and the brick and marble flat tiles which characterise the floors and ceilings, some of which are adorned with splendid
Roman cross vaults.
A typical loft made with decisively modern materials such as laser cut crystal, the underfloor heating, cutting-edge
architecture and design furniture are combined in perfect harmony with arches, visible brickwork and little brick vaults to
emphasize the peculiarities of such a unique example of Italian real estate.
The layout of the interior area is organised around the central open space on the ground floor: a large living area that
accommodates both dining room and TV corner from which a glimpse can be caught of a high tech aluminium kitchen
and from which both the external decorative garden and the laundry room can be accessed.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
LOCATION
This is the southernmost municipality of the Chianti region where the hilly and wooded landscape blend into that of the
Crete Senesi. The village of Castelnuovo is located in the upper valley of the river Ombrone and forms part of the Chianti
wine area.
Its construction took place in 1366 by the Sienese Republic in order to protect itself from enemies from the north and it
was given its name, Castelnuovo, to distinguish it from the most ancient fortifications in the area, while Berardenga
comes from the noble Berardo or Bernardo, a native of France, who had jurisdiction over the area as representative of the
Emperor Louis the Pious (865).
The name by baptism, constantly repeated by the heirs, gave its name to the area which they called Contea Berardenga.
But in 1382, while the Senesi laborers were adding the finishing touches to the walls, Castelnuovo was attacked by the
Florentines, led by Sir John Hawkwood, a leader who will go down in history with the Italianised name of Giovanni
Acuto and who would be represented more than half a century later by Paolo Uccello in the great fresco of the Cathedral
of Florence.
Hawkwood, having occupied and looted Castelnuovo, only withdrew when he had received a ransom of 50,000 gold
florins. In 1478, the village held off a new siege of eternal rivals, but surrendered again in 1489 as a result of the betrayal
of Count Francesco Landi.
Back in the hands of the Sienese, the town was strengthened with a second enclosure of walls which included seven
watch and defence towers. Occupied in 1554 by imperial troops, the following year, with the fall of Siena, the village
finally entered into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
