Asking and paying for drinks
a)
Place your order. Asking for something is simple. You need the key words for a - un uno
una or un’ - plus per favore – please.
Here’s how you might order a cappuccino:

Practise prices. Unlike the old lira, the word for euro stays the same in Italian even when
there are two or more. € 2,10 is due euro (e) dieci centesimi. You may also hear a

Now play the part of the waiter. Using the menu, give the customers their drinks and tell
them what to pay.

In small restaurants there is often no printed menu, so you have to understand the names
of the food – and the prices. Play your part in this dialogue. You’ll need these phrases:
