Double Zero Napoletana Winemaker Dinner Castello di Verduno
Double Zero Napoletana Winemaker Dinner Castello di Verduno November 11, 2015 Wednesday, November 11th I'll host winemaker Mario Andrion of Castello di Verduno at restaurant Double Zero Napoletana in Sandy Springs as he guides us through a seated dinner paired with a range of his wines. We'll also be joined by Marcella Bianco daughter of the owners of the property. Castello di Verduno is in the much enviable position of owning vineyards in both Barolo and Barbaresco. We'll taste a beautiful array of wines to include a rare white wine made from a red grape, a red wine unique to the Verduno township of Barolo made from the Pelaverga grape, one of the best single vineyard Barberas I know of - the "Bricco del Cuculo", a 2008 Barbaresco from the "Faset" cru, and the winery's flagship wine the 2008 Barolo Riserva from "Monvigliero", one of the most highly regarded crus in all of Barolo. Castello di Verduno is one of my favorite producers of Barolo and Barbaresco. Staunch traditionalists employing long fermentations/vatting and only large Slavonian oak casks. The purity and inherent character of each terroir shine through in the wines with great clarity. And 2008 was a beautiful vintage for the Piedmont making wines with Burgundian like complexity and perfect balance. Following is the menu, wines to be poured and retail pricing.
