n questo giardino - ove la Natura è assecondata dall’uomo, in cui ogni albero e ogni pietra hanno un senso e una
storia, in cui sul prato giunge la starna o il fagiano - sono immerse le suites del resort, è immersa la piscina, la SPA,
il teatro di verzura, il maneggio e la pista per il calesse: in ogni stanza ogni finestra è un vero quadro di viva e vera

The suites of the resort, the swimming pool, the spa, the theatre of greenery, the riding stables, and a track for the calèche are located in this

struttura immersa nella campagna Toscana, ai piedi del borgo storico di Castiglion
Fibocchi, a pochi passi da quelle tenute in
cui la nobiltà e l’alta finanza della Toscana
rinascimentale e dell’Europa moderna hanno scelto di vivere (i Pazzi, i Tornaquinci, i
Peruzzi, i Medici, gli Hohenlohe-Waldemburg-Schillingsfurs,
i Savoia-Aosta); a pochi passi da quelle case leopoldine in cui
il cinema italiano ha girato scene da Oscar (La vita è bella di
Roberto Benigni); lungo una via romana, la Cassia Vetus, che
nel medioevo avrà sull’Arno Ponte Buriano, il più antico, sopravvissuto alle piene di 7 secoli, di fascino tale da ammaliare
Leonardo da Vinci che lo dipinge sullo sfondo della Gioconda. Un resort in quella manciata di chilometri, tra il campanile della Pieve di Arezzo e la Cupola del Brunelleschi a Firenze,
in cui il direttore dei Musei Vaticani, Antonio Paolucci, sottolinea esser tanta parte dello spirito dell’arte toscana; un resort
che è anche azienda agricola biologica, su quei colli e sotto
quel Sole di Toscana che – insieme e ogni anno - offrono al
mondo il miracolo antico e sempre nuovo del Chianti.
La struttura centrale del resort è un edificio senza età, o meglio, con tante età stratificate insieme: nel medioevo qui era
una torre, a controllo degli itinerari che percorrono il Valdarno, e da qui vanno in Casentino.
Passati i tempi burrascosi del medioevo la torre viene “decussata”, cioè abbassata, e con il suo materiale si costruiscono
vani appoggiati ad essa, per aumentarne la capacità abitativa:
da un controllo “militare” del terreno intorno si è passati a un
controllo agricolo. E la forma attuale di questa solida mole
irrobustita da muri “a scarpa” è uno dei tanti miracoli che l’architettura spontanea sa fare in terra toscana. Il marchese Cepparello Pasquali, nel 1931, completa la definizione edilizia di
quello che è divenuto un piccolo centro aziendale, e che oggi
è il resort che vedete in queste pagine.

he Canto alla Moraia resort originated in
this way: a structure that is immersed in the
Tuscan countryside, at the foot of the historic
borgo of Castiglion Fibocchi, a short distance
from estates in which the nobility and high finance of renaissance Tuscany and of modern
Europe have chosen to live (e.g. the Pazzi,
Tornaquinci, Peruzzi, Medici, HohenloheWaldemburg-Schillingsfurs, Savoia-Aosta families), a few steps
away from those Leopoldine houses in which Oscar- winning
scenes of the Italian cinema (Roberto Benigni’s Life is Beautiful)
were filmed; along a Roman road, the Cassia Vetus, which in
the Middle Ages would be crossed by the Buriano Bridge over
the Arno: the charm of the oldest one, which survived the floods of 7 centuries, won over Leonardo da Vinci, who painted it
as the background for the Mona Lisa: a resort in that handful
of kilometres, between the Bell Tower of the Parish Church of
Arezzo and Brunelleschi’s Dome in Florence, which the director
of the Vatican Museums, Antonio Paolucci, emphasises as being
an exceedingly important part of Tuscan art. It is a resort that is
also a organic agricultural estate, on those hills and under that
Tuscan Sun which – together and every year – offer to the world
the ancient and always new miracle of Chianti.
The central structure of the resort is an ageless building, or better, with many ages layered together. In medieval times there
was a tower here, to control the itineraries that crossed the Valdarno and from there continued towards the Casentino. Once
the stormy times of the Middle Ages were over, the tower became “decussate”, that is, lowered: with its materials were built
rooms that backed onto it, in order to increase its living capacity. From a “military” control of the surrounding terrain these
passed to an agricultural control. And the present-day form of
this solid bulk, made robust by “scarp” walls, is one of the many
miracles that spontaneous architecture is capable of making
in the Tuscan territory. In 1931, Marchese Ceparello Pasquali
completed the building definition of what became a small estate
centre, and today is the resort that can be seen in these pages.

Silvia e Rodolfo crescono negli anni del boom economico ma non respirano soltanto business: negli anni ’50 i loro
padri costruiscono la grande fabbrica di Prato secondo i dettami dell’architettura organica di Frank Lloyd Wright,
acquistano dai Savoia-Aosta una vasta tenuta in cui impiantano pregiati vigneti. A fianco, Silvia e Rodolfo creano
Canto alla Moraia, coltivando non solo vigne, ma creando un ambiente in cui offrire un’ ospitalità dalle radici antiche, in una realtà che nessuna economia rampante, nel mondo, può rapire alla culla di Roma, dell’Umanesimo,
del Rinascimento. Goethe, nel Viaggio in Italia, aveva già visto e capito qualcosa che sarà poi teorizzato in forma generale da Wright:
rivela al mondo come l’Italia sia il giardino d’Europa, in una perfetta fusione di Natura e cultura, dove il paesaggio e l’architettura
sono “una seconda Natura, indirizzata a fini civili”.

hat you will find in these pages is not a commercial offer, but rather is something that is also yours: it is current,
true and living history. Current, even if it sinks its roots into the centuries, as into the present; true, even if it lives a
magic that only certain place are able to bestow; living, to the point that you, too, will be able to become its actors.
Recent history: Silvia and Rodolfo grew up in the years of the economic boom, but do not “breathe in” only business.
In the 1950s, their fathers built the large building in Prato according to the dictates of Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic
architecture. They bought a very large estate from the Savoia-Aosta family, and planted vineyards on it. Next, they
created Canto alla Moraia, cultivating not only vineyards, but also an environment in which to offer hospitality of
the type with ancient roots, in a reality that no ambitious economy in the world can take away from the cradle of
Rome, of Humanism, and of the Renaissance. In his Italian Journey, Goethe had already seen and understood something that would then
be theorised in a general form by Wright: he revealed to the world that Italy is the garden of Europe, in a perfect fusion of Nature and
culture, where the landscape and the architecture are “a second Nature, aimed at civilian ends”.

of inlaid stones - in the tradition of the Florentine factory of semi-precious stones – with the sinuous charm of the
“Seduta di Archizoom” (1967), which is to be found at the MoMA. In every suite, the warm local stone of the walls,

In addition to the Villa, the Resort also offers its guests an opportunity to spend their holidays in renovated barns that have been furnished in accordance with a particularly Tuscan taste (Ser Alfiero, Maria Rosè, Bacco Felice), the names of which reflect those of the wines

E’ nascosta lungo la verde via che sale verso la piscina e vi si accede, attraverso il giardino, salendo rampe di scale in pietra. Sullo sfondo l’antico
borgo etrusco di Castiglion Fibocchi. Secondo l’originaria architettura
antica, offre una luminosa e spaziosa sala da pranzo (con divano letto) e
soggiorno, con angolo cucina; dolci arcate, come quadri, si affacciano sui
boschetti di roverelle. Al 1° piano troviamo una prima camera con 2 letti
singoli ed una seconda matrimoniale con bagno ed un piccolo balcone
che domina la valle. Qui ci si ritrova nel rosso tramonto toscano a degustare il Bacco Felice,
cercando di scoprirne i segreti... Intorno i fagiani, volando da un ramo all’altro delle querce
amiche, si scambiano i richiami “e si augurano la buona notte”.
It is concealed along the green path that goes up towards the swimming pool, and is entered
across the garden, by climbing ramps of stone steps. In the background is the ancient Etruscan
borgo of Castiglion Fibocchi. In accordance with the original architecture, it offers a luminous
and spacious dining room (including a sofa bed) and living room, with kitchenette; gentle archways, like paintings, face out over the woods of pubescent oak. On the 1st floor we find the
first bedroom, containing 2 single beds, and the second, with a double bed, bath, and a small
balcony that dominates the valley. Here, we meet in the red Tuscan sunset to taste our Bacco
Felice wine, in an attempt to discover its secrets.... Around us, pheasants, flying from one
branch to another of the friendly oak trees, exchange calls and “wish each other good-night”.

vigna, nel rispetto delle sue caratteristiche organolettiche. La sala
di fermentazione è costituita da fermentini in acciaio totalmente
computerizzati per il controllo delle temperature. La barricaia, in
un ambiente termocontrollato, ospita tonneaux e botti toscane
di rovere di prima qualità. Da qui nascono i nostri vini lavorati
secondo la nobile tradizione artigianale.

The Wine Cellar is an authentic gem of rural architecture that rests
on a plateau, and serves to demonstrate how man is capable of indulging Nature while respecting landscape and environmental canons. The systems are realised with the use of modern technologies
for the purpose of working our grapes, which come from the nearby vineyard, with the use of organic-farming methods that respect
their organoleptic characteristics. The fermentation room consists
of small steel fermenting vats that are totally computerised for the
purpose of controlling the temperature. The barrel room, which is
located in thermo-controlled premises, accommodates tonneaux
and Tuscan barrels made of top-quality oak. Thus, our wines originate by having been worked in accordance with the noble artisan
tradition.

Non operiamo nessun trattamento né sulle piante né sull’olio, che ha un bassissimo tasso di acidità perché ottenuto da
olive sane, raccolte dalla pianta

Dalle colline nel cuore del Valdarno, dalle uve maturate al sole di questa
meravigliosa terra si ottengono le vinacce biologiche per la produzione
della grappa. Colore cristallino, profumo intenso e penetrante, gusto
caldo e armonico.Le vinacce da agricoltura biologica sono separate dal
vino dopo la fermentazione alcolica e ancora profumate sono doppiamente distillate per esaltare al meglio i profumi e poi fatte riposare fino
al raggiungimento dei 42°.
We are proud to offer you our
extra-virgin olive oil, which is of
very high quality and is obtained exclusively from the pressing of olives from our own olive
groves, where they are cultivated
using organic farming methods.
We do not apply any treatments,
either to the plants or to the oil,
which has a very low rate of
acidity. This is because our oil
is obtained from healthy olives
that are pressed the same day
that they are picked.
The organic marc that is used for producing grappa is obtained from grapes matured under the sun of this marvellous
land, from the hills in the heart of the
Valdarno. This grappa has a crystalline
colour, intense and penetrating perfume,
and a warm and harmonious taste. The
marc coming from organic farming is separated from the wine after the alcoholic fermentation and, still perfumed,
is doubly distilled in order to exalt the
perfumes in the best way possible. It is
then left to rest until reaching an alcoholic content of 42°.

Solo un’isola felice? No e sì,
il Canto alla Moraia è lontano
dal traffico delle grandi strade e dallo
stress delle grandi città, ma è l’ombelico di
un giacimento culturale e ambientale unico al mondo. Muniamoci di mappa e compasso e descriviamo attorno al
resort un cerchio del raggio di 50 km, meno di un’ora d’auto: ecco
Firenze (raggiungibile anche in treno dalla vicina Montevarchi,
quasi una metropolitana), ecco Fiesole, Siena, Arezzo, Monte San
Savino, Cortona, Pienza, Sansepolcro, Città di Castello, Anghiari;
il santuario francescano della Verna, l’eremo di Camaldoli; ma non
solo: l’outlet di Prada è a 15 Km, quello di Gucci a 30 km. Estendiamo il compasso fino a 80 km: ecco San Marino e San Leo, ecco
Urbino e Gubbio, Perugia, il Lago Trasimeno, le Terme di Bagno
Vignoni e Rapolano, Volterra e San Geminiano; se andiamo poco
oltre, a meno di due ore di auto troviamo Rimini e la Riviera adriatica, Ravenna, Foligno e Spoleto, Pietrasanta, Viareggio, la Versilia e
le Apuane, Pisa; volendo affrontare lo stress dell’autostrada Bologna
non è lontana, e ben raggiungibile è Roma; Milano è a 365 km.
Only a happy island? Yes and
no. Canto alla Moraia is far
from the traffic of the most travelled main roads and from the stress
of the big cities, but it is the umbilical cord
of a cultural and environmental deposit that is
unique in the world. Let’s equip ourselves with a map

Cortona, Pienza, Sansepolcro, Città del Castello, Anghiari; the Franciscan sanctuary of La Verna; the hermitage of Camaldoli. But that
is not all: the Prada outlet is 15 km away, and that of Gucci, 30 km.
We extend the radius up to 80 km, and here are San Marino and San
Leo; here are Urbino and Gubbio, Perugia, Lake Trasimeno, the baths
of Bagno Vignoni and Rapolano, Volterra and San Geminiano. If we
go a bit further, it takes us less than 2 hours by car to reach Rimini
and the Adriatic Riviera, Ravenna, Foligno and Spoleto, Pietrasanta,
Viareggio, Versilia, and the Apuan Alps, and Pisa. If we wish, we
can face the stress of the motorway: Bologna is not far away,
and Rome is a reasonable distance; Milan is 365 km away.
