Una settimana di corsi, laboratori ed interventi da parte dei più importanti filmmaker ed attori
all'interno di una master class condotta dall'illustre insegnante di recitazione italiana Francesca
De Sapio. Membro dell'Actor's Studio, nel 1985 De Sapio ha fondato, insieme a Joseph
Perruccio, lo Studio Duse, un centro internazionale di recitazione, produzione cinematografica e
teatro. Nel 1987, il Duse si è prima trasferito a Montecatini Terme, in Italia, per poi trovare la
sua sede stabile a Roma.

FRANCESCA DE SAPIO
Nasce a Roma ma inizia la sua carriera negli Stati Uniti d'America, complice il trasferimento del
padre architetto in Texas nel 1965, dove studia per intraprendere il mestiere di attrice.
Le prime esperienze avvengono al Dallas Theatre Center.
Dopo circa un anno si trasferisce a New York dove continua gli studi nel Dramatic Workshop del
famoso "Piscator" (che fu anche la prima scuola di Marlon Brando). Continua la sua esperienza
al "Circle in the Square" dove N. Psacharopoulos la invita a far parte della compagnia del teatro
di Williamstown in Massachusetts.
Entra all'Actors Studio dove segue le lezioni del maestro Lee Strasberg fino ad entrare nel
gruppo di attori più vicini al maestro, nel quale sono presenti grandi attori del calibro di Al
Pacino, De Niro, Shelley Winters.
Nei primi anni ottanta diviene docente all'Actors Studio affiancando la carriera di insegnante a
quella di attrice.
Cinema, Teatro e Televisione la vedono attiva sia negli Stati Uniti che in Italia:
recita a fianco di Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Gérard Depardieu, Giancarlo
Giannini e lavora con registi come Arthur Penn, Francis Ford Coppola, Marco Ferreri.
Nel 1985 fonda a New York con Giuseppe Perruccio il Duse Studio, Centro Internazionale
permanente di formazione e di produzione cinematografica e teatrale, ottenendo subito
l'entusiastico patrocinio di Elia Kazan, Sidney Pollack, Norman Mailer, Nikita Michalkov e molti
altri.
Nel 1987 l'attività del Duse si trasferisce in Italia, prima a Montecatini e poi a Roma.
Oggi il Duse International è un centro di importanza internazionale.

IL METODO:
IL LAVORO SI DIVIDE IN TRE FASI FONDAMENTALI
- Il lavoro su se stessi: la scoperta dei condizionamenti inibitori e delle cattive abitudini posturali,
idee rigide di recitazione o di comportamento, che impediscono la fluidità dell'espressione e la
libertà degli impulsi.
- Il lavoro sul personaggio o carattere.
- Il lavoro su come il personaggio esprime attraverso motivazioni - azioni, la storia, il tema
principale dell'autore e lo stile.
Queste fasi non vengono lavorate separatamente negli anni di studio (minimo tre anni), ma in
una sequenza circolare, durante le sei ore, ogni giorno.
Al mattino viene data enfasi al proprio strumento personale (corpo, cuore, mente) e alla
scoperta e allo scioglimento di nodi espressivi psico-fisici.
Nel pomeriggio l'attenzione va verso lo studio dei testi, le azioni dei personaggi e lo sviluppo del
tema dell'autore, unita alla tecnica esercitata sul corpo la mattina.
Si affrontano così le tre fasi. Come s'incontrano o come si scontrano, ogni giorno.
Alle tecniche di Stanislavsky - Strasberg sono state integrate:
la bioenergetica di Lowen, gli esercizi di Michael Cechov, Feldenkrais,
Sandy Misner e la tecnica Alexander.

A weeklong series of classes, workshops and guest lectures by leading filmmakers and
performing artists, the master class will be under the tutelage of noted Italian acting coach
Francesca De Sapio. A life-member of the Actor's Studio, in 1985 she co-founded with Joseph
Perruccio the Duse Studio an international center for training in acting, film production and
theater in New York. In 1987, Duse moved to Montecatini Terme, Italy, and then to its current
base in Rome.

FRANCESCA DE SAPIO
Born in Rome , she began her career in the United States of America, where she studied to
become an actress.
The first experiences take place at the Dallas Theatre Center .
After about a year she moved to New York where she continued her studies at the Dramatic
Workshop of the famous " Piscator " (which was also the first school of Marlon Brando ) .
She continued her experience at the " Circle in the Square " where N.Psacharopoulos invites
her to join the company of the theater in Williamstown , Massachusetts.
She enters the Actor's Studio , where she attended the classes of the big Lee Strasberg up to
join the group of actors closer to the teacher, in which there were great actors like Al Pacino, De
Niro, Shelley Winters .
In the early eighties she became a professor at the Actors Studio alongside the teaching career
to that of an actress.
Cinema, Theatre and Television see her active in both the United States and in Italy :
She starred with Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel , Gerard Depardieu , Giancarlo
Giannini and worked with such directors as Arthur Penn, Francis Ford Coppola, Marco Ferreri .

THE METHOD
THE COMPOSITION OF THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE FUNDAMENTAL PHASES
OF DEVELOPMENT:
- Work on one's self and individual nature: the discovery of behavioural conditioning; posture
and habits; resistance and rigid ideas regarding the nature of acting and individual behaviour
that impede the freedom and fluidity of expression and impulses.
- Work on character development.
- Work on how the character expresses himself using motivation - actions - activities, toward the
story, the author's theme, and the style.
The above-mentioned phases of the actor's development are not incorporated in a separate and
chronological sequence during the continuance of the workshop (minimum three years), but
intertwined according to the actor's potential and abilities during the six hours of daily
attendance in the workshop.
Morning activities emphasise the personal instrument (body, heart and mind) and the discovery
and release of expressive-physical barriers and inhibitions.
Afternoon activities bridge the actor's morning work with text analysis, character development
and author's intention or concept, thus accentuating the connection of the three phases of
development.
The techniques of Stanislavsky - Strasberg have been integrated: Lowen's bioenergetics, the
exercises of Michael Chekhov, Feldenkrais, Sandy Misner and the Alexander technique.
