TNPHC conducted a 2 day Orientation Programme
for new recruits and deputationists on
December 7 - 8, 2007 at Alumni Centre,
Anna University, Chennai. Lectures were given on
materials, engineering detailing, behaviour of
structures, construction practices and distress in
buildings by eminent engineers and academicians.
The top officials of the TNPHC explained the
company profile, activities, management and
various processes. Sixty seven participants benefited
from these lectures and interaction with the
speakers. This is the second such training
programme conducted during this year.

CONCERN FOR ENVIRONMENT
The TNPHC lays strong emphasis on environment in
the premises where it undertakes construction.
Avenue tree saplings are planted at an interval of
30ft. at most places. Landscaping is undertaken
and encouraged at all places where feasible.
Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) structures are put up to
improve the local ground water table. Care is also
taken to dispose the sewage as per norms. In TSP
battalion quarters at Sathyamurthy Nagar, Avadi,
a full fledged sewage treatment system of two lakh
litres capacity per day was installed in September
2005.
The performance of the system has been
satisfactory and the treated water is being used to
maintain a garden and a fish pond. These measures
help to enrich the local environment. The sludge is
converted into manure.
The TNPHC has also been using Steel / Aluminium
windows in coastal areas, PVC doors in toilets, R.C.C.
door frames, MDF door shutters and Aluminium
partitions with a view to preserving environment.

TNPHC had appealed (bulletin issue no.2) to user
departments to give due attention to maintenance of
quarters and police buildings handed over to them.
Well maintained quarters and premises provide a
healthy atmosphere and lengthen the life span of
buildings.
We are pleased to display photographs of well
maintained Railway Police quarters at Pothanur in
Coimbatore district handed over in April 2004.

QUARTERLY MEETING HELD ON 26.11.07
The last quarterly meeting with DGP and Senior Police
Officers was held on 26.11.07 at the police officers
mess, Chennai.
The issues discussed related to
bottlenecks in commencing construction of some
police stations , Coastal Security Group schemes,
major projects like additional block for DGP's office,
COP's office and Police Academy , maintenance and
special repairs to police buildings.
It was decided to construct police stations at Karur
and Thiruvannamalai as per type design of urban
police station instead of rural police station. For police
stations at Ice House and Royapettah, where the
land is insufficient , it was decided to examine vertical
expansion.
The suggestion of the CMD/TNPHC to entrust the
maintenance of all lifts functioning in police buildings
in Chennai to a single agency was agreed to by the
DGP (L&O) and COP / Chennai. It was decided to seek
more funds for special repairs.
