On Sunday April 28th starts in Santa Margherita Ligure the 44° edition of the Regate
Pirelli - Coppa Carlo Negri, organized by Yacht Club Italiano in collaboration with the
Circolo Velico di Santa Margherita Ligure and the patronage of the Santa Margherita
Ligure and Portofino Municipalities.
Every year boats registered are more than one hundred, proofing the success of an
event loved by ship owners, Italians and foreign crews.
Entries
The Regate Pirelli - Coppa Carlo Negri are open to all IRC boats with a LOA of over
9,14 metres, subdivided in the following groups:
Group O:
IMA
Maxi
Swan Maxi Class
Wally
Mini Maxi
Group A: Classes 0-1-2
Group B: Classes 3-4
Very heterogeneous the fleet of the participants: from the Transpac 52 Bombarda of
Stefano Pozzi to the Swan 60 Vertical Smile of Peter Lebrandt, from the Farr 40 Farr
Marmo of Alberto Franchi to the Baltic 50 Music of Huber Ruedi, to the Swan 45
Aphrodite of Pierfrancesco Di Giuseppe and Swanted of Stefano Piccolo and the X-35
Spirit of Nerina, winner of the 2011 edition.
Four Extreme 40 challenge in the Extreme 40 Pirelli Regatta 2013
After the great success of 2012, the Extreme 40 challenge again at sea in Santa
Margherita in the Extreme 40 Pirelli Regatta 2013.
This year the catamarans present will be four: each one will have on board a crew of
the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, the circuit of regattas for the best Under 25 crews of
the world that will face each other in San Francisco between August and September
during the 34° America’s Cup.
Special guests of the Extreme 40 Pirelli Regatta 2013 will be Tommaso Chieffi, Torben
Grael, Mauro Pelaschier and Bruno Peyron.

The Extreme 40 are spectacular and very fast catamarans that with a wind of only 7
knots sail with the hull lifted on the water. They are 12 metres long (40 feet) and reach
speeds of over 25 knots. The crew is of four people.
The four Extreme 40 will race every day on a very spectacular course near Santa
Margherita Ligure coast, visible and close to the public ashore.
The programme
During the four days of the event (Sunday 28th, Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th of April
and Wednesday 1st of May) the daily programme is the following: at 8.30 breakfast for
the participants in the Pirelli Tent in Santa Margherita, at 11 the beginning of the
regatta on a windward/leeward course, then pasta party for the crews back from the
race, in the Pirelli Tent.
Tuesday April 30th at 8.00 p.m. appointment for all racers for a crew party in the
Pirelli Tent in Santa Margherita.
Wednesday May 1st at around 5.00 p.m.in the Pirelli Tent in Santa Margherita there
will be the award giving ceremony. A BMW Mini car will be drawn among all the
present participants.
The Coppa Carlo Negri, permanent challenge, will be awarded to the yacht with the
best Overall scoring in the most numerous group.
The Regate Pirelli – Coppa Carlo Negri
The Coppa Carlo Negri is a permanent challenge trophy, founded in 1945 by Beppe
Croce to commemorate his friend and pilot Carlo Negri, the son of Margherita Pirelli,
who was awarded with a gold medal for bravery when he died in Albania on
September 24th 1943 during a mission he had volunteered for to help Italian soldiers
surrounded by German troops.
