VINO 2O10
After a very successful first edition in 2009,
The Italian Trade Commission-ICE, in
cooperation with the Regional Governments of
Apulia, Calabria, Tuscany and Veneto is pleased
to bring back VINO, the annual industry
convention of Italian wine in America.
Organized under the auspices of the Italian
Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of
Agricultural Policies and with the participation
of Buonitalia and Vinitaly, the event is scheduled
for February 2-6, 2010 in New York City.
VINO 2010-Italian Wine Week in New York,
will kick off with a three day conference at the
Waldorf Astoria Hotel in midtown Manhattan,
culminating in a grand wine tasting involving
hundreds of vintners form Italy and all major
U.S. importers of Italian wines.
All events taking place during VINO 2010,
will be open exclusively to wine and food
professionals, including wine importers,
wholesalers, distributors, educators and
journalists nationwide. During this week long
symposium the organizers will host a series of
educational seminars and grand tastings with the
attendance of renowned wine experts,
presenting the wines of over 300 Italian wine
producers from all regions of Italy.
Some of the country’s most knowledgeable
wine industry leaders will be involved in
moderating seminars, tastings and discussions
covering a wide range of topics. These include
such well known names as: Alfonso Cevola,
Anthony Dias Blue, Anthony Giglio, Bill
Nesto,Bobby Stuckey,Charles Scicolone, David
Glancy, David Rosengarten, Karen MacNeil,
Michael Apstein, Michael Weiss, Piero
Selvaggio, Ray Isle, Ronn Wiegand and others.
Partnering in the event will also be a good
number of Italy’s regional agricultural
promotion organizations. Among these, of
paramount importance, to the success of the
event, is the support garnered by the presence of
producers’ delegations from the regions of
Apulia, Calabria, Toscana and Veneto, as well as
a contingent of 50 of the leading US importers of
Italian Wines who will be showcasing their
Italian portfolios.
VINO2010 will try to build upon what was
already started during the 2009 edition and bring
into play many new synergies between Italian
wine organizations and vintners that have joined
efforts with the Italian Trade Commission-ICE
this year. In addition to the participation by the
regional wine promotional organizations,
BUONITALIA and Vinitaly lead the way of
other sponsorships, which include important
consortia of producers such as those of Chianti
Classico, Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene
Superiore, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino
Nobile di Montepulciano. Working with these
partners and others, the Italian Trade
Commission-ICE has designed a program for
2010 that strives to bring together different
interests within the Italian wine business and
overall raise greater awareness for Italy’s range
of wines and their true marketing potential. The
event, national in scope, will strive to serve US
wine buyers by introducing them to an
interesting mix of Italy’s best produces and by
previewing new wines early on in the year, even
before some of them are commercially released
and presented at Vinitaly, Italy’s most important
and time tested wine exposition.
Also participating in VINO 2010 will be the
presence of other regional promotional
organizations, including the marketing arms of
PromoSiena (Tuscany); the Chambers of
Commerce of Udine(Friuli Venezia Giulia) and
Nuoro(Sardinia); as well as AS.CO.VI.LO and
PROMOS, the promotional organizations that
will be presenting the Pinot Nero varietal wines
from Lombardy’s famed Oltrepò Pavese district.
Highlights of VINO 2010 will certainly be the
three days of meetings and seminars outlined in
the program that follows, including, the “Italian
Wine Masters” grand tasting on February 4th at
the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and the “Italian Wine
Exchange” grand tasting, to be held the
following day at the Hilton New York. This last
event alone, will feature over 300 vintners from
Italy, and just by itself, will constitute the
greatest Italian wine tasting event ever staged
outside of Italy.
Other things interest within the program
include:
Press conferences;
Interesting themed discussion panels;
“Meet & Greet” events for new producers;
Retail store promotions at key New York City
locations;
Receptions, dinners and more…
