THE DEATH OF FATHER FRANS VAN DER LUGT
This morning, Father Frans Van der Lugt was abducted by masked gunmen from our residence at Homs, in Syria, where he
used to live, and was executed by gun shots. Fr. Frans was born in the Netherlands in 1938, entered the Society of Jesus in
1958 and was ordained a priest in 1971. He worked in Syria since 1960. Despite the dangers, he had voluntarily decided to
remain in the city of Homs in solidarity with the people who could not leave the city. He remains in our thoughts and
prayers.
LA MORTE DEL P. FRANS VAN DER LUGT
Questa mattina, il Padre Frans Van der Lugt è stato prelevato da uomini armati e mascherati dalla nostra residenza di Homs, in
Siria, dove viveva, ed è stato ucciso a colpi di arma da fuoco. Olandese di origine, il Padre era nato nel 1938, entrato nella
Compagnia di Gesù nel 1958 e ordinato sacerdote nel 1971. Era in Siria dal 1960. Nonostante i pericoli, aveva
spontaneamente deciso di rimanere nella città di Homs in solidarietà con le persone che non avevano potuto lasciare la città.
Teniamolo presente nel nostro ricordo e nella nostra preghiera.
LA MUERTE DEL P. FRANS VAN DER LUGT
Hoy por la mañana, varios hombres armados y con el rostro cubierto, han sacado de nuestra residencia de Homs (Siria) al
Padre Frans Van der Lugt y lo han matado con armas de fuego. Holandés de origen, el P. Frans había nacido en 1938, entró
en la Compañía en 1958 y fue ordenado sacerdote en 1971. Se encontraba en Siria desde el año 1960. A pesar del peligro,
había decidido espontáneamente permanecer en la ciudad de Homs como expresión de su solidaridad con las personas que no
habían podido dejar la ciudad. Tengámoslo presente en nuestro recuerdo y oración.

Ce matin, le Père Frans van der Lugt a été enlevé par des hommes armés et masqués dans notre résidence de Homs, en Syrie,
où il vivait, et tué à coups d'arme à feu. D'origine hollandaise, le Père est né en 1938, entré dans la Compagnie de Jésus en
1958 et ordonné prêtre en 1971. Il se trouvait en Syrie depuis 1960. Malgré les dangers, il avait spontanément décidé de
rester à Homs en solidarité avec les personnes qui n'avaient pu quitter la ville. Gardons-le présent en notre souvenir et notre
prière.
