Certificazione delle Asserzioni Ambientali di Prodotto “Carbon Footprint study of the life cycle of Planet, a lift by Gruppo Millepiani” This project has been co-funded by the Italian Ministery of the Environment, Land and Sea Emissions are calculated based on 2012 activity data: 48,5% Use (electricity consumption) Production 37,6% 8% 4,9% 0,7% 0,3% (raw materials, semifinished products and transport from suppliers up to the Gruppo Millepiani) Logistics (transport from Gruppo Millepiani to the clients site) Maintenance (electricity consumption, materials, transport of staff) Disposal (transport, recycling, energy recovery, landfill) 930 kg CO2e/year Assembly and on-site installation (Gruppo Millepiani building consumptions, including electricity) WWW.GRUPPOMILLEPIANI.IT (CORRESPONDING TO GHG EMISSIONS GENERATED FROM ABOUT 10 MONTHS OF FOOD SUPPLY FOR A PERSON WITH A BALANCED DIET) Carbon Footprint Greenhouse gas emissions, in terms of CO2equivalents (CO2e), have been quantified for the whole life cycle: from raw materials extraction to the lifts end of life, throughout on-site installation and the use phase (estimated to be 25 years long). Standards used for the Carbon Footprint quantification: • ISO/TS 14067 (Carbon Footprint of Products) • UNI EN ISO 14044 (Life Cycle Assessment). E Planets characteristics: High energy efficiency (the product system under study reaches a Class A) Made of 98% recyclable materials Powered by a high efficiency, gearless, permanent magnet motor Machine roomless The Carbon Footprint has been quantified on the following assumptions (REPRESENTING THE LIFT CONFIGURATION MOSTLY MANUFACTURED AND SOLD BY GRUPPO MILLEPIANI) • CAPACITY: 480 kg - 6 persons • STOPS: 4 (RESIDENTIAL BUILDING WITH 3 FLOORS, EACH SUB-DIVIDED INTO 2 FLATS) • SPEED: 1 m/s • TRAVEL: 9m • cw BALANCE: 50% • after 4 minutes inactivity STAND-BY ENERGY SAVING: Responsibility Measuring a products Carbon Footprint shows transparency and a responsible behaviour towards all stakeholders. Most importantly, it is a useful means to identify potential inefficiencies throughout the products life cycle. It is therefore the starting point to implement initiatives aimed at adopting best practice and improving sustainable consumption, of energy and any other resources. Initiatives identified to improve energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions • LED lighting:already implemented • Shortening of distance with suppliers (zero km):already implemented • Installation of regenerative inverter (on order): 30% reduction of electricity consumption during use phase; 15% reduction of life cycle Carbon Footprint.
