a car with a driver. Fares are calculated on a lump-sum basis depending on distance, route and

Medical assistance for tourists
(
from June 20 to September 7
Medical assistance is ensured from Monday to Sunday from 8.00 to 20.00. A fee of Euro
20,00 for surgery visits and of Euro 30,00 for home visits is charged.
Foreigner healthcare: starting on July 1st, 2004, all residents of EU countries will have direct
access to the healthcare services provided in other member States by simply submitting their
TEAM card (or an equivalent document). The healthcare forms for members of foreign healthcare
organisations (green booklets) are no longer used.
Residents of non EU countries having underwritten specific healthcare agreements with the European Union (Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, former Yugoslavia, etc.) will have to submit to
the local healthcare offices the document issued by their native country.
Please note that without a proper healthcare document (TEAM card or native country document), patients will be charged full current rates, even if they have underwritten a private
healthcare insurance policy.
From 8 pm to 8 am, Tourists staying in lower Val di Sole (from Commezzadura to Cavizzana, Val
di Rabbi) can contact the Malé Surgery: 0463 909405
From 8 pm to 8 am, Tourists staying in upper Val di Sole (from Passo Tonale to Mezzana, Val di

The Marinelli smithy is a rare example of a hydraulic forge in the Alps that is still functioning. The
existence of the forge is witnessed by a few written documents dating back to 1880, when it was
bought by the Marinelli family, but it was built al least two centuries earlier. The forge, along with
other forges and mills, was part of the Pondasio pre-industrial estate, that harnessed the Rabbies
water, ingeniously applying the stream’s hydraulic power to the forge, as a replacement of human
or animal force. The sound effects and the lights in the forge recall Vulcan’s smithy, as vividly depicted by Virgilio: air whistling, flames roaring in the forge, red-hot iron squeaking as it is tempered
in the water, the noise of the metal beaten on the anvil, that all together are a kind of deep, majestic
symphony. The Marinelli forge hosts a millennium-old heritage of technical know-how and human
experience and can be regarded as one of the depositories of the secrets of Cyclops and of the
illustrious Rhaetian blacksmiths.

Forte Strino is situated along the Tonale road, between Passo Tonale and Vermiglio. Built in 1862,
it was part of the region’s fortification system that was developed by the Austrian General Staff
soon after Italy’s independence wars, when Trentino became the southern border region of the
Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Fort, that played a forefront role during the First World War, just as
the nearby village of Vermiglio, has been recentely brought to light again by patient of digging
work and an almost archaeological restoration. Today, nearly 80 years after the events in which it
was involved, the Fort has been turned into a historic museum of the “White War”.

Free climbing on natural rock walls
MALÉ
“C.Costanzi” Wall: a 5 minute walk to the area called Regazzini, this wall has 40 routes of various
levels of difficulty, ranging from 4 to 7c grades (most routes are between 6a and 7a grades).
The routes are spiked and perfectly maintained.
Two small sectors, one on rock and the other on artificial panels, are devoted to children and
youngsters who want to climb for fun.
FOLGARIDA
“Doss of Saint Brigida” Wall: a 20 minute walk from to area known as Belvedere, in Folgarida.
The wall has 12 routes, whose levels of difficulty range from 4 and 6c (most routes are not very
difficult).
All routes are spiked and perfectly maintained.
OSSANA
“Sass Pisador” wall: small wall accessible from the village of Ossana, driving on the dirt road
road that takes to Val Piana, where you can park. In 15 min, walk, following the path to Val Piana
Alm you’ll reach the wall. It offers only 4 trails showing a difficulty between a 4th and 6th level,
spiked discretly.
PASSO DEL TONALE
“Paradiso” Wall: This climbing wall is situated right at the arrival station of the Paradiso cable-car,
coming from Passo Tonale. There are 15 safely-spiked routes of various levels of difficulty, ranging
from 4 and 6c grades.

Ponte Vecchio “Ai Crozi di Cisa” wall: it’s situated in Val De la Mare at about 9 km from Cogolo
village. Drive to the junction of Ponte Vecchio Alm and then walk about 15 min. At the present
time the trails for climbing are about ten, from the 4th to the 6th level difficulty (some itineraries
show a length till 4 rope pulls). Furthermore, 3 short itineraries of 15 minutes with a difficulty
corresponding to a 6b-7a-8a level are available.

What is Nordic Walking
Nordic walking is a new healthy and easy sport, practiced outdoor alone or with others. It brings
together the benefits of sport and pure fun and relax. Right for this reason, it is spreading worldwide.
It is perhaps best described as cross-country skiing without the skis (or the snow!). Just like
walking, it is an activity that is suitable for all. In fact, the use of poles involves 85% of the muscles
but reduces the load on the knees and other joints and cuts down of 30% the physical effort
while improving of 46% and 40% respectively the expenditure of energy and the fat-burning
process compared to the traditional jogging.
Nordic walking is the ideal activity for those who likes to practice some sport, to keep fit, to loose
weight, at any age.

The two parks feature 21 itineraries distributed between Val di Pejo and Val di Rabbi.
They cross the Stelvio National Park and are divided by difficulty levels and natural environment.
A total of 130 km, 68 km in Val di Peio (4 black itineraries, 2 red and 4 blue) and 62 km in Val di Rabbi
(3 black itineraries, 6 red and 2 blue).
VAL DI SOLE ROUTE
The Val di Sole Route is a 22 km nordic walking trail that starts in the town of Cavizzana and goes
all the way to Mezzana with additional 4 km trails in each of the ten towns. The trail winds its way
through ancient paths, roads and trails that were once used by mules. Located on the orographic
right side of the Noce river it is immersed amongst the wood and it passes through historically
fascinating areas and extraordinary landscapes.
The Val di Sole route therefore has a total of 60 km of trails.
It is worth mentioning the historical and cultural Trail at Terzolas, that starting from the main square,
where you will find the Palazzo della “Torraccia”, (a noble residence of the late Renaissance period) it continues onwards to the Cappuccini Convent and then onto the Rocca of Samoclevo.
At the beginning of each municipal trail you will find a board indicating the exact location and a
description of the correct movements used for Nordic Walking.
The trails differ from each other according to length, elevation gain and the degree of difficulty. All
the trails are however suitable for anyone.

Mountain bike
CYCLE TRACK
Val di Sole cycling track mainly runs along the course of the Noce river, following the track of
former country roads, by-roads and river bank lanes. The track is m 2,5 wide and paved with
small impregnated gravel.
The cycle path could be run:
• from Mostizzolo to Dimaro, then it follows a short stretch of main road;
• from Dimaro to Mestriago, it follows a short stretch of main road to Piano;
• from Piano to Mezzana, it follows a short stretch of main road to the Sport Centre of Mezzana
• from Mezzana / Sport Centre to Cogolo through the villages of Pellizzano, Cusiano, Ossana.
The whole track is 33 Km. long.

Val di Sole offers various possibilities of mountain biking routes, ranging from the easy ones, to
the moderately difficult, to end with those recommended for experienced mountain-bikers only.

Eurorafting is an association that was established in 1999, whose objective is to create a centre
that is able to offer sports services and others, which are able to satisfy the many tourism requests
in Val di Sole. The Centre is located in the higher part of the valley, in Cusiano, and this enables us
to easily provide service to the major tourism resorts (Marilleva, Tonale, Peio, Madonna di Campiglio, Ponte di Legno, Passo del Tonale). The Centre is located amongst a natural 7000m² area,
in which a small lake has been created and a solarium zone. In addition, there is also a covered
area (200m²) and a bar with all the relative services. Comfortable and large changing rooms, in
which it is possible for those that return from our activities, to refresh themselves with a lovely
warm shower. Our guests also have the possibility to use, free of charge, all the surrounding area

PATHS AND LOCAL WALKS
Val di Sole has traditionally been endowed with a network of paths that are kept up by Società
Alpinisti Tridentini (SAT) and by local authorities. There is a great variety of hiking routes from 700
m. high on the bottom of the valley to nearly 4,000 m high on the highest peaks.
SAT paths are waymarked by red and white stripes and arrows painted on stones all along
the track and showing the number of the path, that is always made up of three figures.
We remind you that you need to be properly equipped with hiking boots, anorak, warm clothes,
especially when you climb at a high altitude. Remember that the weather conditions can change
rapidly when you’re in the mountains, and that at high altitudes it sometimes snows even in the
summer. Also, remember to take some provisions with you, as well as a topographic map and
a compass.
Local walks - these are comparatively flat tracks in the woods at low altitudes - they are marked
either with letters on white and yellow signs or with wooden markings.
Maps of local walks and tracks are on sale in the Valley’s stationery shops.

The Peio Wildlife area is a tiny green paradise along the road going from Peio Fonti to Peio Paese.
The area is haunted by deer and roe-deer confidently coming out from the woods to get near
passers-by. Visitors will have an opportunity to observe up close the relationships amongst wild
animals, thus getting in close contact with the wildlife and becoming truly part of an enchanting
territory rich in natural resources. In order to satisfy visitors’ expectations, the so-called “Deer
house” has been provided with a modern info point and a quaint visitor centre..

THE PARK FOR EVERYBODY
Two charming routes also for disabled persons in Val di Rabbi and Val di Peio.
The wood and sawmill pathway: visit an old Venetian water-driven saw-mill and listen to the
roaring Ragaiolo waterfall along a pathway where you will get to know better the Park wildlife in
all of its aspects.

NATURALISTIC EVENINGS
Some evenings on naturalistic subjects are proposed from July1st to Septembert 3rd every Tuesday in Rabbi, every Wednesday in Cogolo di Peio and every Saturday (one in Peio-one in Rabbi)
by the Park Visitor Centres. Opening time- 21.00 - free admission.

The Stelvio National Park covers an area of 130,600 hectares of Alpine territory, shared by the
Provinces of Bolzano (Val Venosta), Trento (Val di Sole) and the Lombardy Region (Valtellina and
Valcamonica). It is the largest Park in the Alps and a major European one. Below the snow-clad
peaks and perpetual glaciers, the landscape in the Park’s valleys is characterized by conifer forests
and pastures.
The National Park was set up in order to preserve, to benefit future generations, the geological
structure and wildlife of this Alpine region, as well as to protect the art, culture and history of its
inhabitants. The Park promotes scientific research, and encourages touristic and cultural visits.
Since 1977, Stelvio National Park has been linked to Swiss National Park of Engadina. The two Parks
together are a unique multi-national large protected area.
The Stelvio National Park Visitor Centres of Cogolo and Rabbi organise hikes in the wilderness for
groups of 15 people or more guided by the “Park Guides”.

DENDROCHRONOLOGIC AFTERNOON
An expert dendrochronologist will demonstrate how to establish the age of a tree and will explain the links between the width of a tree’s rings and the climatologic search; with specialized
equipment, the thickness of rings is measured establishing the climatic condition on the Alps
during the last millennium.
From June 24 to September 2 every Sunday afternoon (16.00-19.00) and from July 19 to August

SAENT WATERFALL TOUR in Val di Rabbi
Stablasolo (1539 m) - Stablet - Stablasolo
Path no. 106 - 2 hrs - m 250 vertical drop - easy, pleasant ramble
After leaving your car at the car park situated in the Stablasolo area, start out towards Malga
Stablasolo, a good site for animal observation. Follow the unpaved road until Malga Stablet, then
take the path climbing towards Saent.Before getting to the Saent plane, by the pic-nic area, turn
towards the waterfall path and follow it all the way down past the lower waterfall and back to
Malga Stablasolo.
TOUR OF THE MONTE SOLE MALGAS (SUMMER PASTURE SHELTERS) - Val Cercena in Rabbi
Fontanon - Malga Monte Sole - Malga Fassa - Fontanon
Easy walking tour - 4 hrs - m 500 vertical drop
Leave your car at the car park at Fontanon, then walk straight on for about 500 metres up to the
bridge over the Ragaiolo torrent. Cross the bridge and turn right onto the link road that will take
you to the Monte Sole Malga road. Following the latter, you will get to the lower Malga Monte
Sole (Bassa) in about 30 minutes.

The road continues in the woods up to the lower borders of the higher Malga (Alta) pastures.
The Malga is situated at 2,050 m height, right at the limit of the vegetation growth. Turn left and
walk on for about 1 kilometer on level ground to reach Malga Fassa. To return, take the forest road
down to the main road of Val Cercena, that will take you back to the Fontanon car park in about
15 minutes.
COVEL LAKE TOUR in Val di Peio

From Peio Paese, follow the unpaved road up to the area known as Mezzoli. Continue until you
reach the provincial road, that will shortly take you to the Malga Frattasecca pic-nic area. From
here, follow the military road up to the Cadini waterfall. Continue walking eastwards to Val Taviela,
up to the Covel little valley. The Covel Lake is an important biotope, especially protected because
of its palustrine plantlife. A path goes down from the lake to the Predafessa masi (typical mountain farms), then borders woods and pastures down to the village (Peio Paese).

Path no. 124 - 5 hrs - easy walking tour
The tour follows the track of an old military road built during the First World War. From the car park
near Malga Frattasecca, climb up the mule track winding through fir-tree, larch tree and cembran
pine woods up to the area called Pian della Vegaia, 1,900 m high.
The route continues on level ground, across rio Vegaia to Malga Giumella, at the far end of Pra Palù.
Go down from Malga Giumella to the Fontanino of Cellentino (water spring), below the Pian Palù
dam, then follow the paved road running along the torrent Noce back to Malga Frattasecca.
Adamello Brenta Natural Park

The Adamello-Brenta Natural Park was set up in 1967, and covers an area of 620,5 sq kilometres, extending from the Trentine portion of the Adamello-Presanella Range to the West, to the whole Brenta
Range to the East. The Park’s animal population is mostly made up of chamois, deers, roe-deers,
marmots, squirrels, foxes, eagles, caper caillis, black grouses, as well as of the last specimens of the
renowned Alpine bear. Some steinbocks were re-introduced in 1995. The Park boasts a varied plant
life as well : from the typical edelweiss to the martagon lily or the scented nigritelle ...

Get to Tovel
All Wednesdays from 18 June to 10 September - a one-day hike to the discovery of Val di
Tovel, with its charming lake and interesting Visitor Centre. The start is in Tione, on a shuttle bus
with stops at Pinzolo/Madonna di Campiglio/Folgarida and Dimaro. Participants will spend the
whole day with a Park expert. After lunch, the descent to the bottom of the valley will wind along
an enchanting pathway that goes through the moon-like landscape of an area called Glare.

mountain rock route with the discrete and skilled support of an Alpine guide, that will teach you
how to climb in complete safety
EVENING NATURALISTIC LECTURES
Evening naturalistic lectures are part of a program that the Park has been offering to the Park
villages for some years with growing success. Experienced and skilled lecturers will speak about
landscape, geology, plant and animal life, as well as legends, traditions and cultural background
of people living in the Park.

HIGH ALTITUDE HIKES
These itineraries have been prepared for those who wish to walk on glaciers and climb up the
highest peaks following the natural mountain ridges. There are a wide variety of itineraries and suitable also to those who are not really acquainted with the specific equipment used in this type of
activity: axe and crampons. Your guide will explain how to use the equipment correctly and will
provide full environmental and historical information, so that you will want to try this experience
again and recall it as a pleasing souvenir.
