergli attribuita la figura di
miler corto c'è da riconoscere che le prestazioni migliori le ha fornite come
sprinter.
Entrato in razza al Cheveley Park nel 1919 fece subito lista piena non tanto
per lo score in pista quanto per le attitudini veloci che aveva dimostrato e
che gli allevatori prediligevano. Capolista per ben tre volte come padre di due
anni negli anni venti e, nel '25 e '28 come assoluto vide crescere i consensi
e le aspettative di anno in anno grazie ai suoi figli. Basta ricordare tra gli altri
Pharos, padre in Italia di Nearco, caposaldo di Dormello e sire basilare, e in
Francia di Pharis allevato da Marcel Boussac e considerato un crack assoluto
del ‘900 francese.
Basterebbe solo questo per considerare la grandezza e l’ influenza di Phalaris
nel tessuto allevatorio mondiale, ma pure Manna e Chatelaine meritano citazione in una lista che richiederebbe capitolo a parte. Manna vincitore di 2000
ghinee e Derby di Epsom ( in canter per 8 lunghezze ) nel 1925 è padre delle
dormelliane Archidamia e Dagherotipia mentre Chatelaine ha riportato le Oaks
del 1933. Phalaris nella seconda metà degli anni '30 fu per tre volte capolista
come padre di fattrici dando linfa a quella sua peculiarità di riuscire in razza
indistintamente con maschi e femmine in una pluralità di vincitore su ogni distanza. La sua morte prematura avvenuta il 28 febbraio del 1931 dopo aver
coperto la fattrice Princess Sublime non gli ha impedito di influenzare ancora
oggi a quasi un secolo dalla sua nascita il panorama allevatorio, cambiato,
mutevole ed evoluto sicuramente con il passare degli anni, ma rimasto intatto
rispetto al tempo per la casualità, la ricerca, la voglia di mettersi sempre e
comunque alla prova. Phalaris non entrerà in statistiche o albi d'oro di questa
o quella classica, ma è anche grazie a lui se campioni postumi al suo tempo
hanno fatto, fanno e faranno emozionare, gioire, imprecare, brillare gli occhi
degli appassionati che applaudendo il proprio campione gli debbono sicuramente un grazie.
