1. Summer School Venue
The V edition of the Summer School in “Applied Economics – Programming in MatLab” (SEEC
2007) will be held at the Department of Economics and Quantitative Methods of the University of
Lecce from 23rd (first lesson starting at 9am) to 27th July 2007 (last lesson ending at 4pm). The
Department of Economics is located at the Ecotekne Campus, approx. 6 km south-west from the
city centre (direction Monteroni).
2. How to reach Lecce
2.1 By plane
Brindisi airport is the nearest airport to Lecce (35 Km). Daily flights connect Brindisi to the
international airports of Rome (by Alitalia -www.alitalia.it) and Milan (by Alitalia www.alitalia.it, by Air-One - www.air-one.it or MyAir - low cost company - www.myair.com).
Brindisi is also connected to the international airports of London Stansted (by Ryanair
www.ryanair.com, low cost company), Zurigo (by Helvetic – http://www.helvetic.com/ ).
Brindisi is also connected to many other International locations as Brussels, Vienna, Zurich,

People arriving at Brindisi Airport (tel. +39 0831 418963) can reach Lecce using the SITA public
shuttle bus connecting the Airport to Lecce. The detailed timetable of the SITA Airport shuttle
bus is provided below. One journey ticket costs about 4.50 €. Tickets for the shuttle bus are
available from the Coffee Bar at Brindisi Airport. No on-board ticketing is provided by the bus
driver. Tickets can be bought from several travel agencies and shops in Lecce: Travel Agent
ELIOS TOURS; Travel Agent MAZZINI; Travel Agent Santamaria; Bar Commercio.
The SITA shuttle bus stop at Brindisi Airport is located immediately on the right of the Airport
main exit. Shuttle bus stops in Lecce are indicated in the Map of Lecce below.

€ and it takes about 30-35 min.

2.2 By train
Lecce is at the end of the main Adriatic line and is therefore well connected. There are numerous
Eurostar (the fastest train), Intercity and regional/express trains from the main cities in the north
and centre/south (Roma, Milano, Bologna, Torino, Trieste etc..). Regional/express services
connect Lecce with all the other cities in Puglia. For exact times, prices and booking you can go

2.3 By car
To reach Lecce by car from Rome is necessary to follow A1 highway, direction Naples, and then
follow A 16 or A 14, direction Bari. Meanwhile, to reach Lecce by car from Milano is necessary
to follow A 14 highway, direction Bari. Then to reach Lecce from Bari, for both routes, is
necessary to follow main road 379, direction Lecce.

3. How to reach the Ecotekne Campus
3.1 By car
In the highway A 16 (Brindisi–Lecce), very close to Lecce, turn right following Tangenziale Ovest
indication. After about 2 km you will pass a tunnel; soon after, turn right following the
Monteroni-Arnesano direction and then the Università/Ecotekne indication; then you will reach
easily the main entrance of the Ecotekne Campus (see map below).
3.2 By bus
The Campus can be reached from Lecce by bus: STP or SGM (no.27) - for bus stops see the map
above - or by taxi (average fare 15.00 €, travel time approx. 20-30 min depending on traffic
conditions).
No on-board ticketing for ATP bus; on-boarding ticket for SGM bus. The tickets can be bought
from the newsagent in the Ecotekne campus.

4. Accommodation
All participants will stay at the Hotel President (four stars), and not at the accommodations in
the Ecotekne campus. You have to pay NO additional costs for this change.
The Hotel President is located in the modern city centre, in Via Salandra, 6.

From Monday 23 July 2007 to Friday 27 July 2007, we have organized a free bus service at the
following times:
in the morning at 8:15 from Hotel President to Ecotekne campus;
in the afternoon at 16:30 from Ecotekne campus to Hotel President.
To reach Ecotekne campus you can also use the public bus service number 27 (closest stop: viale
Felice Cavallotti; the single ticket costs 80 eurocents, alternatively you can buy a multiple ticket –
corresponding to 6 singles – for 4 euros; closest ticket seller: BAR SAN PAOLO Via
F.Cavallotti 1/g; (see map and timetable below).

5. Meals
A coffee break will be provided every day. All participants have access to the University canteen
to have their lunch (See the map above: box 2) at the price of 5 RUROS.
6. Summer School Registration
A registration desk will be opened on Monday 23rd July from 8.00 am to 9.00 am in the I2 room
(see Map of the Ecotekne Campus). All the participants will receive all the relevant
documentation and teaching material for the attendance of the school.
7. Summer School Closing Dinner
A Summer School Closing Dinner will be held on the evening of Thursday 26th July at the
“Circolo Tennis”, Piazzetta Arco di Trionfo, Lecce (see map below), starting at 8:00 p.m. Each
participant is required to show his badge. A contribution of EURO 25 is required.
