(01.02.2016 – WIC) The agreement was signed between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Taye Atsekesilasse and Eastern Africa Standby Force Director Ambassador Chanfi Issmail. After the signing of the agreement, Spokesperson for 2 Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tewolde Mulugeta told journalists that Ethiopia has been working tirelessly for the establishment of the standby force. The host agreement signed between the two parties will support the enhancement of collective security in the region and international peace, he added. According to him, Ethiopia has been contributing a lot in the highly volatile region. It has been involved in many peace keeping tasks and missions. The agreement to hos t EASF is part of this lofty mission, the spokesperson pointed out. (01.02.2016 –WIC) Planning and Supervision Head with the Insti tution, Mekonen Hailu, told WIC that the institution has released 91 new agricultural technologies and scientific recommendations for beneficiaries in the first half of this budget year. 5 Mekonen noted that the institute mainly releases best cro p varieties, improved agricultural practices and scientific recommendations, and efforts are exerted to increase the supply of agricultural technologies. The Institute undertakes promotion and expansion of new agricultural technologies by participating the beneficiaries in order to enable them appropriately utilize the new technologies, Mekonen indicated. About 48, 298 farmers have participated in the technology promotion program during the stated period, he added. Furthermore, capacity building trainings were given for 8,901 farmers that are beneficiaries of the agricultural technology, Mekonen said. The institute had planned to train 15, 982 farmers across the country during the period. The institution has provided a loan for residents of Addis Abba engaged in different types of economic activities, Miraf noted. Particularly small and micro enterprises involved in service, trade and manufacturing sectors have taken the largest amount of the loan, she added.
