Florio: an unexpected world
Florio: an unexpected world Florio is an innovator by tradition, revealing an unexpected world, a modern artisan with an intense, unusual and precious soul. Wines of the highest quality to be enjoyed on any occasion. Fortified, passito and sparkling wines to be rediscovered as an aperitif, dessert or meditation wine. Located in the “sun belt”, an area where a delicate relationship must be maintained between the microclimate, vines and land, Florio is a company that has acquired unique experience over the last two centuries thanks to its respect for tradition, attention to detail and innovative vision. A line of products which are clearly closely bound to their land of origin, yet in a modern presentation. A brand which offers strong sensations, thanks to the tales told of the origin of an historic product, of a remarkable family with multiple interests. The tireless search for quality with the selection of the best fruit, careful and innovative production aiming to achieve pro- ducts which offer an intensity of sensations just like the intense lands from which they originate. Lands such as Marsala, the Aeolian Islands and Pantelleria, unique for their grape varieties and products. These unique contexts are dedicated to inimitable products and boast a strategy which by definition aims for excellence. The company philosophy over two centuries has focused on quality in every aspect. The cellars Built in tufo stone by Vincenzo Florio in 1832, the Florio cellars in Marsala reflect the typically anglo-saxon style of that time, with wide arched windows and compressed tufo powder flooring. The central building, covering an area of 44,000 square metres, represents the heart of the production of marsala: in the past, ships of the Florio sailing company set off from here loaded with the precious nectar and it is here today that the world’s most famous marsala wine is produced. The 6,000 square metres of the production cellars host the production processes of the marsala, which is then refined in the historic barrels jealously guarded in the 7,400 square metres of the refining department. These historical buildings surprise the visitor with their beauty: 165 metres in length for each aisle with no less than 104 arches, under which are lines of 1,400 kegs and 600 or so casks and vats of varying sizes. Florio’s winery is a unique space that combines history and tradition with the future. The winery’s modernly designed spaces set the tone for a different approach to tastings, a real experience that goes beyond a simple moment of pleasure. In 2011, the Florio Winery was further enriched by the addition of the Donna Franca Florio tasting room, an innovative space where tradition meets modernity. In 2012, the winery will inaugurate a wine shop on premises. Sweet Sparkling wine – new in 2012 Florio’s versatile world comprised of marsala, fortified wines, and passito wine is now enriched of a special product, Florio Sweet sparkling wine. An aromatic experience with a flourish of mediterranean flavours and citrus nuances, Florio is characterised by a cheerful and elegant image and is produced with the winery’s signature craftsmanship of exclusivity and excellence in winemaking. Moscato grapes from Sicily’s mid-west regions, hand harvested and worked with the Charmat method, produce a lively and fresh wine, an unexpected world the brings together quality and particular care for the product with an elegant, fresh and glamorous style. - Spumante Florio Dolce – Sweet Sparkling Wine - Moscato Passito Wines Florio’s Passito wine range shares a strong heritage with its native lands - a Sicilian wine experience interpreted with a contemporary and innovative flair. Refreshing as an aperitif, ideal to accompany dessert at winery temperature, or slowly sipped for a relaxing moment, the Passito Wine range includes two great products, “Passito di Pantelleria” and “Malvasia delle Lipari”. These two namesake wines evoke the unique characteristics of the sunny, charming islands they hail from, Pantelleria and Salina, and are presented in exclusively designed bottles perfectly suited to hold the precious nectar for those moments worthy of special sip. The transparent packaging has been studied to highlight the extraordinary golden colour of the product, warm hues that echo the Sicilian sun and have contributed to the wines’ success in Italy and abroad. - Passito di Pantelleria – DOP Passito di Pantelleria - Zibibbo - Malvasia delle Lipari - DOP Malvasia delle Lipari - Malvasia delle Lipari e Corinto Nero Fortified Wines Moscato, Zibibbo and Passito wines are an authentic expression of Sicily and its islands, lands historically vocated to the production of great fortified wines. The blazing sun, the warm winds, the location of the vineyards facing the sea but protected by low stone walls, and the generous and fertile soil define the perfect habitat for growing intensely aromatic grapes. These grapes make it possible to produce unmistakably mediterranean wines defined by warm golden and amber colours. Florio’s fortified wines are an unequivocal expression of Sicily, an unforgettable and accessible experience perfect to accompany dessert or for a surprising aperitif. Starting in the 1980s, Florio’s time-honed craftsmanship combined with a profound knowledge of the lands inspired the winery to undertake a path of innovation in winemaking that led to the production of “I Liquorosi” (the Fortified Wines), a label that has gone to enrich the historic selection of marsala and passito wines. - Morsi di Luce - IGP Sicilia - Zibibbo - Ambar - IGP Sicilia - Zibibbo e Moscato Bianco - Oxidia - IGP Sicilia - Zibibbo - Zighidì - IGP Sicilia – Zibibbo - Zibibbo - IGP Sicilia - Zibibbo - Pantelleria - DOP Passito Pantelleria Liquoroso - Zibibbo - Grecale - IGP Sicilia - Moscato di Alessandria e Moscato Bianco Marsala Wine In the last few years, Florio has dedicated itself to relaunching the image of marsala wine. Once loved by consumers, this great expression of the “Made in Italy” tradition has been forgotten for too long, in part due to it being confused for lesser products that don’t do marsala justice. Florio’s Historical Vintages - unique to the winery - take us back through 200 years of this great fortified wine’s history. Florio’s marsala represents an important Sicilian heritage that is also capable of great versatility as an accompaniment to different dishes. This eclectic product can be sipped easily at any point during the day as the ideal moments of consumption are many, though not well known yet.
