The third edition of Trasimeno Trek has been enriched with a lot of new proposals!
This year we have developed a truly emotional tour, allowing plenty of time for meeting the
people, passionate and dedicated men and women who live and work around the lake. For this
reason it is essential to walk the whole circuit and spend the evenings with our hosts, who keep
their land alive with labour and revive old memories with story telling.
Slowly we will go on a journey through space and time, following the magic of trails and threads
that since times immemorial have tied together water and land: on our path we will meet
fishermen, farmers, village people, and we will pause for a chat, a taste of their products, a glass
of wine... simple and excellent fare, nourishing our body and soul. We will spend the night in
campgrounds, pensioni, farm lodges, right at the water edge or high on the hills above the lake.
We will go boating: on an evening visit to Isola Maggiore – with dinner included – and with local
fishermen to participate in their fishing activities. We will explore the Waterbird Sanctuary
“Oasi La Valle” and visit the most remarkable medieval towns and villages surrounding the lake
(Castiglione del Lago, Tuoro sul Trasimeno, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Monte Colognola, Monte
del Lago, San Feliciano, San Savino, Mongiovino, Panicale, Paciano).
1 day – Passignano – Monte del Lago – Km 21,3 – Altitude gain m 562
We start from Passignano taking a trail that climbs among olive groves and woods all the way to
the ridge of the hill, with gourgeous views on the lake and the borough of San Donato. We stop
for a visit at Fattoria Orsini, where Flavio will welcome us with a sampling of his farm products.
We keep on going along the ridge road and reach the ancient village of Monte Colognola, then
we descend to Monte del Lago where we stop for the night.

2 day – Monte del Lago –San Savino–Sant’Arcangelo –Km 16,34 –Altitude gain m 283
We walk on the bike path to the Oasi la Valle, a water bird sanctuary where we stop for a visit.
Then we board traditional woodden boats and go with local fishermen on a fishing expedition,
ending with a delicious snack of fried fish – just caught! We keep on going and reach the village
of San Savino for a picnic lunch with a vista. After lunch we get on the bike path again, then
climb to Monte Buono and the woods of La Marzolana, and eventually reach Sant'Arcangelo
where we will spend the night.

3 day – Sant’Arcangelo –Montali -Mongiovino –Panicale –Paciano - Km 23,34, Altitude gain m

We bid farewell to Sant’Arcangelo and start walking on a trail in the woods of the Coop La
Marzolana, then we meander on unpaved roads reaching the villages of Montali, Mongiovino e
Panicale. Our path is dotted with abandoned farmhouses from sharecropping times, olive groves
and oak trees. We stop to visit beautiful Panicale and buy something for lunch, they we climb
up to Monte Petravella. From here we start our descent, through oak and chestnut woods all
the way to Paciano, another lovely ancient village that we visit, and to the nearby hamlet of
Varacca where we stop for the night.

4 day – Paciano – Villastrada – Vaiano – Poggio S. Maria – Porto km 24,5 Altitude gain m 565
We start our walk on a nice panoramic dirt road, in the direction of San Donato; we follow a
stream among woods and vineyards, then we climb on the hills that disclose stretches of Tuscan
farmland nearby. We reach Villastrada and keep on going up to the small borough of Vaiano. We
stop at Azienda Bittarelli for a visit with Patrizia and a sampling of her farm produce. Rested and
refreshed we get back on the path, flanked by ancient oaks and in view of the Lake of Chiusi, in
Tuscany. We reach Poggio S. Maria, the highest village of the county, then descend to our final
destination for the day, Porto.

5 day –Porto – Castiglione del Lago – Borghetto – Km 26,2 Altitude gain m 175
We leave Porto and start walking along cultivated fields and woods, in the direction of
Castiglione del Lago. We go past the borough of Frattavecchia and reach the lake shore, then
walk to Castiglione where we visit the town center with the Fortress and get some goods for a
picnic lunch. We exit the town and continue walking by the lake; we pass by a dismissed
airstrip, now used for a kite flying competition called “Coloriamo i Cieli”. We keep on going on
the bike path to the village of Borghetto.

Dinner & Lodging: Camping Badiaccia
6 day – Borghetto – Punta Bella – Monte Galandro - Tuoro – Km 17,5 – Altitude gain m 478
We leave Borghetto and start walking among grassy fields and olive groves towards Punta Bella,
then gently climb to the Castle of Monte Galandro. We stop for a visit at Azienda Montemelino,
welcomed by the owners with a snack and sampling of their wine and olive oil. We get on the
path again, walking on a ridge road which winds over the hills between the Val di Chiana and the
Trasimeno basin. We reach the county park of Monte Castelluccio and begin our descent
towards beautiful Tuoro, which we visit. This evening we dine al fresco on the Isola Maggiore,
with time to explore the tiny fisherman village and enjoy sunset on the terrace of our restaurant.

7 day – Tuoro – Castellonchio – Vernazzano – Pischiello – Passignano sul Trasimeno – Km 15,4

We leave Tuoro walking by the lake shore, then start to climb towards Castellonchio and the
Torre Torta of Vernazzano. We cross woods and olive groves on a nice path with panoramic
views, then descend to Torale and Villa Pischiello. After a picnic lunch with a vista we continue
our descent, stopping along the way for a visit at the spiritual/health study center Panta Rei.
Around mid afternoon we get back to Passignano sul Trasimeno, the final destination of out tour.
