A city that has an illustrious tradition, represented by the two hundred year old Teatro Verdi. This association has been the principal point of reference to the Town Council of Padua in the organization of one of the most important cultural events of the opera season. The goal of the International Competition "Iris Adami Corradetti" is to promote the art of Italian operatic singing. This recognition encourages us in presenting a Masterclass and Auditions for singers. To welcome and accompany these young artists on a short but intense journey. Developing their own particular talents along a career path that is both demanding and rewarding. Regulations of the Masterclass ART. 1 The “Circolo della Lirica di Padova” and “Associazione Artes” has organized the VI Masterclass for singers, assistant directors and accompanists. August 28th 2016 : auditions for the admission August 28th – September 4th 2016: lessons and final concerts ART. 2 Open to all nationalities, no age limit. Languages: Italian-English-French-German-Spanish ART. 3 Auditions Auditions for the participating student's choice, will be held on August 28 th at Palazzo Zacco-Armeni (Padova, Prato della Valle. Italy). Audition times will be announced on August 21 th 2016. Each singer presents 2 arias of their choosing. ART. 4 The course is designed to provide opportunities to young artists, to work together with two internationally acclaimed artists, M˚ Stefano Vizioli (director) and M˚ Althoff Pugliese, teacher of vocal technique and interpretation. The course activities include: singing techniques, stage techniques as well as study and interpretation of the scores. The initiative is aimed at voice, theatre. interpretative studies and the realization of the final concert, Rigoletto. Stage direction by S. Vizioli and musical direction by Alessandra Althoff Pugliese. ART. 5 REPERTOIRE FOR SINGERS Each singer presents arias of their own choosing (*It is necessary that one of these arias have references to the family) and the scenes from this list: From “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi: Duetto "Figlia, mio padre" up to "già da tre lune” Duetto “Tutte le feste al tempio” and the Finale Quartetto from “Un dì si ben rammentomi”- “Bella figlia dell'amore” Aria Caro nome Aria Questa o quella Aria Cortigiani vil razza By way of example, here are a few arias with familiar references: Puccini – Gianni Schicchi “O mio babbino caro” soprano, Bellini - Norma “Dormono entrambi… teneri figli” soprano, Cherubini – Medea “De tuoi figli la madre” soprano, Verdi – Un ballo in maschera - “Morrò, ma prima in grazia” soprano, Verdi – Trovatore - "condotta nell'era in ceppi" mezzosoprano, Verdi – La Traviata "di Provenza il mare, il suol" baritono, Mascagni – Cavalleria rusticana - “Voi lo sapete o mamma” mezzosoprano, Rossini – La Cenerentola - Sia qualunque delle figlie” e “miei rampolli femminini” basso buffo ecc.... ART. 6 REPERTOIRE FOR DIRECTORS The course for stage directors includes the presentation of a project by each candidate. The presentation must be accompanied by a sketch of the set design together with the stage concept envisioned by the candidate which will be used as study material during the course. Each participant will be given the opportunity, at the discretion of the course direction, to work on a duet or on an aria with the singers participating in the voice class, compatible with the combined schedules of the respective classes. All students of the stage direction course are obliged to attend all classes held by Maestro Vizioli when working together with the participants of the voice classes. ART.7 ACCOMPANISTS The accompanists will be given the opportunity, at the discretion of the individual teachers, to work side by side with the two teachers during the course and the preparation of the final concert. ART.11 COURSE FEE The registration will be completed on-site on the first day of the course by paying the tuition fee. *Course fee for singers active students: 340 € *Course fee for directors active students: 240 € *Course fee for accompanists: 140 € *Course fee for listeners: 50 € ART. 12 The organization reserves the right to cancel the Masterclass in the event of an insufficient number of participants (15 active students) or due to causes beyond the organization's control. Applicants will be refunded the entry fee of 100 euros (less the transfer charges or money order). ART. 13 There is no reimbursement for travel expenses and / or stay for the entire duration of the workshop. The organizers will provide information on suitable accommodation. ART. 14 Filming or broadcasting video or audio of the final concert does not entail a right to compensation for the participants. The recordings will be the exclusive property of the organization for any promotional purposes. ART. 15 OPPORTUNITIES Every student will receive a certificate of participation. At the discretion of the organization and of the teachers the best participants will be invited to participate in one or more concerts in the 2016-2017 season: Circolo della Lirica di Padova and Associazione Artes Padova. The organization provides participants: - n. 1 EUR 440.00 scholarship for the be awarded to one of the participants (singer) who takes part to the masterclass. ART. 16 FINAL PROVISIONS The registration and participation in the Masterclass implies full acceptance of these rules. The organization reserves the right to change the regulation, taking care to give a timely notice to the parties concerned.The organization accepts no liability for any damage to persons or property that might occur during the course of the final concert and the masterclass. He has created, among other things, new productions for the Teatro alla Scala, the Rome Opera, the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the Teatro Comunale of Florence, the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro Massimo of Palermo, Parma Verdi Festval. Abroad, he was invited by the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Colon in BuenosAires, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Festival of St. Louis, the Santa Fe Opera, the Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon, Opéra Royal de Wallonieof Liege, the Théâtre Municipal in Lausanne, Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, Wexford Festival, thorégies of Orange, Society of Sainkt Gallen… It 'been invited as a Visiting Professor at the University of Music in Cincinnatiand Indiana University of Music in Bloomington. Stefano Vizioli is also graduated in piano with top honors at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples. Alessandra Althoff Pugliese- teacher of vocal technique and interpretation Born in Dayton, Ohio, Alessandra Althoff completed her undergraduate studies in piano, composition, and voice in the USA. She began her professional career as pianist and organist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on tour playing in all the major capitols of Europe. In Italy she earned her Master’s Degree in piano and musicology at the Villa Schifanoia and her voice degree at the Conservatory L. Cherubini in Florence, continuing her voice studies with Gina Cigna at the Accademia of La Scala in Milan, with Pierre Bernac at the Accademia M. Ravel of St. Jean de Luz, with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Iris Adami Corradetti at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. She made her operatic debut at the Festival Opera Barga as Suzel in Mascagni’s l’Amico Fritz and as the protagonist in La Voix Humaine by Poulenc. Subsequently she became a regular guest artist of major Italian theaters such as the Teatro La Scala in Milan, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Teatro Comunale in Florence and in Bologna, the Teatro Politeama in Palerma, the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari as well as of the international festivals such as La Biennale di Venezia, the Wolftrap Summer Festival in Washington D.C., il Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, the Festival d’Automne in Paris, the Settimane Senesi, the Mahler Wochen in Toblach, the Fondazione Gulbenkian in Lisbon, the Madiera Festival, the Fruehlingsfest of the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Seattle Opera Festival, etc. She has recorded for CGD, Bongiovanni, and Fonit Cetra as well as for the major European radio and television stations. She founded and directed the courses “Music in the Humanities” at the Gonzaga University in Florence and at the John Hopkins University in Bologna and has held Master Classes in vocal technique and interpretation at the Accademia Mantovana of Katia Ricciarelli, at the Accademia Villa Ca’ Zenobio in Treviso, at the Accademia Lirica in Padova and Monselice, at Miami University (USA), at the Palm Beach Opera, at the Frankfurt Oper, at OperaVerona, and at the Sommerakademie Universitaet Mozarteum Salzburg since 2001. In 1992, with her husband, the musicologist and music critic, Prof. Giuseppe Pugliese, she founded the Richard Wagner Association in Venice, which she currently presides, organizing the annual Giornate Wagneriane, the Concerts at Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, the visits and conferences at the Richard Wagner Museum, as well as coordinating the activities of the Centro Europeo di Studi e Ricerche Richard Wagner and its archives in the Richard Wagner Museum in Venice. In 2006 she organized the International Competition for Wagner Voices Venezia in collaboration with the Teatro La Fenice, and she is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Richard Wagner Societies in charge of the IGW Voice Competition. Fluent in Italian, French, German, and English, she freguently accompanies her students on the piano in lessons and concerts in Italy and abroad.
