DUE PAROLE SUL RITO AMBROSIANO
Nel mese di settembre, ogni anno, ci sono tanti arrivi di studenti che provengono da tutta
Italia e da molti paesi stranieri. Questo breve articolo intende fornire qualche chiarimento
circa la liturgia ambrosiana.
Chi viene da altre diocesi si accorge che nella diocesi di Milano si segue un rito diverso da
quello romano. Qui si segue il Rito Ambrosiano. Chiariamo subito che è un rito cattolico.
Alcune particolarità di questo rito risalgono proprio ad Ambrogio, altre si sono affermate in
epoca carolingia (IX secolo), altre ancora sono il risultato del Concilio Vaticano II.
Quali le differenze rispetto al Rito Romano che si celebra in tutte le altre diocesi del mondo?
Diremo quelle più immediate. L’Avvento inizia con due settimane di anticipo. La Quaresima
comincia con la prima domenica di Quaresima (cioè il carnevale non finisce di martedì, ma di
sabato e il rito delle Ceneri è posticipato alla domenica); i venerdì di Quaresima sono
aliturgici, cioè non viene celebrata la Messa. Durante la Messa ci sono letture diverse,
antifone diverse, lo scambio della pace si fa subito prima di portare le offerte, il Credo si
recita dopo aver portato le offerte, la benedizione conclusiva è preceduta da tre Kyrie eleison,
alla formula di congedo: “Andiamo in pace” si risponde “Nel nome di Cristo”.
TWO WORDS ABOUT THE AMBROSIAN RITE
The Diocese of Milan follows the Ambrosian rite, as Catholic as the Roman. Some features of
the Ambrosian rite date back to St. Ambrose (4th century), others to the period of
Charlemagne (9th century), and others are the result of the Second Vatican Council. Let us
mention the most noticeable differences in respect of the Roman rite that can be found when
going to Mass. The First Sunday of Advent is a fortnight earlier than in the Roman, so that
there are six Sundays in Advent. Lent begins liturgically on the first Lent Sunday (carnival
does not end on Tuesday, but on Saturday, and the Ash rite is postponed to the first Lent
Sunday); Lent Fridays are aliturgical, i.e. Mass is not celebrated. The Ambrosian Rite has its
own cycle of readings at Mass; in addition, the Rite of Peace comes before the Offertory
(Presentation of the Gifts); the Creed follows the Offertory; before the final blessing, the
people say Kyrie eleison three times.
