"Places for re-encounters - recycling the space.”
The theme of this year's Architecture Biennale in Venice "People meet in architecture," was
accompanied by a compatible Montenegrin exhibition whose slogan was "Places for re-encounters recycling the space.”
The exhibition and its accompanying elements are comprised of three works which were
winners of various international competitions held in Montenegro over the past two years.
The first work is a tender solution for the University complex at the site of the abandoned
refrigerator factory production facilities "Obod" in Cetinje, by Andjelka Badnjar, BSArch. The second is
the project of revaluation of the area located in the vicinity of hydroelectric dam “Piva” in Mratinje to be
used for tourist purposes. The authors of this solution are Krunoslav Ivanisin and Lulzim Kabashi.
Tender solution for sports and recreation area on the site of a former tailings pond along the
river Tara in Mojkovac by Assistant Professor Rifat Alihodzic, Ph.D. Arch, and associates Elvira
Alihodzic-Muzurovic, MA Arch, Ema Alihodzic, BSArch and Tatjana Radevic, student of architecture,
completes the offered concept.
Analysis of themes and results of architectural competitions in Montenegro (in the last two
years) has shown that the proposed three works, regardless of the diversity of tasks and interests of
investors, have one common thread that unites the views of their authors: forming, from an existing
negative context, a quality of architectural space as a place for re-encounters, work, recreation and
entertainment.
What makes coherent all three works is the fact that it is not about building new facilities in
order to create spatial conditions for certain functions.
In all three cases, it is a recycling of the existing, inactive, neglected and architecturally speaking
"negative" functional space.
We came to the conclusion that all three authors had the same goal: to inject adequate
functions in order to revive dilapidated halls of "Obod" industries in Cetinje, benumbed area around
the impressive hydro-dam "Piva" and the contaminated area around the river Tara - "Tear of Europe" in
the heart of the urban core of Mojkovac.
The very act of turning a negative into a positive space is often seen by human spirit as a
greater pleasure than that of building a beautiful new space from the ground level, because the effect
is doubly important, as in the previous case.
Selected solutions that form the Montenegrin exhibition at the Venice Biennale are there
because they possess the elements of a double effect: they remove the negative aspect and offer a
new quality of living space in the same location.
There are no architectural, urban or natural places which exist separately, on their own. For any
human being, there is only an existential space, as Christian Norberg-Schulz would say. People can
meet in such space only. But it must be such that people wish for their meetings to happen right there.
We hope that these three existential spaces, once realized, will become places where people
meet with joy.

"I luoghi per rincontrarsi-spazio da riciclare"
Sul tema della Biennale dell’architettura di quest’anno a Venezia “Le persone si incontrano
dentro l’architettura” la mostra montenegrina risponde con un concetto omogeneo il cui slogan è "I
luoghi per rincontrarsi-spazio da riciclare".
La mostra è composta di tre opere che hanno vinto dei premi ai diversi concorsi internazionali
realizzati in Montenegro negli ultimi due anni.
Si tratta di un’opera realizzata per il concorso per un complesso universitario al posto dei
capannoni produttivi della fabbrica di frigoriferi “Obod” a Cetinje, dell’autrice Andjelka Badnjar,
dott.arch. Il secondo è il progetto di bonifica dello spazio circostante la diga della centrale idroelettrica
“Piva” a Mratinje per l’uso turistico. Gli autori sono Krunoslav Ivanišin e Lulzim Kabashi.
Il progetto per il concorso per l’Area sportiva e ricreativa sul sito della vecchia miniera vicino al
fiume Tara a Mojkovac, dell’autore Rifat Alihopdžić, dott.arch, e le collaboratrici Elvira AlihodžićMuzurović, dott.arch, Ema Alihodžić, dott.arch e Tatjana Radević, studentessa di architettura.
L’analisi dei temi e dei risultati dei concorsi di architettura in Montenegro (negli ultimi due anni)
ha dimostrato che le tre opere proposte, a prescindere dalla diversità dei loro compiti e degli interessi
degli investitori, hanno un filo in comune che unisce l’attitudine degli autori: la creazione, da un
contesto negativo, di uno spazio archittetonico di qualità, in cui rincontrarsi, lavorarci, uno spazio per
la ricreazione e divertimento.
Quello che rende coerenti tutte e tre le opere è anche il fatto che non si tratti della costruzione
di nuove strutture con l’obiettivo di creare gli spazi con determinate funzioni.
In tutti e tre i casi si tratta del riciclaggio dello spazio inattivo, trascurato, con la funzionalità “negativa”,
detto con il linguaggio architettonico.
Il fatto di convertire lo spazio negativo nello spazio positivo, da allo spirito umano molto più
piacere che la costruzione daccapo di un bel spazio perché nel primo caso l’effetto è molto più
significativo.
I progetti per la mostra della Biennale di Venezia sono stati scelti proprio perché contengono gli
elementi di questo duplice effetto: rimuovono il negativo e offrono una qualità nuova dello spazio allo
stesso posto.
Gli spazzi architettonici, urbanistici e naturali non sono separabili. Per l’uomo esiste solo lo
spazio esistenziale come ha detto Christian Norberg Schultz. Solo in esso gli uomini possono
incontrarsi. Ma lo spazio deve essere fatto in maniera tale che gli uomini desiderano incontrarvisi.
Speriamo che questi tre spazi esistenziali, una volta realizzati, diventeranno spazi dove
persone si incontreranno con gioia.
